Toulouse–Blagnac Airport in southern France has been evacuated for security reasons, reports on social media suggest. Even passengers on board planes reportedly had to disembark.
Toulouse–Blagnac Airport has been reportedly closed since 6:45 a.m. local time (0545 GMT).
Police patrols and military have been deployed in the airport, France Bleu newspaper reported. “A group of CRS (Republican Security Companies) [troops] have arrived to secure the tracks and around the airport. They are conducting patrols, with identity checks and vehicle searches,” Frederic Roze from Haute Garonne prefecture, told the paper.
According to France 3 Regions TV channel, a suspicious package was the reason for the evacuation.

I was at the Toulouse airport when this happened. We were on a plane that had already disengaged from the dock and was preparing for takeoff when I noticed a couple of military type personal running under the nose. At that point the dock was reengaged and we were asked to vacate the plane and go back through security. Once inside, police and other authorities ushered all the passengers out of the terminal and onto the road. It was then I realized that the whole airport was being evacuated and not just us.
We milled about outside for a couple hours. Lots of speculation but no one informed us what was happening. Eventually, everyone was allowed back inside and we all went through security again. They were much more vigilant the second time. I got a full pat down, even after going through the backscatter machine.
I heard later that it was a suspicious suitcase and not a breach of security that was the cause of the lockdown. At the time it felt like the whole event was being "staged", coming so soon after the bombing in Brussels. Like we were being primed for interruptions like these, to accept it as the new normal.
If their agenda is to stop people from wanting to travel, it's working. There was a point while I was standing on the airport sidewalk when I almost decided to get in my car and drive home.
