Cold wave over Europe

Seems like the Big Cold won't come this year in Norway after all - the last 2 weeks we've had temperatures over 0 degrees C several times, and this is highly unusual this time of year. Today it was almost 10 degrees with snow melting like it usually does 3 months later. Weird.

Yes, I saw that as well. :)

Link to article about unusual amounts of snow :

It's in norwegian, but it says that 12-15 meters of snow amassed during a few days and covered a cottage that laid there snow free the weekend before. The snow goes many meters over the roof of the cottage, as the pictures show. The owner has never seen this much snow amass in that short a time. Where I live we now have as much snow as any year, but not more than average so far.

It says it was 1,5 meters in a short time, then a storm lasting 2 days. Some places the snow was then as deep as 12-15 meters.

[Edit] Spelling

In the south-east of Norway where we live, it`s been a long and cold winter with a lot of snow. A few days above 0 c. I think we better get on moving soon.

We are not quite sure yet, but my wife is looking at eco-villages in Spain right now. I think that could be a good option since many of them already have a philosophy of community working to getter and a local food production. And Spanish is said to be the easiest language to learn for a Norwegian :)

It's was 3 degrees C most of the this morning up till mid day here in NW England. Rain and some sleet. I believe there was a little snow around 7.00 a.m. on high ground.

Unfortunately I was unable to find this article in English, it's in German but still I think it's worth of posting. It is about cold in parts of Scandinavia, localy recordbreaking.

What's most alarming is reported death of 3 skiers in Norway!
The cold's wave has also demanded the first deaths. In Sirdal in SW Norway three missing skiers were found frozen. The authorities suppose that they have been surprised with a ski wandering by the extreme cold and do not exclude that there are even other victims.

That must be a realy nasty stuff to surprise 3 Norwegian skiers I mean what kind of weather could take 3 Norway skiers by surprise??? They shurely didn't go skiing in shorts!

And 2-3 days ago while driving I've heard on news of even more Russian ships stranded in thick ice somwhere in St. Petersburg region then last January in Sea of Okhotsk in about same time as this Skandinavian cold wave. Unfortunately, I was unable to find this story on web.

The 3 deceased were tourists from different countries, and were advised against making the trip because of the weather. They were found just 200 meters from a cabin.

Did they start from the cabin or was the cabin destination? I mean if they went from shelter they shurely didn't reach far! Were they lost due blizzard or fog?

They were German and used to skiing in Norway, had been here many times before. They started from one cabin in spite of the weather forecast warning against strong winds and down to 50 effective degrees below celsius, this because of the wind. When they met someone they were advised against continuing and then turned around back to where they came from. They missed the cabin they came from because of the wind and snow, and were found separated from each other about 800 m from the cabin they started from.

Those skiiers mentioned earlier died primarily because they didn't take heed of the conditions, meaning; You don't forget Your gloves when its -20C outside!
