Thank you JEEP for the wealth of information ! (I also will re-read it)
One question i do have. If this techology is so dandy and everything, why are (the few) pilots who dare to speak up, so worried about incidences with jabbed pilots who may suddenly die in flight (at start or landing). If this fully automatic (at any time) fly-by-wire technology is so safe… i mean.
For what my opinion may be worth, “Fly by wire” technology and integration of it into pilotless commercial Airlines is a made up fairytale.
Promoted by Hollywood and fiction writers.
I could be wrong, tho’, as my opinion and my views are “only” based on my observations and lived experiences in the aviation industry, as well as my relationship ( my beloved husband of 30+ years marriage) who has been piloting aircraft, single prop, double prop, and several classifications of jets, for over 40 years.
I also am acquainted with several avionic engineer types, and we have several friends who have spent their careers twisting wrench’s and keeping aircraft maintained.
@XPan, you answered your own question, really, with your wondering why the “few pilots” that are speaking up are so worried.
These illusionary “Autopilot” systems can’t and won’t substitute for problem solving, thinking out of the box human intellectual interactions in real time, during a real emergency.
Additionally, there are many airplane types out there… and I don’t know how many of them have the same features installed for cases when the SHTF ?
There sure are a lot of airplane types, and the features that are installed, for when SHTF, in the majority of them, those features are called “Pilots”.
The first procedure, in most cases, when there is an emergency warning, or even a trouble light, in the flight deck, is to disengage the auto pilot.
These human Pilot people train, memorize and PRACTICE intensely, and it’s mainly all for emergencies.
After an airline pilot turns 40, standard procedure is testing and simulator retraining every 6 months.
And believe you me, it’s rigorous and intense.
3 fails in the simulator, during a regular retest, and a pilot loses their license.
Oh, and yes of course i am aware of the tech being used, in cases like 9/11 and in the Germanwings crash case etc. but i was more refering to daily life practices, in which pilots still fly manually during start and landing (but fully automatic near and during crusing altitude)
Transpacific and Atlantic flights are usually the ones portrayed in movies, with the autopilot on and shenanigans a plenty.
Far enough, that’s commonly believed by the public, but, that’s mostly movie entertainment, not reality.
During flying, the lower stratosphere, where those really big jets fly, is relatively less turbulent than the lower troposphere, which is where the unpredictable weather anomaly’s often happen, and where all the smaller planes and commercial jets fly, and can only be handled by pilots.
Crashing and burning a plane remotely via satellite space beams or directed energy interference is a lot easier done, than, say, MANUALLY landing on the Hudson River, both engines out, with a plane full of passengers and all walking away. If you haven’t seen the movie “Sully”, it’s a good one.
Ok, so after that rant, here’s what I think is happening, with the “few” pilots that are speaking out, and are afraid.
First, let me say, commercial airline pilots are EXTENSIVELY trained to handle an incapacitated partner/pilot.
There are certain straps on their seat safety harnesses, that will literally pull an unconscious person back upright into the seat, totally away from being able to inadvertently touch anything, can’t reach any controls.
Trussed up and out of the way.
Protocols are by rote memorization, check lists and procedures are so automatic, these people train HARD, because they have to be ready for anything.
They aren’t afraid they will have to pilot the plane alone, that the incapacitated dying pilot will do anything, they are afraid for themselves, they are realizing the truth, for themselves and everyone else who’s been jabbed!
The pilots that I know, are exhibiting extreme cognitive dissonance, they realize they have been lied to, now they are threatened to keep their mouths shut, they have been betrayed by their own Unions, they are mostly in “ignore it, ignore it, ignore it” mode.
Pilots are so invested in their careers, they have trusted the Medical association, heck, they are by law regulated to obey the medical dictates, to keep their careers, and now....they are afraid.
At least, that’s how I see it.
