Crazy Storm Weather and Lightning - Global

Adler is a resort town on the northern coast of the Black Sea, part of the Krasnodar Territory of Russia.

Adler shuddered from a lightning strike of unprecedented force

On the night of Friday, October 10, a record powerful lightning was recorded over Adler, the discharge force of which was 376 kiloamps. /.../. It was followed by a series of flashes, mostly 100-200 kA," the report says.

At the same time, the average strength of ordinary lightning usually does not exceed 20-30 kiloamps. Thus, the main discharge in Adler turned out to be ten times more powerful than the standard values. This is not an isolated case for this resort, where similar atmospheric anomalies with high current have already been recorded.

Although such powerful discharges are rare phenomena, their probability cannot be completely excluded. The most favorable conditions for their occurrence are mountainous terrain and high humidity. For this reason, it is recommended to stay indoors during thunderstorms, avoid hiding under free-standing trees, and stay away from bodies of water.

The power increases.

Meteorologists in Sochi recorded a record-breaking lightning strike that was 24 times more powerful than usual
In Sochi, the current of a lightning strike reached a record-breaking 483 kiloamps
.

A lightning strike that was 24 times more powerful than usual was recorded in Sochi on the night of Thursday, November 13.
Eyewitnesses report that the sound of this lightning was different from regular thunder. It sounded like the operation of air defense systems.

Powerful discharges have been recorded in Sochi before. A month earlier, lightning reached a strength of 376 kiloamps. In September of this year, a discharge of 215 kiloamps was recorded. A year ago, a series of discharges up to 335 kiloamps was observed near Sirius. All of these figures were lower than the November record.

An increases even more:

Compared to what came next, on December 30, Adler lightning looks like a baby.

"In the Tuapse area, lightning with a record strength of 613 kA was recorded, which is almost 31 times higher than normal values. In the direction of Sochi, a series of super-powerful discharges of 200–400 kA were observed, indicating increased thunderstorm activity."
Tuapse is located on the eastern coast of the Black Sea, about 80km NW of Sochi.

The picture is credited to @stormchaser_rus, not available for me, and I couldn't find any media report that would confirm that. All I managed to find is that there was indeed (in Ru) thunder storm in Tuapse area in the evening of Dec 30.

Meanwhile, France recorded 26 million lightning strikes in Haute-Corse, with over 2,600,000 via intra-cloud and 350,000 cloud-to-ground strikes in 2025. ⚡🌩️

⚡️ Lightning statistics for France in 2025: 2.6 million lightning strikes, Haute-Corse the most lightning-affected department, with up to 899 lightning strikes per minute on June 13th...
➡️ Find all the data here: La foudre en France en 2025 : bilan complet - KERAUNOS Observatoire Français des Tornades et des Orages Violents

During the year 2025, nearly 2,600,000 lightning strikes were recorded, including:
  • approximately 2,250,000 inter- or intracloud lightning flashes (86% of total electrical activity),
  • approximately 350,000 lightning strikes .
The year was marked by a very sharp peak in electrical activity during the month of June . The months of May, July and August, for their part, showed moderate and generally comparable electrical activity.

The graphs below show on the one hand the number of lightning strikes observed daily in France, and on the other hand the distribution of lightning strikes according to their polarity and power.

High lightning strike rates in the southeast of the country

The maps below show, on the one hand, the lightning density per 10 km² observed in 2025, and on the other hand, the lightning strike density per 10 km². This second map therefore only counts the points of lightning strikes with the ground , while the first map shows the total electrical activity (intracloud lightning + intercloud lightning + cloud-to-ground lightning).

It is noted that the majority of electrical activity in 2025 was observed in the south and east of the country , and more sporadically from Normandy to Hauts-de-France . Conversely, the central regions, as well as the Channel coast and Brittany, were little exposed to electrical activity during that year.

It is also interesting to note that the rates of lightning strikes in the strict sense were significantly higher near the Mediterranean, in the lower Rhône Valley and in Corsica, which indicates atmospheric conditions more conducive to cloud-to-ground discharges in these regions in 2025. The Mont Blanc massif, in the municipality of Chamonix (Haute-Savoie) also showed, due to its geographical configuration, a high rate of lightning strikes.

Towns, departments and days most affected by lightning strikes this year

In the 2025 assessment, Rusio , in Haute-Corse, tops the list of French municipalities with the highest concentration of lightning strikes. Haute-Corse, in fact, holds all three top spots for municipalities most affected by lightning, and logically positions itself as the most electrically active French department in 2025.

The three most electrically active days of 2025 were observed within a ten-day period, on June 13, 15 and 25. These three days alone recorded 420,000 lightning strikes , representing 16% of the annual electrical activity.

Note that the national peak of electrical activity was observed on June 13 at 19:44 UTC (21:44 local time), with 899 lightning strikes detected in France in 1 minute , or nearly 15 lightning strikes per second .

538 kA: an exceptionally powerful lightning strike on June 13

The strongest lightning strike of 2025 hit the town of Monbalen , in the Lot-et-Garonne department, on June 13th . This lightning strike occurred at 10:46 PM with an estimated intensity of 538 kA .

An intensity of this magnitude is remarkable and places this lightning strike in the category of "superbolts " . It is indeed rare to reach such intensities; in fact, only 0.003% of lightning strikes in France had an intensity > 400 kA during the year 2025.

From Texas To Florida (And In Between): These States Are The Lightning Kings
Lightning activity surged to an eight-year high by the end of 2025, with new regional hot spots emerging as the new “lightning capitals.”

Lightning is one of nature’s most relentless forces, flashing more than 2 billion times worldwide every year. More than just a dramatic light show, it’s a key signal of what’s happening inside the atmosphere, revealing patterns tied to severe weather, climate variability and shifting storm behavior.

Which is why we took an extra close look at the 2025 end of year lightning report, and you should too.

Based on data from the National Lightning Detection Network, the latest report from Vaisala Xweather paints a striking picture of just how active the past year was across the United States (plus where storms packed the biggest electrical punch).

Just look at the graph, very interesting! And you know what happened in May 2025? This:

June 28th, 2025

(Nienna) What was the “bird" above the sun pictured on May 24th by the LASCO telescope?

A: Expulsion of mass from sun's core due to temporary opening of channel.

Q: (L) Would that have anything to do with any of the current cosmic energies?

A: Yes

Q:
(L) Should we expect other odd behaviors or phenomena in relation to the sun?

A: Definitely.

Q: (L) Okay.

Background: Scientists from the Solar Astronomy Laboratory at the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IKI RAS) recorded a mysterious optical object above the Sun using the LASCO telescope. This image was captured on May 24, 2025, at 10:00 AM Moscow time.
[*] Appearance: The object resembles a bird or a flying craft with a cometary trail extending behind it.
[*] Size: The wingspan of this “bird" is approximately 150,000 kilometers, more than 10 times the size of Earth.
[*] Altitude above the Sun: About 2 million kilometers from the Sun's surface.
[*] Data source: The image was taken using one of the LASCO telescopes installed on board the SOHO solar observatory. The structure is absent in both the preceding and following images (approximately 10 minutes before and after).
