The Phlegraean Fields (Italian: Campi Flegrei [ˈkampi fleˈɡrɛi]; Neapolitan: Campe Flegree, from Greek φλέγω phlego, "to burn")[2][citation needed] is a large supervolcano situated to the west of Naples, Italy. It was declared a regional park in 2003. The area of the caldera consists of 24 craters and volcanic edifices; most of them lie under water. Hydrothermal activity can be observed at Lucrino, Agnano and the town of Pozzuoli. There are also effusive gaseous manifestations in the Solfatara crater, the mythological home of the Roman god of fire, Vulcan. This area is monitored by the Vesuvius Observatory.[3]

The Roman god of fire, Vulcan, is found as as a trace in the word volcano. The Wiki on Vulcan mentions:

The ancient Romans seem to have worshipped fire like the ancient Iranians.

When one studies the dates of the major eruptions, as seen below, it is tempting to look at the history of Europe and see what happened.
From the Wiki on Campi Flegrei there is:

Three geological phases or periods are recognised and distinguished.[4]

• The First Phlegraean Period. It is thought that the eruption of the Archiflegreo volcano occurred about 39,280 ± 110 years (older estimate ~37,000 years) ago, erupting about 200 km3 (48 cu mi) of magma (500 km3 (120 cu mi) bulk volume)[5] to produce the Campanian Ignimbrite eruption.[6] Its Volcanic Explosivity Index (VEI) was 7. "The dating of the Campanian Ignimbrite Eruption (CI) to ~37,000 calendar years B.P. draws attention to the coincidence of this volcanic catastrophe and the suite of coeval, Late Pleistocene biocultural changes that occurred within and outside the Mediterranean region. • The Second Phlegraean Period, between 35,000–10,500 years ago.[4] This is characterized by the Neapolitan yellow tuff that is the remains of an immense underwater volcano, with a diameter of c. 15 kilometres (9.3 mi); Pozzuoli is at its center. Approximately 12,000 years ago the last major eruption occurred, forming a smaller caldera inside the main caldera, with its centre where the town of Pozzuoli lies today.
• The Third Phlegraean Period, between 8,000 – 500 years ago.[4] This is characterized by white pozzolana, the material that forms the majority of volcanos in the Fields. Broadly speaking, it can be said there was an initial activity to the southwest in the zone of Bacoli and Baiae (10,000–8,000 years ago); an intermediate activity in an area centred between Pozzuoli, Spaccata Mountain and Agnano (8,000–3,900 years ago); and a more recent activity towards the west, which formed Lake Avernus and Monte Nuovo (New Mountain) (3,800–500 years ago).

The Romans used some of the materials from the volcano as ingredients in their "cement".

One may ask what triggered the eruption about 40,000 years ago. I recall seeing that Firestone et al. proposed there was a major comet at the time.

Interesting comment about the lack of M7 earthquakes from forecaster Ditrianum on his most recent Youtube video - some notes i made from the 4 minute video are below, those of particular interest are in blue:

- Even with 'critical' planetary alignments earthquake activity is low, and if we look at the last 12 months of M7 quakes we should have had 12-15, 18 if earth is more active, but we only count 7, and most of them occurred last year, if we look at the last 6 months we've only had 2 which is really below average. It's been the trend since 2017, every year we've had about 6 months without an M7. Before 2017 we have to go back to 2004 to find such a gap between M7 quakes
- Because of this trend, we don't really know what's going on with the condition of the earth, or with the quake situation
- The borderline 6 quakes last week were due to the lunar geometry (except for Vanuatu)
- Next alignment June 1st which is Sun-Mars-Saturn
- Next 3 weeks of geometry is critical - 2nd or 3rd week particularly (although due to the nature of the situation, it's hard to predict). "A few weeks ago we explained in a video that the positions of the outer planets are causing increasingly higher lunar peaks (LG). These peaks will be at their height in the first three weeks of June. The combination with planetary peaks (PG) in the first two weeks make that time-frame quite critical with a high probability of increased seismic activity."
