Earthquakes around the world

I felt a 2 sec tremble some 30mins ago and it took 25 mins for RSOE/EDIS report to be seen. My Mom called me up, 2 mins after it happened, and asked: "Have you just felt a tremble?" ...
And its weird... it says it happened in 0 depth? Less than a kilometar or on surface?

7.4 magnitude earthquake rocked New Zealand

A 7.4-magnitude earthquake has struck north-east of New Zealand, with thousands of residents woken by terrifying shaking.

The quake hit at sea at a depth of about 33 kilometres (20 miles), south of the Kermadec Islands, at just after 1am local time on Friday.

A warning of hazardous tsunami waves within 300km (186 miles) of the epicentre was issued within minutes. However, the alert was later downgraded with no tsunami threat for New Zealand or Australia.
Many took to social media to share their concern. Linda Coulston wrote on Facebook: 'Was long and strong in Gisborne. We live on beach and don’t normally feel them but that one shook us around.'

Not a strong one but make you wonder.

A 4.5-magnitude earthquake struck Oklahoma at a shallow depth of about 8km, the United States Geological Survey (USGS) reported. It came shortly after US President Donald Trump’s campaign rally in Tulsa.
The USGS initially reported it as a 4.2-magnitude quake, but later upgraded it to 4.5.
The USGS says that only a small fraction of the quakes could be linked to the highly controversial process, stating that “the largest earthquake known to be induced by hydraulic fracturing in Oklahoma” in 2019 was just a 3.6-magnitude quake.

While Saturday evening’s quake did not likely faze Oklahomans, who experience similar events on a more or less regular basis, the US president’s detractors on Twitter seized the opportunity to suggest that it was mother nature’s response to the first MAGA rally in three months.

A powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.4 struck southern Mexico's Pacific coast on Tuesday, killing at least two people, buckling paved roads, and cutting off isolated villages.

Buildings hundreds of miles away in Mexico City shook strongly and people ran out into the streets when an early warning seismic alarm sounded. Videos on social media showed water that apparently came from rooftop pools cascading down residential buildings.

The quake triggered a small tsunami on the Oaxaca coast but there were no immediate signs of casualties. The country's seismological service said the sea level rose 60 centimeters (2 feet) at Huatulco beach, normally a popular destination for U.S. and Canadian tourists but quieter now due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Miguel Candelaria, 30, was working at his computer in his family home in the Oaxaca town of Juchitan when the ground began to tremble. He ran outside with relatives, but they had to stop in the middle of the street as the pavement buckled and rocked.

"We couldn't walk... the street was like chewing gum," said Candelaria, 30.

Quakes of magnitudes over 7 are major earthquakes capable of widespread, heavy damage. A 7.1 magnitude earthquake that struck central Mexico in 2017 killed 355 people in the capital and the surrounding states.

MEXICO CITY SHAKES

Helicopters flew low over the Roma and Condesa districts of Mexico City on Tuesday, looking for damage in streets where many buildings still show the scars of the 2017 quake.

The city's mayor said there were two people injured but no major damage from the quake, which hit as millions of people were at home in lockdown due to the coronavirus.

The U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration had warned that the Pacific coasts of Mexico and Central and South America faced a possible tsunami but later said the danger had passed.

The U.S. Geological Survey said the epicenter of Tuesday's quake was located 69 km (43 miles) northeast of the town of Pochutla.

It was very shallow, only 26 km (16 miles) below the earth's surface, which would have amplified the shaking.
