A very shallow magnitude 5.4 earthquake was reported early afternoon. According to USGS the earthquake shook West Texas 40km of Toyah (pop 98) . The quake occurred on Wednesday, November 16 at 03:32 local time at a very shallow depth of 5.5 miles (8.8 km) It marks the third largest earthquake in Texas history.

The strongest occurred in August 1931 when a magnitude 6.0 earthquake struck the West Texas city of Valentine. The second largest was a magnitude 5.8 earthquake in West Texas in April 1995, according to the University of Texas at Austin.
