WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT DECEMBER 23_2023

Moderate levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24h. A preliminary M6.0 earthquake was recorded in Vilyuchinsk, Russia which was revised to M5.7 the quake should not have caused any significant damage.

In the Caribbean islands region, an M5.4 earthquake occurred 387 km northeast of Anguilla Island, no damage was reported. For analyst Jesús Ramos, the M5.3 earthquake that occurred in the Dominican Republic on the 22nd and this M5.4 earthquake near the Anguilla Islands today indicate that energy is being concentrated in the Caribbean plate. This takes pressure off the Cocos plate so seismic activity in Mexico will remain at moderate levels of M4+ and M5+

On the other hand, the earthquakes that have occurred in the Sandwich Islands and south of South Africa in the Indian Ocean indicate that the pressure in the Nazca plate is being adequately released, so we could expect for the region of Chile and Argentina a M5+ earthquake in the worst case up to M6.3, while in the region of Peru moderate M5+ activity is also expected, but not for the regions of Ecuador, Colombia, Panama, Costa Rica & Nicaragua where so far no significant earthquake has occurred. So for the latter, a M5.5+ or in the worst case up to M6.8 earthquake is expected.

Aftershocks continue in the region of the Philippine Islands, although with less frequency, two moderate M5+ earthquakes were recorded.

The total number of earthquakes recorded in the last 24 has decreased to 807 which is within the normal range of activity.

According to Volcano earthquake report the volcanoes with shallow (less than 50 km) earthquakes within 20 km radius during the past 24 hours were:
Apaneca Range (1 quake mag 1.8), Bardarbunga (3 quakes between mag 0.3-1.0), Brennisteinsfjöll (24 quakes between mag 0.1-1.8), Clear Lake (26 quakes between mag 0.3-1.9), Don Joao de Castro Bank (1 quake mag 2.1), El Chichón (1 quake mag 3.4) Fagradalsfjall (27 quakes between mag 0.1-1.5), Gagak (1 quake mag 3.2), Gran Canaria (1 quake mag 1.0), Irazu (1 quake mag 2.4), Kalatungan (1 quake mag 2.1), Katla (6 quakes between mag 0.6-1.4), Kilauea (2 quakes between mag 2.0-2.4), Krísuvík (4 quakes between mag 0.9-1.8), Loihi (1 quake mag 2.1), Marapi (1 quake mag 3.0), Maunaloa (2 quakes between mag 1.9-2.1), Methana (1 quake mag 1.5), Reykjanes (14 quakes between mag 0.2-1.2), Ruapehu (2 quakes between mag 0.6-1.4), San Salvador (1 quake mag 1.9), São Jorge (1 quake mag 1.7), Tambora (1 quake mag 4.3), Taupo (1 quake mag 1.6), Tjörnes Fracture Zone (2 quakes between mag 1.4-2.1) (updated 22h50)

Minor seismic activty strikes the UNR_Campus

Hundreds of people reported feeling minor earthquakes of similar intensity on Hawaii's Big Island and on the Olympic Peninsula northwest of Seattle, but no damage was reported.

The earthquakes Saturday afternoon in Hawaii and Sunday morning in Washington state were over 2,600 miles (4,200 kilometers) apart and apparently unrelated.

A magnitude 4.1 quake struck around 4:30 p.m. Saturday nine miles (14 kilometers) southwest of Volcano off the southeastern coast of the island of Hawaii.

The quake was too small to generate a tsunami, according to the National Weather Service U.S. Tsunami Warning System.

However, dozens reported feeling it through the U.S. Geological Survey. The quake was in the area of Kilauea, a volcano that erupted for several weeks before quieting in September.

Shortly after 7 a.m. Sunday, dozens more people in the Puget Sound area reported feeling a magnitude 4.0 quake centered on the northeastern Olympic Peninsula 25 miles (40 kilometers) northwest of Seattle.

A magnitude 4.0 quake is strong enough to wake people and rattle cars and dishes but will not cause damage, according to the Geological Survey.

WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT DECEMBER 25_2023

SILENT NIGHT. Low levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24h. As if the planet gave us a pause to celebrate Christmas, only a deep M5.0 earthquake occurred southeast of Shima Japan and several light earthquakes around the world. Basically we are waiting for the beginning of the next sequence of earthquakes that usually occur with clusterings of M5+ precursor earthquakes and an M7+ main earthquake.

The total number of earthquakes recorded in the last 24 has decreased to 813 which is within the normal range of activity.

According to Volcano earthquake report the volcanoes with shallow (less than 50 km) earthquakes within 20 km radius during the past 24 hours were:
Arenal (1 quake mag 2.8), Askja (4 quakes between mag 0.6-2.6), Bardarbunga (3 quakes between mag 1.0-1.1), Barva (1 quake mag 2.6), Bobrof (2 quakes between mag 0.7-1.6), Brennisteinsfjöll (11 quakes between mag 0.1-1.7) Clear Lake (24 quakes between mag 0.3-1.8), Coso (2 quakes between mag 0.8-2.0), Cuilapa-Barbarena (1 quake mag 2.6), El Hierro (1 quake mag 1.9), Fagradalsfjall (18 quakes between mag 0.2-1.0), Grímsvötn (6 quakes between mag0.52.8), Hrómundartindur (3 quakes between mag 0.1-2.7), Ilopango (1 quake mag 1.9), Kanaga (1 quake mag 1.9), Kilauea (4 quakes between mag 1.8-2.1), Krísuvík (8 quakes between mag 0.2-1.2), La Palma (1 quake mag 1.4), Loihi (1 quake mag 1.7), Miravalles (1 quake mag 2.1), Paco (1 quake mag 2.7), Reykjanes (33 quakes between mag 0.1-1.4), Rumble III (1 quake mag 3.0), Snowy Mountain (1 quake mag 1.5), Tambora (1 quake mag 2.8), Terceira (2 quakes between mag 1.6-1.7), Tjörnes Fracture Zone (1 quake mag 1.4), Torfajökull (1 quake mag 1.2), White Island (1 quake mag 2.1) (updated 21h50)

WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT DECEMBER 26_2023

Moderate levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24h. The agency Ayiti-Séismes reported a magnitude 6.3 earthquake in North Atlantic Ocean and no other agency did. An earthquake of this magnitude is usually reported by several agencies, so I suspect it was a human error.

Volcanodiscovery mentions that: "A very strong M6.3 earthquake hit Anguilla: North Atlantic Ocean in the early morning of Tuesday, Dec 26, 2023 at 03.22 am local time (GMT -4). The quake had a very shallow depth of 5 km (3.1 mi) and was not felt (or at least not reported so)"

Now, if this earthquake really occurred, this means that the energy in the Caribbean plate has been released, fortunately in an unpopulated area.
For analyst Jesús Ramos, the M5.3 earthquake that occurred in the Dominican Republic on the 22nd and this M5.4 earthquake near the Anguilla Islands today indicate that energy is being concentrated in the Caribbean plate.
Today the Dominican Republic recorded an M5.3 aftershock of the previous earthquake with the same magnitude. This same energy moved to the north of Venezuela causing a response with an M4.5 earthquake. Both earthquakes occurred within the Caribbean plate.

WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT DECEMBER 27_2023

Moderate levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24h. Two earthquakes M5+ hit southern East Pacific Rise. This may have repercussions in Chile. A strong magnitude 5.0 earthquake occurred under the sea 672 km (418 mi) from Greenland. This is related to the movement of energy from the volcanic activity being generated in Iceland. This energy will move along the entire Atlantic ridge.

The total number of earthquakes recorded in the last 24 has decreased to 863 which is within the normal range of activity.

According to Volcano earthquake report the volcanoes with shallow (less than 50 km) earthquakes within 20 km radius during the past 24 hours were:
Clear Lake (18 quakes between mag 0.3-2.3), Coso (10 quakes between mag 1.13.2) Fagradalsfjall (21 quakes between mag 0.1-1.1), Krísuvík (13 quakes between mag 0.2-1.9), Reykjanes (36 quakes between mag 0.1-1.5), Shishaldin (12 quakes between mag 0.6-3.6)

WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT DECEMBER 29_2023

Moderate levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24h. A seismic cluster was recorded in the southern Indian Ocean. So far, the highest magnitude earthquake reached 5.7. We will see in the next few days if a significant event (M7+) develops here and starts a new seismic sequence. (It should also be remembered that this region, according to an answer provided by the Cs, collapsed a large cavern. The earthquakes occurred close to Madagascar region)
(Pierre) What was the cause of this monochromatic earthquake that lasted 20 minutes last month off the coast of Madagascar?

A: Grand chamber collapse deep underground. Like a deep sinkhole. And extremely large!!!

Q: (Joe) They were saying they thought it was an undersea volcanic eruption.

(L) So what caused it?

A: Combination of factors including crustal slippage and magnetic field anomaly. Check gravity graphic for the region for clues.
Earth’s gravity isn’t smooth at the surface but is stronger in some places than others.
20231229_191802.jpg

The Indian Ocean has a spot with lower gravitational pull. Researchers think they know why.

The area in question is called the Indian Ocean Geoid Low and sea level above it is nearly 348 feet (106 meters) lower than the global average. Earth's gravitational pull is comparatively lower in this region and it is the Earth's lowest geoid, said researchers from the Indian Institute of Science.

The total number of earthquakes recorded in the last 24 has decreased to 862 which is within the normal range of activity.

According to Volcano earthquake report the volcanoes with shallow (less than 50 km) earthquakes within 20 km radius during the past 24 hours were:
Clear Lake (60 quakes between mag 0.3-3.4), Fagradalsfjall (16 quakes between mag 0.2-1.3), Kilauea (10 quakes between mag 0.7-2.4) Reykjanes (23 quakes between mag 0.2-1.0)
About Clear Lake Volcano Field
Although CLVF has not erupted for several millennia, sporadic volcanic-type earthquakes do occur in addition to the regular earthquakes associated with The Geysers geothermal field. USGS

WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT DECEMBER 30_2023

Moderate levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24h. A strong and shallow earthquake registered by the BMKG as M6.5 hit off the west coast of northern Sumatra, Indonesia at 05:19 UTC. USGS and EMSC report this quake as M5.6 at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles). The location of the epicenter is about 280 km (173 miles) E of the epicenter of December 26, 2004 M9.1 Sumatra-Andaman Earthquake.

The tsunami caused by that quake left an estimated 230 000 fatalities in 14 countries across 2 continents. Sumatra was the hardest hit, with more than 160 000 fatalities — or nearly 5% of the local population.

The USGS issued a Green alert (low) for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses

Another strong and shallow earthquake registered by the BMKG as M6.4 and USGS as M6.3 hit near the north coast of Papua. 17 000 people are estimated to have felt moderate shaking and 1 162 000 light according to USGS which issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses.

According to analyst Jesús Ramos, the M5+ seismic clustering in the Southern Indian Ocean on December 29 is an indicator of an event that can be expected to reach M7.1 in the region comprising Sumatra, Indonesia and southern Philippines.
chrome_screenshot_30 dic. 2023 16_32_00 GMT-06_00.png

The total number of earthquakes recorded in the last 24 has decreased to 859 which is within the normal range of activity.

According to Volcano earthquake report the volcanoes with shallow (less than 50 km) earthquakes within 20 km radius during the past 24 hours were:
Brennisteinsfjöll (9 quakes between mag 0.1-1.7), Clear Lake (31 quakes between mag 0.4-2.2) Fagradalsfjall (25 quakes between mag 0.1-1.5), Kilauea (114 quakes between mag 0.4-2.9), Reykjanes (30 quakes between mag 0.1-2.1)
Kilauea Volcano Update: Hundreds Of Earthquakes Recorded South Of Summit

A high rate of seismicity is being recorded in the southern summit region of Kīlauea volcano, although as of Saturday morning scientists say there are still no signs of an imminent eruption. The Kīlauea alert level remains at ADVISORY.

Over 350 earthquakes have occurred in the southern part of Kīlauea’s summit region since 1:10 p.m. on December 29, when the latest wave of unrest abrupty began.

One of the USGS tiltmeters monitoring Kīlauea also began recording an increased rate of inflation, starting around noon on Friday. The high rate of inflation continued into Saturday.
