Very full on. Impressive seeing tower buildings leaning at a wild angle, half sunk into the ground, but still looking completely intact. Must be built really well... And that car dashboard video of a landslide with huge rocks tumbling down the mountain, terrifying! Like, proper "storm giants hurling boulders around" stuff... I hope forum members in Taiwan are ok. We have at least one, @Candice ?

Hi @brandon, thank you for asking. I do live in the same county as most of the damage, Hualien but we were very lucky and only had a couple things fall over, no structural damage to our building. First time we’ve had power cut out after a quake, no power or internet for most of yesterday but all good now. There are different types of quakes and this one was the type where it feels like you’re on a ship and the ground is a turbulent ocean, which is better than the hard shaking variety. Had a very anxious dog due to all the aftershocks but they appear to have calmed down which is good.

WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT APRIL 03_2024

Very High levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24 hours. A powerful magnitude 7.4 earthquake occurred in the Philippine Sea near the coast of Taiwan in the morning of Wednesday, Apr 3, 2024 at 7.58 am local time. The quake might have been felt by over 35.2 million people across 4 countries: Taiwan (23.9 million), China (11.2 million) and Japan (51,300), Approximately 210,000 people near epicenter might have felt a severe shaking. USGS issued a Yellow (moderate) alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses.
At least nine people were killed and more than 1,000 others were injured on Wednesday in the most powerful earthquake to strike Taiwan in 25 years, the Taiwanese government said. ABCNews

Moderate levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24 hours. A very strong magnitude 6.1 earthquake occurred in the North Pacific Ocean 70 km from Miyagi-ken, Japan. According to USGS the quake might have been felt by over 11.5 million people across Japan. The closest larger town where the quake might have been felt is Ishinomaki, a city with more than 120,000 inhabitants in 95 km distance northwest of the epicenter.

USGS issued a Green alert (low) for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses. For this earthquake, 3 aftershocks have been detected so far. The strongest was a magnitude 3.0 quake that hit 2 hours and 26 minutes after the mainshock. The strongest-ever (since 1900) recorded quake in this area measured magnitude 8.2. It had occurred 320 years ago.

Earthquake in New Jersey felt in Connecticut

A 4.8 magnitude earthquake has been reported to be centered in northern New Jersey late Friday morning, and multiple reports of shaking have been reported in Connecticut.

The U.S. Geological Survey reported it took place about 3.1 miles northeast of Lebanon, New Jersey around 10:23 a.m.

Citizens reporting the earthquake to USGS throughout northern New Jersey, Long Island, New York City area describe the earthquake as light to moderate.

People have called the FOX61 Newsroom to report feeling the quake in Simsbury, Waterbury, Burlington, North Branford, and the Hartford area.

could this be a message from the universe, or maybe intentional?

In my opinion, none. There are three phenomena that influenced this earthquake. On the one hand we have an M4.4 earthquake in California (April 05) whose energy is moving eastward, on the other hand we have an M5.0 earthquake in the Azores (Apr 04) islands and the seismic activity in the Atlantic ridge. (Apr 05)

chrome_screenshot_5 abr. 2024 12_09_40 GMT-06_00.png
It looks like something is going to blow up in Central America or the Caribbean.

Someone on twitter looked at the epicentre of the earthquake and found it to be located at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster.

Assuming the location is correct, could this be a message from the universe, or maybe intentional?
Trump is not so much known as NJ based politician (despite he had Trump Casino before and Golf Club), more as a New york city guy.

I was 20 miles from the epicenter. Felt some shaking, but didn't connect it as earthquake. When I open windows, I tend to get strong wind and door shakes similarly, though I thought it is lot more persistent. I happen to drive nearer to epicenter for a pre-scheduled doctor appointment and all looked normal. As per local radio, it is not deep at the level of plates and it is above the plates. So, it might have felt little stronger than 4.8. We will never know what is in pipeline.
