Earthquakes around the world

WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT SEPTEMBER 23_2024

Moderate levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24 hours:

●M 5.4 - 22 km NNE of La Serena, Chile
02:36:39 (UTC)/66.4 km depth/ USGS
●M 5.0 - Greenland Sea/ 05:08:32 (UTC)/
10.0 km depth/ USGS
●M 5.1 - south of the Kermadec Islands/
19:08:45 (UTC)/186.2 km depth/ USGS
●M 6.0 - 73 km SSW of Gorontalo, Indonesia/ 19:51:03 (UTC)/149.4 km depth/ USGS
●M 5.6 - Izu Islands, Japan region/
23:14:19 (UTC)/11.7 km depth/ USGS

The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency of Indonesia (BMKG) recorded the earthquake as M6.4 while USGS and other agencies recorded it as M6.0. So far, only one aftershock has been recorded with M2.7. It hit 2 hours and 38 minutes after the mainshock.

Hm, is just me that the circle of fire is becoming hot, metaphorically speaking. Maybe I have it wrong, but something is happening with the tectonic plates in certain areas of the planet. The earth is groaning.

At the moment, no unusual seismic activity has been observed, but in the last few days it has been concentrated to the west of the Ring of Fire, mainly in the region of Indonesia and the Kermadec Islands.
earthquakes-latest (1).jpg

It is also significant that there has been no response in North America (Alaska, US West Coast and Mexico) after the M6.5 earthquake in Canada last September 15. For the moment there is a seismic silence for earthquakes greater than M5+.

In the past 24 hours, there were 921 quakes of magnitudes up to 6.0

●1 quake above magnitude 6
●4 quakes between magnitude 5 and 6
●36 quakes between magnitude 4 and 5
●79 quakes between magnitude 3 and 4
●243 quakes between magnitude 2 and 3
●558 quakes below magnitude 2 that people normally don't feel.

WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT SEPTEMBER 25_2024

It has been 72 hours of low levels of seismic activity. Only in the last 24 hours two M5+ earthquakes occurred.

● M 4.5 - 110 km WSW of Puerto Madero, Mexico/ 02:11:34 (UTC)/ 10.0 km depth/
USGS
● M 5.3 - 83 km WSW of Puerto Madero, Mexico/ 06:43:21 (UTC)/10.0 km depth/ USGS
● M 4.6 - 14 km E of Hizan, Turkey/11:50:04 (UTC)/10.0 km depth/ USGS
● M 5.3 - southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge/ 14:01:05 (UTC)/10.0 km depth/ USGS

Finally an M5.3 earthquake occurred in southeastern Mexico, after the energy had been concentrated between El Salvador and Panama. Let's hope this earthquake is not a precursor of a larger event.

The Mexican Republic experienced a very busy morning: in Mexico City (CDMX), ten micro-earthquakes were recorded; in addition, a 5.2 magnitude tremor was reported south of Guerrero, which was felt in some areas of the country's capital.

A swarm of micro-earthquakes shook Mexico City

From 00:39 to 19:51 hours of September 26, 10 micro-earthquakes have been registered in Mexico City, which has unleashed concern among residents due to their intensity.

The last of the movements had its epicenter in the municipality of Miguel Hidalgo with a magnitude of 1.7; six other earthquakes were registered in the same district during the day, according to the National Seismological Service (SSN). Two more had their origin in the municipality of Benito Juárez and one in the municipality of Álvaro Obregón.

These phenomena, according to experts, are felt more strongly in certain places due to the high acceleration or displacement they cause, which can cause damage to real estate.

"You are at a fixed point and (the movement) displaces you, that displacement is called acceleration (...) The earthquakes that are being generated in Mexico City do not last as long compared to those coming from the coast, but these, for example, can displace a building a lot, although for less time. So the acceleration is higher," explained Alejandro Méndez, a UNAM geologist who works with neighbors of the Plateros-Mixcoac fault.

"The neighborhoods that are around (the epicenter) have extremely violent accelerations that compare with large earthquakes on the coast, but they don't last as long," he said.

In 2023-2024 there have been 137 micro earthquakes or low intensity earthquakes in Mexico City (CDMX), 52 so far this year and 85 last year, events that have mainly been recorded in four municipalities: Alvaro Obregón, Magdalena Contreras, Benito Juárez and Miguel Hidalgo, according to SSN. So far there's no reports of damage.

In the past 24 hours, there were 905 quakes of magnitudes up to 6.3:
  • 1 quake above magnitude 6
  • 3 quakes between magnitude 5 and 6
  • 34 quakes between magnitude 4 and 5
  • 82 quakes between magnitude 3 and 4
  • 183 quakes between magnitude 2 and 3
  • 602 quakes below magnitude 2 that people normally don't feel.

Last week saw 3 M6, with the highest being a M6.5 in Canada.
In the usual area there were 6 out of 86 earthquakes worldwide equal to or greater than 4.5 and 1498 out of 2060 quakes of all sizes.
Percentage: 72.7%
Last week saw 2 M6 earthquakes with the highest being a M6.3 in Mauritius.
In the usual area, there were 2 out of 86 earthquakes worldwide equal to or greater than 4.5 and 1584 out of 1853 quakes of all sizes.

WORLDWIDE EARTHQUAKE REPORT OCTOBER 02_2024

SSGEOS published on its social networks regarding the seismic activity of October 1st.
A cluster of 5 strong earthquakes peaked Mw 6.6 and quickly followed on the planetary and lunar geometry that was discussed in the latest forecast. Stronger earthquakes tend to occur in temporal clusters, rather than on average.
The cluster prior to the two M6+ earthquakes mentioned by SSGEOS was as follows: five M5.1 or higher and three magnitude 5.0 earthquakes.

M 6.6 South Pacific Ocean, 251 km east of Tofua Island, Ha`apai, Tonga
● M 6.1 Banda Sea, 167 km southeast of Wangi-wangi Island, Indonesia.

● M 5.9 Philippine Sea, 79 km northeast of Catanduanes Island, Philippines.
● M 5.3 South Pacific Ocean, 57 km west of Iquique, Iquique, Tarapaca, Chile.
● M 5.2 South China Sea, 39 km west of Tagudin, Ilocos Sur, Ilocos, Philippines.
● M 5.1 301 km northeast of Ciudad Madero, Tamaulipas, Mexico
● M 5.1 Indian Ocean, 60 km southwest of Padangsidempuan, North Sumatra, Indonesia
● M 5.0 33 km ENE of Fangale'ounga, Tonga
● M 5.0 Tasman Sea, 46 km southwest of Wellington, Wellington, New Zealand
● M 5.0 Solomon Sea, 106 km south of Kokopo, East New Britain, Papua New Guinea

It is evident that prior to the October 2nd eclipse, seismic activity increased to high levels.

Low levels of seismic activity occurred in the past 24 hours:

● M 5.5 southern Mid-Atlantic Ridge
● M 5.2 Coral Sea, 22 km west of Gaua Island, Torba, Vanuatu
● M 5.2 South Pacific Ocean, Gisborne, New Zealand

At this moment we are registering almost 24 hours of seismic silence for earthquakes equal or greater than Magnitude 5. Let's wait and see what happens with another critical planetary geometry that happened on October 2nd (Mercury, Mars Uranus).

Geoscientists Discover Mysterious Subduction Zone beneath Pacific Ocean

Oct 1, 2024 by News Staff

During the Mesozoic era, between 250 and 120 million years ago, an ancient seafloor sank deep into Earth in the East Pacific Rise, a tectonic plate boundary on the floor of the southeastern Pacific Ocean, says a team of geoscientists from the University of Maryland and the University of Alberta

University of Maryland researcher Jingchuan Wang and colleagues used innovative seismic imaging techniques to peer deep into Earth’s mantle, the layer between our planet’s crust and core.

image_13302-Nazca-Plate.jpg

They found an unusually thick area in the mantle transition zone, a region located between about 410 and 660 km below the Earth’s surface.

The zone separates the upper and lower mantles, expanding or contracting based on temperature.

The newly-discovered seafloor may also explain the anomalous structure of the Pacific Large Low Shear Velocity Province (LLSVP) — a massive region in Earth’s lower mantle — as the LLSVP appears to be split by the slab.

“This thickened area is like a fossilized fingerprint of an ancient piece of seafloor that subducted into the Earth approximately 250 million years ago,” Dr. Wang said.

Interesting, the East Pacific ridge runs to Salton Lake which is located directly on the San Andreas fault.

In the past 24 hours, there were 831 quakes of magnitudes up to 5.5:

● 3 quakes above magnitude 5
● 38 quakes between magnitude 4 and 5
● 81 quakes between magnitude 3 and 4
● 220 quakes between magnitude 2 and 3
● 489 quakes below magnitude 2 that people normally don't feel.

SSGEOS suggests the possibility of a major seismic event in the next few days due to planetary geometries involving Mercury and Venus: Mercury, Mars, Uranus occurred on Oct. 2 and Sun, Venus, Neptune and Venu, Mars, Jupiter occurred on Oct. 3. The following zones are of special interest due to atmospheric fluctuations recorded.

SSGEOS Earthquake forecast updated September 7, 2024 15:00 UTC

A stronger tremor, higher 5 to 6 magnitude, is possible today and tomorrow. Similar seismic activity, possibly a cluster, may occur around 10-11 October.

It is quite possible that the forecast above has already been fulfilled with the earthquakes in the Kermadec Islands and Vanuatu.

There is a high chance of a major earthquake from 16 to 20 October, possibly reaching magnitude 7.5 or stronger.

On October 14 occurs the critical planetary geometry Mercury, Venus, Uranus which commonly generates important events. Let's wait and see.
