Significant magnitude 5.2 quake hit 87 km southwest of San Salvador. The earthquake occurred very close to where an M6.1 earthquake occurred last August 28, so it could be an aftershock. Central America has recorded several M4+ and M5+ earthquakes in recent weeks. While the southeast of Mexico has only had light M4+ earthquakes. For some analysts this is worrying because a response of M5.8 has occurred to the south in Panama but not to Mexico. Thus, in the next few days such a response could occur with a magnitude of 5.7 or in the worst case M6+.

M6.5 quake in Canada occurred along the Queen Charlotte fault. The Queen Charlotte Triple Junction is a geologic triple junction where three tectonic plates meet: the Pacific Plate, the North American Plate, and the Explorer Plate. The three plate boundaries which intersect here are the Queen Charlotte Fault, the northern Cascadia subduction zone, and the Explorer Ridge.

The area further offshore from this quake based on history is basically due for a major major quake along the Cascadia Fault.

If the Cascadia Fault generates a quake with the intensity of it's last one it will be a disaster for the Pacific northwest and the Vancouver area:
The 1700 Cascadia earthquake occurred along the Cascadia subduction zone on January 26, 1700, with an estimated moment magnitude of 8.7–9.2. The megathrust earthquake involved the Juan de Fuca Plate from mid-Vancouver Island, south along the Pacific Northwest coast as far as northern California. 1700 Cascadia earthquake

The energy from this earthquake M6.5 in Canada will move toward Alaska and into California and Baja California. Let's wait and see.

So far this has been the result of planetary and lunar geometries.

Q: (MK Scarlett) Can so-called "orographic" clouds, such as lenticular ones, in some cases, be precursors of earthquakes?

A: Yes

Q: (MK Scarlett) What is the average period (in days) between the atmospheric fluctuation that forms these cloud anomalies and a potential earthquake?

A: 3 to 7.

A very strong magnitude 6.3 earthquake occurred in the North Pacific Ocean 140 km (87 mi) from Northern Mariana Islands. USGS issued a Green alert for shaking-related fatalities and economic losses related to the earthquake. No aftershocks have been recorded so far.

A strong magnitude 5.5 earthquake occurred in the Philippine Sea near the coast of Miyazaki, Japan. This quake was likely an aftershock of the 7.1 quake Philippine Sea, 24 km southeast of Miyazaki, Miyazaki, Japan, Aug 8, 2024
After this earthquake struck, 1 smaller aftershock occurred. A 4.7 magnitude earthquake hit 12 mins later 8 km (5 mi) southwest of this earthquake.

So far, the Japanese authorities have not issued any statement or alert in this regard, so it can be assumed that these earthquakes are within the parameters of the correct release of energy after the M7.1 earthquake.

A M5.2 earthquake occurred in Buzau County, Romania, at around 17:40 Sept. 16. The epicenter was about 57 km (35 miles) east of Brasov. The tremor occurred at a depth of about 133 km (83 miles), and light shaking was probably felt throughout parts of central and eastern Romania, southwestern Moldova, far southwestern Ukraine, and northern Bulgaria. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.

As this report is being written, an M5.1 shallow earthquake has hit Texas.

5.1 Magnitude earthquake rattles West Texas down to San Antonio

A large magnitude earthquake shook West Texas Monday night, triggering thousands of reports to the United States Geological Survey. This marks only the third earthquake in Texas since 2017 to exceed a Magnitude 5 scale since 2017, according to data from the Texas Seismology Network.

The scale of the earthquake sent shockwaves through much of West Texas, certainly shaking homes well into the Texas Hill Country miles southeast of the quake. However, folks all the way down into San Antonio and Austin are reporting feeling the vibrations.

Several other folks in the area noted that earthquakes are becoming a for too common occurrence in West Texas. There’s certainly been increased activity over the past few years. In fact, data shows the number and magnitude of earthquakes in Texas could be starting to rival numbers in California – a state for more recognized for its seismic activity.

“The earthquake rate in the broader Eagle Ford Shale, which stretches from approximately La Grange southwest all the way to the border with Mexico, has risen significantly since 2018,” Justin Rubinstein, a research geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey previously told MySA. “The earthquakes have also gotten larger.”

While there’s no direct link between fracking or oil and gas production and Monday night’s earthquake, it could be months before an official cause is identified. However, the USGS does warn improper wastewater disposal from the oil and gas industry can be a large contributor to earthquakes in the region, and the Texas Tribune recently reported Midland officials were fighting the oil and gas industry to halt the improper wastewater disposals.

Earthquake forecast updated 17 September 2024, 12:50 UTC

SSGEOS forecast a 60% chance of a magnitude 6.0 -6.4 earthquake this week.
A convergence of planetary and lunar geometry on 17-18 September can result in strong to major seismic activity, possibly 18-19 September.

Seismic unrest occurred especially in the second week of September with two clusters of strong earthquakes and three M6+ earthquakes

A magnitude-5.0 earthquake occurred in West Java Province at around 09:41 Sept. 18. The epicenter was about 38 km (24 miles) south of Bandung.

The tremor occurred at a depth of about 10 km (6 miles), and weak-to-light shaking was probably felt throughout western Java island, including parts of Banten and Central Java provinces and Jakarta. There have been no initial reports of damage or casualties as a result of the earthquake.

It could take several hours until authorities can conduct comprehensive damage assessments, especially in remote areas. Aftershocks are possible over the coming days.

Officials may temporarily shut down transportation infrastructure in the tremor zone to check for damage. Minor disruptions could occur during shutdowns, but service will likely resume quickly if no damage is found. Utility outages are possible, particularly near the earthquake's epicenter.

We have 12 hours without an earthquake magnitude 5 or higher. We have M4+ seismic activity mainly in northern New Zealand and Tonga region where an M5.2 earthquake was recorded. If the seismic silence of M5 earthquakes continues in the next hours this will indicate an upcoming significant event. Let's wait and see.

In the past 24 hours, there were 829 quakes of magnitudes up to 5.2:

●2 quakes above magnitude 5
●31 quakes between magnitude 4 and 5
●80 quakes between magnitude 3 and 4
