The Meteorological, Climatological, and Geophysical Agency of Indonesia (BMKG) recorded the earthquake as M6.4 while USGS and other agencies recorded it as M6.0. So far, only one aftershock has been recorded with M2.7. It hit 2 hours and 38 minutes after the mainshock.​

At the moment, no unusual seismic activity has been observed, but in the last few days it has been concentrated to the west of the Ring of Fire, mainly in the region of Indonesia and the Kermadec Islands.​

It is also significant that there has been no response in North America (Alaska, US West Coast and Mexico) after the M6.5 earthquake in Canada last September 15. For the moment there is a seismic silence for earthquakes greater than M5+.​

It has been 72 hours of low levels of seismic activity. Only in the last 24 hours two M5+ earthquakes occurred.

Finally an M5.3 earthquake occurred in southeastern Mexico, after the energy had been concentrated between El Salvador and Panama. Let's hope this earthquake is not a precursor of a larger event.

The Mexican Republic experienced a very busy morning: in Mexico City (CDMX), ten micro-earthquakes were recorded; in addition, a 5.2 magnitude tremor was reported south of Guerrero, which was felt in some areas of the country's capital.​

From 00:39 to 19:51 hours of September 26, 10 micro-earthquakes have been registered in Mexico City, which has unleashed concern among residents due to their intensity.

The last of the movements had its epicenter in the municipality of Miguel Hidalgo with a magnitude of 1.7; six other earthquakes were registered in the same district during the day, according to the National Seismological Service (SSN). Two more had their origin in the municipality of Benito Juárez and one in the municipality of Álvaro Obregón.

These phenomena, according to experts, are felt more strongly in certain places due to the high acceleration or displacement they cause, which can cause damage to real estate.

"You are at a fixed point and (the movement) displaces you, that displacement is called acceleration (...) The earthquakes that are being generated in Mexico City do not last as long compared to those coming from the coast, but these, for example, can displace a building a lot, although for less time. So the acceleration is higher," explained Alejandro Méndez, a UNAM geologist who works with neighbors of the Plateros-Mixcoac fault.

"The neighborhoods that are around (the epicenter) have extremely violent accelerations that compare with large earthquakes on the coast, but they don't last as long," he said.


In 2023-2024 there have been 137 micro earthquakes or low intensity earthquakes in Mexico City (CDMX), 52 so far this year and 85 last year, events that have mainly been recorded in four municipalities: Alvaro Obregón, Magdalena Contreras, Benito Juárez and Miguel Hidalgo, according to SSN. So far there's no reports of damage.​

SSGEOS published on its social networks regarding the seismic activity of October 1st.​
A cluster of 5 strong earthquakes peaked Mw 6.6 and quickly followed on the planetary and lunar geometry that was discussed in the latest forecast. Stronger earthquakes tend to occur in temporal clusters, rather than on average.
The cluster prior to the two M6+ earthquakes mentioned by SSGEOS was as follows: five M5.1 or higher and three magnitude 5.0 earthquakes.​

Geoscientists Discover Mysterious Subduction Zone beneath Pacific Ocean​

During the Mesozoic era, between 250 and 120 million years ago, an ancient seafloor sank deep into Earth in the East Pacific Rise, a tectonic plate boundary on the floor of the southeastern Pacific Ocean, says a team of geoscientists from the University of Maryland and the University of Alberta

University of Maryland researcher Jingchuan Wang and colleagues used innovative seismic imaging techniques to peer deep into Earth’s mantle, the layer between our planet’s crust and core.

They found an unusually thick area in the mantle transition zone, a region located between about 410 and 660 km below the Earth’s surface.

The zone separates the upper and lower mantles, expanding or contracting based on temperature.

The newly-discovered seafloor may also explain the anomalous structure of the Pacific Large Low Shear Velocity Province (LLSVP) — a massive region in Earth’s lower mantle — as the LLSVP appears to be split by the slab.

“This thickened area is like a fossilized fingerprint of an ancient piece of seafloor that subducted into the Earth approximately 250 million years ago,” Dr. Wang said.


Interesting, the East Pacific ridge runs to Salton Lake which is located directly on the San Andreas fault.
