The link you posted also mentions 6.9. I think initially it was 7.2 but it got downgraded to 6.9. There were tsunami warnings for a radius of 300km according to RT: https://www.rt.com/news/372593-fiji-islands-powerful-earthquake/

A powerful earthquake has struck off the coast of Fiji, triggering a tsunami warning within 300km of the epicenter. The USGS downgraded the quake to 6.9 while the PTWC measured it at 7.0, warning that waves up to 1 meter might hit the island nation.

The quake, initially measured at 7.2 magnitude, was centered some 221 km southwest of Nadi at a depth of 15.2 km, the USGS said. A series of strong aftershocks measuring between 4.9 and 5.8 struck the same area within an hour after the initial quake.

"Appin earthquake shakes homes within 56km radius, south of Sydney"

http://www.abc.net.au/news/2017-01-04/appin-earthquake-shakes-homes-of-more-than-100-residents/8160178

"A magnitude-3.9 earthquake has hit homes in Appin and surrounding suburbs, south of Sydney, just after 1:00am.

GeoScience Australia reported that the earthquake could have been felt in a 56-kilometre radius, which includes Wollongong, parts of the southern highlands and most of southern and western Sydney."

Although 3.9 is not a large quake, it is very unusual to get an earthquake on the Australian mainland, this one is between Sydney and Wollongong, which is a large population centre.

Britain has been hit by its biggest earthquake in a decade - but no one felt it.

Big Earthquake Strikes Britain Under the Sea
https://sputniknews.com/europe/201701041049259480-north-england-earthquake-tremors/

The tremor struck the UK 100 miles off the coast of Scarborough, in the north east of England, shaking the depths of the North Sea.

The British Geological Survey (BGS) confirmed that the 3.8 magnitude earthquake did occur.

Prelim EQ data: UK Earthquake alert: M 3.8: SOUTHERN NORTH SEA http://dlvr.it/N1w97X

However, there are still no reports that it was felt on land, suggesting a sense of apathy towards the quake, or a sense of humor?

According to the BGS, earthquakes remain a relatively rare occurrence on land — but less so at sea.

"Earthquakes are almost completely absent from eastern Scotland and north east England. Similarly, Ireland is almost completely free of earthquakes."

In 2015, two earthquakes in two days occurred in the UK, first in Hampshire and after in the East Midlands.

Fracking, which involves blasting rocks underground with water, sand and chemicals to fracture rock to reveal gas was initially blamed for causing the tremor. But the blame swayed when anti-fracking group Frack Off said it was "unlikely." However, tremors that struck Lancashire in the north west of England in 2011 were blamed on fracking tests.

Energy firm Cuadrilla admitted that shale gas test drilling had triggered earthquakes in the area — an admission that was particularly unpopular in Blackpool.

Britain's North Sea coast isn't necessarily an earthquake prone area either — but it is "more active than the mainland," according to the BGS.

This earthquake was extremely deep at 617 km (380 miles) according to USGS; in fact it may be the deepest ever recorded. According to Wikipedia:

The strongest deep-focus earthquake in seismic record was the magnitude 8.3 Okhotsk Sea earthquake that occurred at a depth of 609 km in 2013.

Because it was so deep there was little effect on the surface, so it wasn't that 'news worthy' as such, but perhaps it was a significant marker event?

A comment on this sott article (https://www.sott.net/article/339148-Strong-7-3-magnitude-undersea-earthquake-strikes-near-the-Philippines) quotes dutchsinse, who seems to have quite a decent record of earthquake forecasting:

Deep earthquakes usually lead to shallower larger earthquakes which strike the "silent zone fulcrum points" on every side of the deep event.

Thus Japan, Papua New Guinea (solomon sea), and Indonesia all three need to be warned, and all three will be hit by larger activity (larger than anything we've seen in the past several weeks). This could reach above M6.5 in several locations.

The larger earthquakes could go a full 1-2 magnitudes LARGER than the deep M7.3 - thus making the potential for a very large earthquake (M8.3 to M9.3) much greater than "normal".

Maybe a reporting error or a bug?

Does the magnitude represent the Richter scale? I would be surprised that a 10+ magnitude earthquake in Cairo would go unreported if it actually happened.

No sign of this quake on USGS or earthquake tracker or Google - and only 1 post on twitter which claims it occurred but provides no link.

A few of which feature on the quoted source _http://quakes.globalincidentmap.com/ -- which does not show a M10 in Cairo as of right now. So i would assume it's a false alarm of some kind.

It looks more likely like a bug. Notice that the depth is negative. Also such a powerful earthquake (besides killing millions in such a populated area) would be felt all around the Mediterranean.

Definitely strange, may sound funny, the depth of the earthquake was recorded in the positive, is this something that maybe happened contrary, means not in the interior of the Earth, more in the universe?

Let's say that this is so, it means that something happened at that height of 116.084833km over Cairo ?

Also, I've googled little , this is not the first such recorded data, the same thing happened 09/01/2017. in Syria

Four 5+ quakes in three hours it's a "new phenomenon in recent history" as described by INGV, and at least seven 4+ quakes and several threes too.

Yesterday there was a huge fire in Genoa, then this morning Pescara (Abruzzo) got flooded by rain, strong winds in Trieste, heavy snow Center-Sud Italy, a sweep of "hot" winds on the Adriatic Sea side, then the quakes. :O
