The death toll in an earthquake that struck western Iran near the border with Iraq has increased to 328, the region’s medical service said Monday.

On Sunday, the European-Mediterranean Seismological Center (EMSC) issued a statement about a 7.2-magnitude quake that hit Iran-Iraq border region at a depth of 12 miles, 132 miles northeast of Iraqi capital city of Baghdad, causing serious damage to the region.
Earlier in the day, head of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Pir Hossein Kolivand said that
the number of those injured in an earthquake in western Iran has increased to 2,500.
The Red Crescent reported that about 70,000 Iranians were left without homes, the organization is opening tent camps on the site of the earthquake. The authorities of the country are taking all necessary measures to provide assistance to the victims.
A three-day mourning period was declared in the Iranian province of Kermanshah. It is assumed that the number of victims will grow.

the earthquake has caused landslides that have damaged roads.
In addition to Iran, Iraq suffered from the earthquake — the most damage was recorded in the city of Darbandikhan.
The Russian Embassy in Tehran said it did not receive any information about Russian nationals injured as a result of the earthquake, adding that the Russian diplomatic missions in the disaster area had not been damaged.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has expressed condolences to his Iranian and Iraqi counterparts, Hassan Rouhani and Fuad Masum, respectively.
An earthquake measuring 7.3 occurred on the border between Iran and Iraq on Sunday. Underground shocks were recorded 204 kilometers to the north-east of Baghdad and 104 kilometers to the west of the Iranian city of Kermanshah.

The number of those injured in an earthquake in western Iran has increased to 2,500, Head of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Pir Hossein Kolivand said on Monday.
According to him,
210 people were killed.
The US Geological Survey (USGS) said that a magnitude 6.8 quake occurred on Sunday night off the coastal area of Costa Rica's Parrita canton.

According to USGS, a strong quake has struck southwest off the coast of Costa Rica hours after the disastrous tremor hit the border area between Iran and Iraq.
The USGS has recorded
the epicenter nearly 44 miles (71 km) southwest of San Jose at an approximate depth of 6.2 miles (10 km).
Local authorities have not issued any report on the possible impact of the quake.
Earlier on in the day, another seismic epicenter was registered some 218 miles (251km) east off the Japan's coastal area.
