Thought this might be of some interest:

Reporters Without Borders has launched the first Online Free Expression Day today.

“From now on, we will organise activities every 12 March to condemn cyber-censorship throughout the world,” Reporters Without Borders said. “A response of this kind is needed to the growing tendency to crack down on bloggers and to close websites."

“Today, the first time this day is being marked, we are giving all Internet users the opportunity to demonstrate in places were protests are not normally possible. We hope many will come and protest in virtual versions of Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, Cuba’s Revolution Square or on the streets of Rangoon, in Burma. At least 62 cyber-dissidents are currently imprisoned worldwide, while more than 2,600 websites, blogs or discussions forums were closed or made inaccessible in 2007.”

The press freedom organisation added: “Our list of ‘Internet Enemies’ has also been updated with the addition of two countries - Ethiopia and Zimbabwe. And we are offering an new version of our Handbook for Bloggers and Cyber-Dissidents.”

Reporters Without Borders learned last night that UNESCO has withdrawn its patronage for today’s Online Free Expression Day (read our press release).

To denounce government censorship of the Internet and to demand more online freedom, Reporters Without Borders is calling on Internet users to come and protest in online versions of nine countries that are Internet enemies during the 24 hours from 11 a.m. tomorrow, 12 March, to 11 a.m. on 13 March (Paris time, GMT +1). Anyone with Internet access will be able to create an avatar, choose a message for their banner and take part in one of the cyber-demos taking place in Burma, China, Cuba, Egypt, Eritrea, North Korea, Tunisia, Turkmenistan and Vietnam.

There are 15 countries in this year’s Reporters Without Borders list of “Internet Enemies” - Belarus, Burma, China, Cuba, Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, North Korea, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Vietnam and Zimbabwe. There were only 13 in 2007. The two new additions to the traditional censors are both to be found in sub-Saharan Africa: Zimbabwe and Ethiopia.

“This is not at all surprising as these regimes regularly hound the traditional media,” Reporters Without Borders says in the introduction to its report.“Internet penetration is very slight, but nevertheless sufficient to give them a few nightmares. They follow the example of their seniors and draw on the full arsenal of online censorship methods including legislation, monitoring Internet cafés and controlling ISPs.”

There is also a supplementary list of 11 “countries under watch.” They are Bahrain, Eritrea, Gambia, Jordan, Libya, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Thailand, United Arab Emirates and Yemen. Unlike the “enemies,” these countries do not imprison bloggers or censor the Internet massively. But they are sorely tempted and abuses are common. Many of them have laws that they could use to gag the Internet if they wanted. And the judicial or political authorities often use anti-terrorism laws to identify and monitor government opponents and activists expressing themselves online.

“The hunting down of independent thinkers online is all the more effective as several major western companies have colluded with governments in pinpointing ‘trouble-makers’,” the reports says. “US company Yahoo! apologised in 2007 for a ‘misunderstanding’ which ended in journalist Shi Tao being sent to prison for ten years. The company has been responsible for the imprisonment of a total of four Chinese cyber-dissidents. It was apparently willing to ‘obey local laws’ that forced it to identify Internet users deemed to be dangerous.”

Finally, a new version of the Handbook for Bloggers and Cyber-Dissidents is available in French and English on the Reporters Without Borders website (www.rsf.org). It offers practical advice and techniques on how to start up a blog, how to blog for anonymously and how to circumvent censorship. It also includes the accounts of bloggers from countries such as Egypt and Burma.

The cyber-demonstration was devised and produced by the Saatchi & Saatchi advertising agency.

Reporters Without Borders defends imprisoned journalists and press freedom throughout the world. It has nine national sections (Austria, Belgium, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland). It has representatives in Bangkok, London, New York, Tokyo and Washington. And it has more than 120 correspondents worldwide.

How To Be a Successful Overlord

Inasmuch as world domination is one of Atreides favourite hobbies, and since he such a great guy, this is for YOU! (also recommended reading for any henchmen applying for minion status)

http://www.proft.org/tips/evil.html

A small sample of the sage advice thoughtfully gathered by Mr. Peter Anspach:

The Top 100 Things I'd Do If I Ever Became An Evil Overlord

1. My Legions of Terror will have helmets with clear Plexiglas visors, not face concealing ones.

2. My ventilation ducts will be too small to crawl through.

3. My noble half-brother whose throne I usurped will be killed, not kept anonymously imprisoned in a forgotten cell in my dungeon.

4. Shooting is not too good for my enemies.

5. The artifact which is the source of my power will not be kept on the Mountain of Despair beyond the River of Fire guarded by the Dragon of Eternity. It will be in my safe-deposit box. The same applies to the object which is my one weakness.

6. I will not gloat over my enemies predicament before killing them.

7. When I've captured my adversary and he says, "Look, before you kill me, will you at least tell me what this is all about?" I'll say, "No." and shoot him. No, on second thought, I'll shoot him and then say "No."

8. After I kidnap the beautiful princess, we will be married immediately in a quiet civil ceremony, not a lavish spectacle in three weeks' time during which the final phase of my plan will be carried out.

9. I will not include a self-destruct mechanism unless absolutely necessary. If it is necessary, it will not be a large red button labelled, "Danger: Don Not Push". The big red button marked "Do Not Push" will instead trigger a spray of bullets on anyone stupid enough to disregard it. Similarly, the ON/OFF switch will clearly not be labelled as such.

10. I will not interrogate my enemies in the inner sanctum - a small hotel room well outside my border will work just as well.

There's 90 more where they came from. Enjoy! :P

Secret Knowledge Has a Way of Staying Secret.
Here is the catch. There are some things you were not meant to know. There is knowledge of such a degree it is as if your brain filters it out of your memory as soon as you have finished reading it. In order to know this secret knowledge, even when it is placed on a page right before your eyes, you must desire to keep it. You must struggle to acknowledge, digest and realize it. There are people who have studied spiritual knowledge all of their lives and when they read The Handbook of the Navigator they tossed it aside assuming there was nothing there. When questioned further about each chapter they discovered there were whole chapters of knowledge they could not recall reading. Each time they went back to read it, still, entire chapters of key secrets were cleared from their mind as if the pages were never there. When they finally read it and realized what they had missed so many times, they were amazed.

That is the power of this knowledge.

Hmmm, well I really wonder if there's a third party involved. Pepin and his lawyer don't really think they're going to strike gold here. Surely not.

So, spread it far and wide. Make sure it costs them far more than us. "Them" meaning those who don't like an independent alternative news site that they don't control.

And Google looks like there doing their best to keep that from hapening. So, let's expose that too.

Higher Balance Meditation® effectively stills your mind, shutting down “The Babbler” (inner noise) and gently trains you to stay focused. This leaves you free to move ahead quickly… into other personal areas you want to explore and develop. You simply listen to the audio voice… which prompts you when to use specific techniques and when to switch to other techniques designed to affect specific, target areas. It encourages and motivates you to get the most out of each and every session. The technology works powerfully (but quietly) in the background without you having to worry about a thing… as long as you wear headphones for maximum effect!

The sixth sense still exists within dormant regions of the brain. In fact, on occasion it reacts in a variety of ways such as deja-vu, a sense of not being alone, or someone staring at the back of your head. Our modern brains have developed far beyond those of our ancestors and in the process have largely abandoned the regions of the sixth sense. Awakening the sixth sense within your brain and teaching you to unite its abilities with the mind will allow you to experience the universe in its full potential. It is like never being able to touch and then suddenly beginning to. Once you begin to awaken this forgotten sense every moment in your life will change. The sixth sense is very real. It has simply become dormant for most people through evolution. This means it can be reactivated and enhanced. The activation and enhancement of this dormant sense is the key to everything you have been looking for. It is the bridge that will lead to spiritual fulfillment, true inner peace, and completion. The second powerful step in the Higher Balance meditation system is specific specialized techniques that work to activate, enhance and control this dormant sense while you are meditating and even when you aren't. Turn on the hidden regions of the brain that time and evolution have forgotten. Combine the primitive sensory with your evolved modern brain and move yourself through dimensional space.

Higher Balance is the result of over 15 years of painstaking development, research, experience, and refinement. In more philosophical terms it is the result of thousands of years of dedication. Higher Balance has been built upon lifetimes of knowledge evolving over generations upon generations, waiting for that one spark to ignite and make the quantum leap. Higher Balance Institute is that spark igniting a revolutionary leap in spiritual consciousness.

Ask anyone who has participated in the Higher Balance program and they will tell you, 'That distant star, the one on the horizon, unreachable and unknowable? Closer than you could ever imagine.' At that moment they would open the palm of their hand and you would see it, so infinitely small, yet so perfect, so beautiful, this tiny magical glowing star.

on Dec 1st he [Eric Pepin] led the group through a guided “dreamscape-ish” session on creating their own internal Kingdoms, starting from absolute black all the way through bustling communes and ecologies representing ongoing activity in outer life. And as always, in person, Eric broadcasts amazing visual detail within the dream canvas of those he takes to that ‘place’

Eric Pepin:
I would suggest people who want to develop their psychic abilities to move to the east coast. There are much more hauntings, psychic frequencies and paranormal happenings. On the other hand I would suggest that people who want to push the frontier of dimensional consciousness to move to the west coast. On more general terms, as a white cell “Navigator”, I find that the east coast can have a very depressive effect on the psyche. The energies are very heavy with the consciousness of the population. In general terms it is not a bad intention but it’s the weight of this consciousness that causes much of the depression. The west coast has an elevated frequency; much lighter and easier to allow the mind to flow during meditations. Thus allowing greater success. It is also interesting to note that while in Louisiana I would say that there is a mix, kind of like fresh water rivers blending into the ocean, “Brackish waters”, causing a constant blending effect that I assume changes from one high to another “fluctuation”. This contributes to interesting energies here which are unique in their own right.

Eric Pepin:
Ironically many Navigators are people-shy, and rightfully so, as we don’t mix well with red cells or at least most of us — ha ha we have a few show boats ha ha. I guess what I am trying to say and who I’m reaching out to, are the white cells that are withdrawn and want to meet the rest of us. My suggestion, Get over it!

Eric Pepin:
I have Hindu statues, Buddha figurines, incense and pictures beads etc.[..] I do believe in being spiritual and my home is my sanctuary “my spiritual oasis from the world”, and all of these things silently remind me of who I am and what I am seeking in this life. They “represent” the spiritual in me.[..] Snoopy was not a beautiful Hindu statue or a meditating Buddha but already at 6 years old I knew it represented, or I should say stirred within me–within my soul, a sense of joy. And that my friend, not only can save your soul…. it can liberate it.

Eric Pepin:
Back to the age of 12 and the Christmas tree magical moment. [..] That moment was beautiful. There was a soft humm within me. It was love or felt like being loved. I was not scared that day and whatever emanated from me kept everything that was or could be bad away from me. It was a magical place. It was invoked by a state of thought that became fueled and inspired within me and came out. That moment is recaptured each and every day I meditate. It is a place. A mental journey can bring it back to the now if I am lost in life. It is a blanket of protection and warmth… it is a kind of love. That is he magic you should create and you can if you choose.

Matt Struve:
The night sky was so clear, you could seriously feel the depth of space so perfectly. The moon, super imposed over the stars behind it, and the trees in my peripheral superimposed over the moon. Very relaxing, and took my mind into reflections of the bigger picture expanding out beyond me. Haven’y you ever done that. While looking up at the stars, reflect on the fact that you aren’t looking “up” at all. You are looking “out”. When you think about size and space, who says looking up is actually up, what if you are actually on the bottom of the planet? Or the side? See? Next time you lay down and star gaze, consider that you are actually looking “down” into space. With gravity pinning you up down on the ground. It’ll make your head spin.

If you've never attended a Higher Balance retreat I don't think you'll really understand. If you have, you get it. Still, nothing comes without effort so you are right in asking. They should try. However, you should also try to be aware where you are asking from. The Navigators who came back are in a more heightened state, most are not going to be used to that place and the I's in that place are more obvious and noticeable. If you ask from a place of pettyness or bitterness, it's going to hit them, they aren't going to be used to it and you won't get much from them. Many have already noticed it. The good is that if you give them some space, they will be able to share more from that place if you encourage it rather than discourage.
Does anyone want to join me in listening to Pepin's podcasts? If not for its sheer nonsense his voice would do well for ESL, nice babbles.
I would say his voice has a captivating hypnotising effect. If you have time, please check you reactions to his voice.

What's got me so confused is how could lawyers possibly charge so much for something so straight forward and obvious as defending SOTT? To me (wearing my lack of legal knowledge on my sleeve here), it seems plain that there was no defamation and that all the charges allegeded by Pepin are frivolous to say the least. I hope SOTT plans to counter sue, this is an outrage!

I mean, anyone who reads the thread with a clear mind and no emotional investment bashing or defending Pepin can see that we were simply discussing a topic and trying to get to the bottom of it. It's also obvious by the tone of the posts that there was no intent to cause harm, except maybe for the few angry Pepinites that came over and started retaliating because they did not like the flow of the conversation. Further - as demonstrated by Laura - this thread was started by Pepinites in a clear attempt to use our forum for advertising!

It just goes to demonstate how ponerized American society is when lawsuits like this can actually go to court and waste not only public resources, but those involved in the suit as well. So the story goes....

It seems important to understand how clear a representation of a ponerized society this really is - black is white, up is down, right is wrong and free speech and agenda-free intellectual discussion is 'defamation'.

When the system is set up by psychopaths for psychopaths, normal (non-pathological) human beings end up having to go to extraordinary lengths just to protect themselves; just to engage in activities that are ultimately in the best interest of all normal human beings.

One might even speculate that the real intent of the suit is to try to seize all my copyrights, put me so deeply into debt that anything I write ever again will be owed to someone else who will then, we suspect, bury it forever.
If they have such intentions, they could try to have themselves (preventively - as in now and preparing for the court proceedings) written into the books as creditors. They don't necessarily have to do it in France, they can in principle ask a court anywhere in the EU where legislation is favourable to them to put a lien on your property - if they are smart lawyers, they'll invent something convincing enough - and/or work thru international agreements.

Also, I hear that French law about personal bankruptcy has some advantages as compared to, say, the US - I was told that if one is demonstrably destitute it takes less than 6 months to have all debts removed by the court. I don't know the law exactly, but it might be worth it to have a closer look at it, just in case.

It would perhaps be prudent, supposing there is still time, to move fast and bring your proverbial sheep to safety and out of the line of fire. After that, well, they could run up the bills all they wanted in this little charade of theirs, and then eat all the cake they want (but not your sheep) when the show is over.

I know that this way of thinking is very 3D STS, but still ...

I can't see them winning. They have no case. They'd have to have a completely psychopathic or ponerized judge that was bought and paid for ahead of time. The case would be a sham, the biggest of all shams and anyone who can read could see the truth for themselves. Personally I think this is a weak attack at best, maybe my optimism is getting the best of me here.

The only option I see is to spread what is happening as far and as wide across the 'net as possible. If people knew what was at stake and how twisted Pepin really is their whole case would collapse.

Cyre said:

In a ponerized socirty that's exactly what is likely to happen. Case in point: Judge Oded Mudrik (who at the time helped Olmert when he had a court case) and Israeli legal system put Isabella Belfer for 6.5 years in prison for helping her grandaughter and daughter to escape clutches of her psychopathic son-in-law by escaping to Moscow

http://www.cassiopaea.org/forum/index.php?topic=8128

I'm emotionally invested with that case, as it’s amply and evidently demonstrates pathological nature of legal system if it’s taken over by deviants

If this case can get thrown out, then SOTT should be able to get theirs dealt with too:

"Gentle Wind Project drops lawsuit against whistle blowers"

(AP, November 10, 2006)

Portland, USA - A Kittery-based group that claimed to promote spiritual healing and sold objects it characterized as "healing instruments" has agreed to drop a defamation lawsuit against a Blue Hill couple who compared it to a "mind control cult."

The agreement calls for The Gentle Wind Project to drop its claims against Jim Bergin and Judy Garvey and reimburse them for donations they made to the organization over the 17-year period in which they were members.

The couple had published online critiques of Gentle Wind, saying it came to dominate all aspects of their lives. The articles led to more than three years of litigation as John "Tubby" Miller, who ran Gentle Wind, claimed that the bad publicity damaged its ability to raise money.

While the case was pending, the Maine Attorney General's Office sued Gentle Wind for false claims and fraud. In a settlement reached last summer, the organization agreed to pay fines and to stop making claims about healing instruments resembling cards and hockey pucks that purportedly could cure physical and emotional damage caused by illnesses ranging from alcoholism to paralysis.[/b]

[Sex abuse charges must surely be beyond marketing "holy hockey pucks". Plus, SOTT was publishing the presiding judge's opinion. not just some in-house evaluation!]

The Miller family sued Bergin, Garvey and operators of Internet sites that published their work. After the case was thrown out of federal court last year, the Millers filed the lawsuit in state court in York County.

The Millers could not be reached for comment Thursday on the settlement with Bergin and Garvey, but the couple released a statement celebrating the outcome.

"We had a right to tell our stories of 17 years as followers of the Gentle Wind Project," they wrote. "(Those rights) are all too often threatened when an individual or organization with deep pockets can use the civil legal process to silence whistle blowers."
