finally started on detox diet

Personally I use a Brita filtering carafe. I believe you can find Brita products in Belgium. (they have a site: http://www.brita.be/ but it takes time to download).
For the Chestnut milk, it's this one, from Bjorg, a French brand specialised in organic/dietetic products. The ingredients are water, organic crushed chestnuts, organic rice malt, organic cold pressed sunflower oil, sea salt. It's devilishly good :D
Apparently Bjorg products are sold in France, Belgium, Italy, Spain, Portugal, North Africa and Middle East.

Thanks for the info. I can't wait to find the chestnut milk. We actually do have a brita filter, but I was thinking that distilled might be better... That'll save some money!

I use a Brita too, a present from my sister. The taste is definitely different and yes, better. My sister has got some really good ideas and we get along well.
That's a very good advice Lúthien.

Just a note about the distilled water you can buy at the supermarket in the plastic containers - the distilled water seems to really leach out the plastic - it even tastes (just barely) like plastic. When I really noticed it was when I began using the FIR sauna, because every time (while I was drinking that distilled water in plastic) I ended up with a plastic taste in my mouth after being in the sauna for an hour! Once I stopped drinking distilled water from plastic, that plastic taste went away.

I then had a 'duh' moment - that I had been drinking plastic with the distilled water, that came from the plastic container! (I was a little slow at the time about such things...) ;)

Yeah, I've started trying to detox also. We're getting into it a little at a time though. Can't just throw out what we have. We have started taking the vitamins and supplements and cutting out the more toxic stuff a little at a time.

Supplements has BECOME a meal for me, I can't eat a thing after stuffing down fishoils, Cal-mags, ALA and what-else-on-the suppl.-menu in the mornings Tongue

I agree, after all those pills who can eat.

Try to get baking soda that is free of aluminum. The commercial brands are generally contaminated with it so you will probably have to look for it in an organic food store. The aluminum-free brands say so on the label, and they're still really cheap.

You are talking about baking POWDER and I am talking about baking SODA, i.e. sodium bicarbonate which should never come with anything else in it. (I've never seen it other than pure SB.)

I have to purchase distilled water too. The store I get it from also sells ceramic countertop jugs with a spout, which you put your jug of water into, and nice wooden stands if you don't have counterspace for the jug. It's like a home cooler only more attractive. Instead of installing the plastic jug the water came in, I got a glass carboy from a home brewing store with the same capacity as the plastic jug. As soon as I get home, I transfer the water to the glass jug and use that in the water stand. It's not perfect, but it minimizes the amount of time the water is in the plastic. The store I get distilled waster from makes it on a regular schedule so it's in plastic two days at the most. I also put a silver coin in the ceramic base to keep any sort of bacterial growth down.

Just being able to drink clean water is a big deal to me, the city i live in has the water fluorinated and chlorinated. What's funny is i was actually born in a city that did not fluoridate the water at all.

Lemon juice is acidic so will not alkalinize distilled water.

I think you might be wrong here Justin. My understanding is that lemon will actually alkalinize water. I know it sounds strange, because lemon itself is acidic.
And I don't have relevant info on hand how exactly it works, but I know that lemon was always used to alklinize water and body.

Check this couple of links http://www.ehow.com/about_5373187_can-water-make-water-alkaline.html
http://www.energiseforlife.com/wordpress/2006/02/10/lemon-water-alkalising-superstar/

If I'm wrong, someone please correct me.

Ozrich, I actually have heard before (don't remember source) that even though a lemon tastes acidic, it is actually basic like other fruit/veg. correct me if i'm wrong.

As I understand it you're right.
Drinking lemon water first thing in the morning is an old remedy for many ills. It alkalinizes the body.

And speaking on distilled water. When my son was in the hospital for leukemia, doctor specifically told us NOT to give him purified (distilled) water. Later I learned why.

ps. just found this http://wiki.answers.com/Q/Is_lemon_acidic_or_alkaline

Lemon is acidic, in it's natural form. But when it is consumed, it turns into an alkaline state.

Yeah I've noticed this too. I've been using distilled water in the gallon plastic jugs to cook in and drink. I also still drink bottled water though. The distilled water tastes quite plastic-y. At least there's no fluoride in it though. I just bought a water distiller online a few hours ago. It comes with a plastic collection container so I'll probably buy a cheap glass jar or pitcher to replace it.

Yeah, I agree too. With the morning shake and supplements I find I'm hardly even hungry at lunchtime. Also, I was about to go check the label on Arm and Hammer baking soda to see about the Aluminum. I knew that baking powders had it in them but it does look like the soda is just sodium bicarbonate.

My understanding is that lemon does have an alkalinizing effect on the body when taken alone or taken in water. The acidity causes the body to release stores of minerals to counteract the acidity so the net effect is alkalinizing. My understanding of the reason for alkalinizing distilled water is that over time drinking or eating anything acidic will deplete the body's stores of minerals and puts extra stress on the body. Because distilled water is acidic, the body has to react to counter the acidity. I'm not entirely sure this is correct, so someone please let me know if I'm misunderstanding this. :)

Thanks anart. I've been drinking distilled water from those plastic containers for years! Yikes. I haven't even had a 'duh' moment yet...I've never noticed any plastic taste even after using the FIR sauna.

Now I'm going to pay more attention and see if I can taste plastic, particularly after the sauna. I think maybe I need to try something different in terms of purified water. Do you mind sharing your solution to the whole distilled water / plastic bottle issue? Maybe I need to look into RO filters or water distillation machines.

Yep. I was thinking of baking powder as the one that often has aluminum. The baking soda I buy does say "aluminum free" on the label, so I searched for information on baking soda and aluminum. There is not much except links to the company that sells the baking soda labeled "aluminum free". I guess stating that the product is aluminum free is a marketing ploy aimed at people who get baking soda and baking powder confused, like me!

These are the baking soda and baking powder I have.

Well, I'm currently using local artesian spring water ( I live in the Rocky Mountains) - but, at some point I'm going to get a house reverse osmosis filter. I think water distillers are a great idea as well - and they tend to be much less expensive then the RO filters.
