In the context of this thread it may be important to remember that there are two paths for the
growth of spirit or soul if you will: the long one and the short one. Now the short one is accellerated growth
which means incarnation and the risk to get stuck due to accumulation of adverse karma.
The individual can repeat the "fall". Then of course it is difficult to untangle oneself and remember oneself.
This may take several lifetimes. Similar to the dynamics of addiction one has first of all to overcome
denial and accept the reality of the situation one finds oneself in. Naturally this can be extremely painfull.
In many cases one has to hit rock bottom to be able or to want to change. Something like the dark night of the soul.
Maybe it would be helpful to use choice instead of free will. In my experience you allways have choice;
to react or not in the simplest case.
These are just some of my thoughts. What I learned from Gurdjeff among many other things is to work with
what is at hand, here and now and not to anticipate. From applying knowledge i. e. by doing one gains experience
which leads to understanding.
