George Floyd's Death, Protests and Riots across the US

This article gives more information on the Stone Mountain demonstration. Although they look shocking, it did turn out to be peaceful. I think its interesting that, they called out the white militia but they where nowhere to be seen! It reminds me of that saying, what if you gave a war and nobody showed up? Probably some where disappointed and others relieved. This still looks serious but not quite so bad. Perhaps not an unusual site for this area, I don't know.

bjorn, Our laws allow this type of gathering as long as its peaceful. If I saw the KKK marching or Neo-Nazi's I would be disgusted and probably angry as well. But, I tell myself, its better to see these people out in the open as apposed to hiding out. And also we need to allow for others to express themselves even when we find their ideas abhorrent otherwise we might find ourselves silenced some day as well, which is happening now of course. I also understand completely what you have said.

John Bankhead, a spokesman for the Stone Mountain Memorial Association, said NFAC's demonstration was peaceful and orderly:

"It's a public park, a state park. We have these protests on both sides of the issue from time to time. We respect people's First Amendment right," Bankhead told WXIA-TV.

The park had just opened after being closed for virus-related issues. Around Saturday afternoon, park officials allowed the group to enter the park from the West Gate. They marched to the lawn area of the park, in view of the confederate memorial carved into granite on Stone Mountain.

"Stone Mountain has long held symbolism for white supremacists. The Ku Klux Klan, a hate group that was formed by Confederate Army veterans and has a history of lynchings and terror against Black people, held its rebirth ceremony atop mountain in 1915 with flaming crosses.
Klansmen still hold occasional gatherings in the shadows of the edifice, albeit now met with protesters behind police tape. Many of those cross-burnings took place on or around July 4," said Reuters.

I’m no expert but a lot of this just looks like fluff to me. Bunch of kids with toys playing pretend. They were escorted by police right?

I mean their gear all looks like cheap stuff from amazon bought in mass last Wednesday. They probably all have amazon prime!
Also I see many of them don’t even know how to handle their weapons.
And some of the firepower they are supposedly carrying, is way to expensive and rare for it to be real. Most of it is probably airsoft guns. Airsoft can look very real now. Especially if you remove the orange tagging.

To me this just looks like fake propaganda to create fear in the “opposing” side. As we know the other side is much more invested in this coming war, both in hardware and with discipline.
I had wondered about this too. Seemed a bit unlikely that all those people could afford AR style rifles but I am no expert on this - and I have noticed that even pellet (air powered) guns are made to look like the real thing anymore....
OTOH, since I have been making an effort to go to the (public) shooting range more often I have seen a LOT of high powered rifles and pistols in the hands of inexperienced shooters & play soldier types. I get a chuckle when they set up targets at rock throwing distance.
I usually shoot clay pigeons but have been brushing up with slugs in case I ever need to take a deer (haven't hunted in decades). FWIW it is a great stress reliever.

Even without the bas-relief, Stone Mountain is a lovely place to visit. There's a beautiful conference center near there, and I go when I can, just to enjoy the nature trails. Were it up to me, I'd suggest more carvings in the massive piece of stone. There is so much more to Southern and Georgia history than The Confederacy. The park/rock would be a good place to tell a lot of important stories. As I write this, I have a premonition of Coca-Cola's logo engraved there. Let's hope not! It's part of Atlanta's story, for sure. Let's stick to humanity-oriented stories.

Requesting feedback:
Should I start a Go Fund Me?
Might such an idea be triggering (in a bad way) to people?
It is hard to be objective. Lat think I want is to cause hurt feelings, even with good intentions.

+20 years ago, I had so many ideas for bringing ALL Southerners together on a number of historically oriented projects. I still think they are good ideas, but these days utterly hopeless as people are so divided. I continue to attend lectures and programs on related subjects, and it looks like there is subject-interest across the board, but these are potentially dangerous times I think.

It's reported that BLM has raised millions of dollars. There could be other sources and funding and assistance that are less visible (e.g., Soros, et al). It's within the realm of possibility that there could be some sort of centralized procurement and distribution — meaning one wouldn't necessarily have to finance their own AR to join the insurrection. I'm not saying that's what actually is happening, or trying to inflame, but there's nothing "organic" about what's going on with the current protests and riots — at least IMO.

Also note that brandishing pellet guns has increasing gotten people killed. It happens with the realistic-looking ones, it happens when they have orange tips. It seems foolish to march around with toys, but that may depend on the reaction one is trying to get, and the risk one takes of getting the wrong reaction.

Yes.
After looking at some of the vids more closely there seemed to be a wide variety of firearms/gear displayed. I would expect more uniformity if these firearms were issued to them but I most certainly could be wrong.

I think its interesting that, they called out the white militia but they where nowhere to be seen!

The first mistake they made was calling it a white militia. The Three Percenters they threatened (their name originating from claims that only three percent of colonists took up arms against Britain in the American revolution.) don’t categorize themselves as white. They are Americans and any American, no matter the color, can stand as one people. This group who represents themselves as black everything is a racist militia that is set on destroying history and becoming a one race power.

The second mistake they made is provoking them because now it’s clear who the true aggressors are. They don’t want war, but will fight when forced to. (Besides, if we leave the leftists to their own devices there is a chance they will simply implode in on themselves)

The third mistake they made is that they filmed it and put it on the internet. Facing evil brings good people together. Now even more people will sign up for the The Three Percenters and other militias that oppose the leftist takeover.

Antifa and allied paramilitary groups only understand fear and hate. They are tyrants. War is inevitable because they desire unlimited control over the lives of others and they will use any means to get that control no matter how destructive.

Good points. But let's not forget, millions of dollars have poured into Antifa and BLM related groups through elitist donors like George Soros and his Open Society Foundation. The radical left is going to start a war because that's exactly what the global elites created them for. If at some point they appear with better equipment and weapons we know who gave it to them.

While it might seem scary to those uninformed and the situation is serious by the looks of it no doubt, I found it funny with those photos of right or left militia members and videos of armament display. Some of them I see do not even have basic physical condition so I do not know how they think they can run which is basic requirement for basic RTR(return fire, take cover and return accurate fire) and bounding and peeling drills. That member of BLM militia that talked with white car driver is even carrying two rifles in his hands. To me it seems majority of them think having only firearms and some basic shooting training think it is enough-serious lack of intelligence. Against more professional and trained force they do not stand a chance.

That's a great point, Ketone Cop and I think we can learn from your account. :flowers:

Although we live in dark and uncertain times we need to get a grip on our thoughts and lower emotions and keep them 'below the neck', so they won't wreak havoc in our daily lives.

Joe posted the following quote in the Negative Emotions, Thoughts And How to Counteract Them thread:

You will find some helpful suggestions as to how to overcome these negative states. Hang in there!

Thanks Miriama. I know that controlling emotions is necessary, and discovering and changing the thoughts that produce lower emotions is paramount. That's why, "The Work". I have times when I am grounded and have no troubles with that, but then when chaos (or even just the potential of it) bubbles up around me I let it uproot me too easily. And last night I was pretty unnerved by all the loud explosions around me, like nothing I had ever heard (well, except New Year's in Germany. They know how to blow things up, too!), and the warnings about what could have happened.

(EDIT - what went down in Sacramento last night:

https://www.kcra.com/article/region...gered-fireworks-dangerous-conditions/33210025 )

Being where I am, living alone with few friends in one of the most negatively polarized areas around, is proving to be quite the crucible for soul growth! I came at the work rather late in the game, but am being presented with quite the "crash course" to get up to speed. I guess I'm thankful! But I am really thankful for this forum, or I'd have no way to gauge how I am doing or what next steps to take to find balance as I am the only person in the area I know on this path. And it seems at this time I need more than pipe breathing, good food, and exercise to find that balance. Having zero human contact isn't helping either.

One thing I know I need to do is spend more time working on carrying a positive attitude, as Joe mentions in your quote. I want to ask: is there a dedicated thread here where people can check in daily and list at least ten things they are grateful for? I have a journal, but if there is a thread here where I can do that, I'd make sure I go there before I post anything else every day. I did a search but didn't find one. Doing that does help to put me in a good "groove". It might be a good place for others to share as well.

I hope that doing this process in such a negatively polarized environment has knock-on positive effects around me, but that's probably just wishful thinking. I sometimes feel though that I am processing not only my own stuff, but also some of the negative atmosphere around me too. I need to identify and separate what's mine from the general malaise and just work on that. And that's been something I've worked on my entire life.

To comment on the "Black Panther" militia group: the consensus I am seeing from posters on various blog forums is that these militias are being allowed to form and demonstrate with the same autonomy given to the BLM and antifa groups by the same government entities that are demanding we sit at home wearing our masks - and most of these figures are liberals or Democrats. But what is also being noted is how the Republicans are talking a big game, but yet are doing nothing to stop any of this. This division in every aspect of society is being allowed by all sides, even those who supposedly sit on the side of objective truth and morality.

More and more people (especially at Zero Hedge) are seeing complicity by every aspect of government in this, especially now that it is being noted that our government is printing money for the bankers to buy up every single thing that exists. America has become a complete fascist corporate oligarchy, where everyone not in the 1% is now hurtling towards sharing the same lowered living standards; and all this happened (or at least accelerated greatly) while COVID and Floyd dominated the news.

This isn't being lost on everyone. If and when the expected backlash against the left occurs, I don't think it will be easily co-opted. Many people are now seeing how governments in total have been complicit in creating all of this chaos, and how many of them are benefiting. I've said as much before, but the tide is rising. The awakening is speeding up, and I personally think it is only a couple "trigger events" from reaching a critical mass where the positive changes will soon occur. "Wait for it!"

Mr. Mccloskey shares his side of the story. The DA in St. Louis is now going to prosecute him for simply defending his family. The 300+ rioters who broke down the gate to acces private property and threaten his life and that of his family will get a free pass. Let’s root for him and his family!

The mob isn't quite done yet.
