How much weight did you lose after starting the low carb diet?

In a year and a half, starting with the USD, I lost 10-12 kg, and still losing :)

I first tried a low carb diet back in 2000. I was very strict with myself and rarely ate more than 20g of carbs a day. In 5 months I lost over 60lbs. I felt really good , but my motivation at that time was fueled by my own vanity. All I wanted was to be thin. I didn't care about my health at all. I slipped back into bad habits and for the past 10 years, it's been a battle to stick to the diet. It was easy for me to cheat and abuse myself when my motivation was so superficial.

Around April of this year, I approached my "diet" in a new light. It was not about being thin, looking good, or wanting acceptance. What I care about now is my health and learning what food is best for our bodies and minds, in a world filled with so much toxic food. The battle now is not me against myself. It's me against the "system". So far I'm down 32lbs and feeling really good.

I think that this is key: it's not about vanity, but about health and survival and optimal living in a pressure cooker world (to borrow a phrase). It really is amazing to see that eating according to mainstream dietary recommendations makes you fat and sick, while switching to a more natural paleo diet (with adjustments for each individual) not only means you are never hungry but you lose weight naturally, your brain works better, you have more energy, and many varied long-term medical conditions clear up.

That's right, and each body type responds in its own way to eventually reach the optimal weight. I'm pretty thin, and no matter what I ate and how much, I never could gain any weight, but after going gluten/dairy-free I gained 2 kilo's, and now with the paleo diet I gained ~3 more. Now I'm around 45, so in a way these changes enables my body to figure out whether I need to gain weight or not, and how much is appropriate for me for the moment being. So as my body is being healed it is more able to utilize what I eat much more efficiently.

Now, even people who don't know about the diet I'm taking have noticed I look a bit 'fuller' than before.

I so agree, Laura. This is the first time I have done low carb from this standpoint of really understanding the bigger picture. My scale is broken thank goodness. I used to be obsessive about weighing several times a day while dieting and I couldn't do it this time even if I wanted to. I have no idea how much I have lost, but sweat pants that were too tight to wear last year are very baggy now!

I've lost 15 kilos but the most interesting is not to lose kilos to look good but to be healthy; I have cured my problems of digestion and pains.

I think Atriedes wins the prize... he's lost over 30 kilos.

the paleo diet is really amazing in every direction !

I realise that I work the best mainly on animal fat and protein. I can't tolerate other stuff very good.
I never get bored of meat , I can simply eat it every day from beginning to the end of the day. and it still like it.

it almost seems like you have to follow the exact opposite of what the mainstream tells you to be healthy !

Same here. I don't see it as a diet, I see it as "food that doesn't make me sick". I still have some sugary treats every now and then, but considerably less than before. Carbs, specially sugar, make me feel dizzy and my stomach feels like it's upside down or something, even in small dosis. In larger dosis, I get nasty heartburns.

Can't say how much I lose because I'm pregnant ;D

After adopting the paleo diet/lifestyle I've lost 47 lbs. Though what really fascinates me and what has made the diet stick is the realization and knowledge of where our food actually comes from. From a spiritual aspect nothing could be more true than, We are what we eat

I've shed 30 lbs so far.
Hope to do another 30 in the next few months.

My mind is more sharp and I have more energy.

Wow! That's excellent. I'm so happy for him. :headbanger:

Yeah, that's really great! 30 kilos is about 66 pounds, wow!

I've been a bit underweight, but seem to be gaining some weight in the form of muscle mass. So as we've seen, the adjusting of weight toward the ideal goes both ways. :)

Congratulations to Atriedes!

My weight was 72-73 kg most of my adult life with a maximum of 77 kg during a period of time (maybe due to some drugs?). My height is 1.72 m (5' 8")
After 2 years of LCD I'm now under 69 kg, approaching my weight when I was around 20!
When I do my workout in the morning I'm happy to see my muscles better than ever. :)
