In this case: Muslims hate our freedoms and love terrorism AND we have an illegal immigration problem AND there's an assault on ordinary white people. Et voilà: the story plugs into this structure, and at the infamous Mexican border to boot!

Now, we all have to use such narrative structures to look at the world, but the art is in learning to keep multiple ones in mind without freaking out, even if they somewhat contradict each other, and then to discern when it's appropriate to apply which. This makes it much easier to navigate the onslaught of information.

I meant that McGregor was pretty pro Israel last time I heard him, which was well before the recent happenings. From what he said (if I remember correctly) he was at one point pretty deeply involved in "security" issues in Israel itself with regard to "terrorists" or something. When I heard him speak about it back then, I came away with the feeling that his pretty pro Israel, which is pretty deeply ingrained and probably fueled by a lot of Propaganda he heard over the years. At least then, he had a pretty mainstream view on Israel.

This incredibly simple structured thinking actually makes me angry sometimes. Of course I try to stay in my center but especially in Germany this manipulation is so obvious that it seems unnatural not to be able to see it. Or to want to. This black and white thinking or pigeonholing has taken on unbelievable traits in German media since Corona. And I really ask myself: How naive, comfortable and stupid are many Germans that they can no longer master simple connections, logical conclusions and minimal questioning. Given the level of bestiality the PTB (especially in Israel) are infamous for, I wouldn’t but it past them to actually having killed that girl themselves with the gruesome methods they are ascribing to „Hamas“.

In fact, I wouldn’t be surprised if most if not all of the gruesome deeds circulated by Israel as „Hamas did that“ via words, pictures and videos (by people like Netanyahu, for example) are actually things they themselves have done/ordered on purpose and then they blame Hamas/Palestinians for it.

Also, isn’t that the same german girl that was initially widely propagated to have been killed at the „piece party“, with the „evidence“ presented globally, that she was seen on a picture dead with broken legs? Which later turned out not to be her, and then still later, it was revealed that she is still alive in Gaza as a hostage?

"Civilian" is one of those words now diluted and even debased by misuse. As with other such words, dictionaries update their definitions to legitimize popular misuse. It also has different legal meanings depending on context (examples: national laws, International Humanitarian Law, Geneva Convention). So, it's a good word to use if wanting to deceive an audience, which is probably what is being done in this case.

Americans use the phrase, "police and civilians," but the original intent in the USA was to have a civilian police force. Still, even lawyers and police use that phrase. Some dictionaries say one must be non-active military, police, or even firefighter to be "civilian." A secondary dictionary definition says a civilian is a non-government employee (so your local librarian is not a civilian). Yet, the US Department of Defense Police force (how much more "government" can you get?) is defined as "uniformed civilian police officers." The Office of Naval Intelligence Police force is defined as a "civilian law enforcement agency." See what I mean?

Regarding war, the Geneva Convention has a complicated legal definition of civilian but it relates mostly to whether someone is a combatant. However, a civilian in war can still be active in conflict. I avoid the word.
