There is this recent news: Hundreds of pagers exploded simultaneously in Lebanon: “The Lebanese Ministry of Health has announced that all citizens with pagers should discard them immediately. There are already more than 500 casualties, both injured and dead, from the explosions. The pagers are used in the country by members of the Shiite militia Hezbollah. The Israeli military managed to hack into the devices and cause them to detonate”

Other sources say that more than 1200 people were injured, including Iran ambassador in Lebanon.

Obviously right now there are only rumors, but everyone is pretty clear that Israel is to blame, even if there are no official statements.

Some rumors say that supposedly Hezbollah officers only recently received from their bosses brand new pagers.

Another possiblity (if there was no physical tempering of the pagers) that these pagers contained or received some sort of mark that was triggered by a satellite or something similar. Maybe it was another opportunity to experiment with space based weapons.

Expert Igor Bederov on the possible causes of the pagers explosion:

“The version about the explosion of the pagers by means of a hacker attack by Israel's special services is worth considering. I envision roughly the following scenario: first the attackers disabled or blocked the controller, which is responsible for the emergency shutdown of the battery in case of overheating, and then initiated a high load on the processor. High load on the processor gives a high load on the battery, the battery overheats, and an explosion occurs,” the expert explained.

At the same time, he added that pagers have rather primitive software, so it is easier to influence it from the outside than the operating systems of smartphones. In addition, Bederov noted, pagers most likely use old-generation lithium-polymer batteries, which are known for their lower reliability compared to modern lithium-ion batteries.

“I doubt, however, that blowing up a pager would be enough to cause traumatic amputation of fingers and hands, much less the injuries to others around the victim reported by the media. This raises the question of whether the militants used pagers and whether they were modified by someone beforehand,” the expert added.

Also, according to Bederov, the fact that users did not notice the overheating of the devices makes one doubt the veracity of the version about the explosion of pagers through a cyberattack. According to the expert, battery overheating is not an instantaneous process.

Hezbollah released a couple of statements, pointing the finger firmly at Israel for the pager 'bombings' or induced battery fires depending on who you listen to. I'm leaning towards the former but it's early days. The videos from hospitals in Beirut are not for the faint hearted, as you would imagine there are many serious injuries to hands and faces.

The pagers used in the Lebanon bombings were manufactured in Europe, according to Xu Ching-Kuang, founder of Gold Apollo. According to him, they were produced by a company that had the right to use the brand of the Taiwanese firm.

Think about smartphones, portable PC, electric cars, ... list is long.
I'm thinking also about the batteries i bought for the solar installation in my mother's home, 19kw on 6 batteries, a nice potential bomb . I had already in mind the danger if these batteries would catch fire, as i put the 6 of them in the middle of the cave's house in a rack ...

I don't know of any way to make any normal battery explode so reliably in such a catastrophic way. My guess is the rumors of inserted explosive material is correct. IOW, the devices were specifically designed to kill Hezbollah peeps.

One report says the beepers beeped at the moment of attack, meaning most people would be holding them close to their face... It's just diabolically EVIL.

And as an added bonus, now everyone who heard the news is utterly terrified of all their mobile devices. It's a win-win for Mossad.

Exactly. It seems they purposefully sent a specifically timed message. Even that message was most probably gleefully concocted to let them know what they were reading telling them they were now going to be horrifically maimed, or to that effect.
That the message was sent to ensure everyone was reading it at the time. Thus their pagers were as close to their face as possible to read the text thus cause the maximum injuries possible to face hands and eyesight. Among others.
What is also increasingly stomach churning is their genuine filmed and publicised celebrations of the injuries and deaths that they had just caused. And the 'success' of their beyond evil plans.
I could not sleep at all last night. I was up following everything the whole night in total disgust of the depravity and solidarity for the 1000s of innocent victims.

I hope you are right, but it remains, at least I think, possible to provoke a short-circuit in a device, and when you see how well batteries burn nowodays, i wonder what kind of output/effect one could produce with this technology.

I suppose that some devices did not explode for custom reasons and that some people will dismantle some to verify, we may know soon.
