I hope this thread is the right one. Just a heads up for Dutchies. Jordan Peterson will give a keynote speech in Rijswijk, near The Hague, on January 19.

For more information see: https://nl.sott.net/article/4733-Grootdenker-Jordan-Peterson-komt-naar-Nederland-Een-voorproefje

Thanks, Mariama!

I'll be going to the event, and I was wondering if anyone has an idea of which questions to ask or what kind of information to give or topic to discuss if the opportunity arises that I can talk to him. There is also the possibility to send an email with questions or suggestions to the organizers of the event and they will send them to Jordan Peterson. JP encourages people to send him questions or suggestions. Any ideas? Thank you!

Yes thank you, I would to ask the following question below him myself, since it’s also personal. But since you are going.

Jordan Peterson - A Sad Story About Living With OCD

https://youtu.be/3lvzQWM8BKY

He only talks in the video about the 'disgust' element. And it's true that people can wash their hand till their hands bleed. But the fear (OCD) can also be triggered by other factors, (Not just the disgust element) and because of that fear, people turn to obsessive rituals. (Like handwashing) So my question is:

Isn't OCD just a way of trying to dissociate because of a high level of stress and fear through rituals, whether in thinking or behavior. In other words isn't OCD just a coping mechanism to deal with extreme fear. Like PTSD, only without the induced trauma?

And my second question is: Why can it be so difficult do differentiate between irrational fears and rational fears? Since most people seem to be hardwired to know what rational fear is.

But perhaps it's to vague of a question, and maybe he already shared his view on it in that video. Maybe others have better questions.

I'll think the question over, over the course of this week.

I was reading up on the NeuroFeedback and Electroencephalography thread, and I would be curious as to what his thoughts were on this as a treatment option. Just a thought, FWIW.

Edit: just saw Mariama's post that his topic will be on identity and immigration, so perhaps it's not the right forum to ask the above
Bjorn, his talk will be "centered on issues of identity and immigration"
Oh sorry, never mind.

Thank you all for your suggestions and info! :) I could also ask about the ones not related to the main topic of the event if an opportunity arises that I can speak to him. Will see!

A very entertaining video of an interview with JP and Cathy Newman of UK's Channel 4 News (30 minutes)...

Thanx for the video Timótheos

JP had so much patience while she did not understand him at all and hear not a word what he said spending half of the time trying to put words in his mouth and rest of the time trying to dominate him.

I just watched this today and thoroughly enjoyed the interview. She really thought she had him so many times, but she was out of her league to say the least. And to his credit, he was so good natured about the whole thing. The comments were indeed equally entertaining :)

Absolutely loved the interview. It took me about five seconds or so hovering over the mouse button before I could bring myself to click and watch because I knew how the interviewer was going to be with him...

But what JP does in the interview is to demonstrate the power of truth and thought, knowledge, study, composure. Knowing yourself, knowing your enemy.

Just sets a wonderful example of how to Be and how to Do.

She really liked twisting those words around. I guess she's so used to it now it's second nature to her. Peterson was great at deconstructing her lies/sacred cows.

Me too, thanks for sharing! Jordan Peterson gave amazing example of how to handle a petty tyrant!

Loved it - thanks for sharing, Timótheos! She kept trying to bait him and he simply wouldn't bite - never lost his composure and in fact seemed to enjoy himself. It was a delight to watch.

Gah, that was awful. Dr. Peterson was (as one commenter put it) 'a saint' for patiently dragging her words out of his mouth over and over and attempting to put the interview on a rational foundation. But he never gave up, no matter how many strawmen she through at him. And when her brain finally gridlocked and something got through, he was gracious even though he joked a little ("Gotcha!")

I felt like cheering.

Same here with the cheering.

Yup. He's an intellectual stalker. Loved this and all the other videos I seen that showcase Dr. Peterson.
