Worldwide Human Rights Day Rallies for Assange​

Rallies for Julian Assange in front of British embassies and consulates from Rome to New York and other cities around the world will be held on Saturday, Human Rights Day.
A rally is planned for 1 pm EST in front of the British consulate and U.N. mission at Second Avenue, between 47th and 48th Streets in New York. Among the speakers will be rock legend Roger Waters; comic and activist Randy Credico; radio host Garland Nixon; lawyer Margaret Kuntsler; Ben Cohen, activist of Ben & Jerry’s; journalist Max Blumenthal and CN Editor Joe Lauria.

i read the chris hedges report and comments. what a shame is being done to assange. assange revealed criminal practices of so called governments, of which governments should be ashamed if they have any decency left. the courage of assange is formidable. he deserves a nobel peace prize to compensate for the infame prize awarded to obama for no reason at all.

what the early apple chief said about porn on the net remains valid: do/think no evil. assange must become free and deserves protection like rushdie.

Assange's extradition is delayed, the British courts have given the United States a period of 3 weeks to present new guarantees on certain appeals made by him, such as respect for the first amendment of the Constitution, that he does not suffer prejudice due to his nationality and not be sentenced to death... in any case, extradition could occur at some point.

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange will not be immediately extradited to the U.S., British court rules

WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange on Tuesday was granted permission by a U.K. court to appeal his extradition to the U.S., where he is wanted on spying charges.

Assange will therefore not be extradited immediately, the court said.
The ruling from the Royal Courts of Justice in London means Assange will have the opportunity to pursue a new hearing, unless the U.S. provides “satisfactory assurances” on certain aspects that would address his grounds of appeal.

The court said it would give the U.S. three weeks to give assurances that Assange is permitted to rely on the First Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, that he is not prejudiced at trial by reason of his nationality, that he is afforded the same First Amendment protections as a U.S. citizen and that he would not be subject to the death penalty.

An appeal hearing will be granted if those assurances are not given. A further hearing on May 20 will determine whether the assurances provided are satisfactory, the court said.
