The Turkish military have reportedly broken into the headquarters of state broadcasters Anadolu and TRT. Photos posted on social media show soldiers inside the offices.

Re: Shooting heard in Ankara - Military Coup?

According to Russians, it seems that it is group of still unknown officers and not top brass, the Turkish army chief of staff is also under their "custody". They seem to issued the statement that they did that because of the corruptions in the government. The curfew hour is to be on all Turkish territory. The only part of the Turkish government which seem to be working in this moment is Foreign affairs department which issues statements with no proof.

Re: Shooting heard in Ankara - Military Coup?

Erdogan is giving statement by Skype (from somewhere). Officers gave the statement that they want to back Turkey in constitutional frames and to restore the human rights and the law in Turkey

Турецкие военные назвали цель захвата власти

Они намерены восстановить конституционный порядок и соблюдение прав человека в Турции.

It seems that Erdogan's people is starting to get on the streets and to protest.

If this coup is in anyway genuine. How about sentencing all those in Turkish leadership that aided the proxy war in Syria. Expose Erdogan role in ISIS!! They have the floor now. Or do most Turks don't believe in this reality? I don't know.

[quote author= Eboard10]Yes, that and also the fact that Turkey started talking to the Syrian government is likely driving these events. The recent change in stance by Turkey must have not gone down well with the US and Israel.

Erdogan has been digging his own grave at both sides of the fence for a while. The PTB are not satisfied with him and a significant amount of the Turkish population wants him gone. Both for completely different reasons ofcourse.

I don't want to be all to pessimistic about it. But coups in this world usually are US controlled.

If Turkey's stand on Russia and Syria will turn out more hostile than ever. We know enough, the war in Syria will evolve in something else entirely.

I was thinking about that just now, Trukey under new management and France under renewed justifications could truly turn Syria's progress upside down and send it back to the Stone Age. A dog fight I'm not sure Rusia would meet head on, or maybe they foresaw this and that's why some of these s-300 (I think those are the ones) systems were provided to Syrians so long ago.

What an intense week this has been.

RT is on time now, in English. Anyway if it isn't over by now, it is all up to which side officers will choose.

If that is true, it shows how little control the government and military top brass have on their own army, and how easily they can be manipulated by external powers.

It definitely gives more clarity to how the shooting down of the Russian aircraft was being directed by outside forces.

Yes indeed, without the Top-Brass it's up to the officers to decide. This can transform in something horrible. Those who committed the coup are in control of Ankara now. The military across the country is not and have to pledge their alliance in the hours to come. Which sides has remained to be seen.

I am listening to Russia 24 right now, and they interview one expert that says that Erdogan's call to civilians to come out to the streets and protest means that he has no control over the situation.

They also now report that military planes and helicopters fired on police in Ankara. That police force is with Erdogan, and military, or at least some parts of it are behind the coup.

If you know Russian, you can watch it here.

Re: Shooting heard in Ankara - Military Coup?

I think Erdogan knew that something was coming and that is WHY he was making nice with Russia. His problems with the EU, putting NATO on the spot, not being able to fulfill DC's demands because he was such a jerk and wanted money, money, money, so they planned the coup and are backing the military against him. He's in his holiday spot so he can bug out quickly. Prolly to Russia.

That France closed up their shop a couple days ago suggests they knew what was up. http://www.aljazeera.com/news/2016/07/france-closes-missions-turkey-security-fears-160713131750838.html Plus, Germany was threatening to pull out their military.

US/NATO thought they could control Erdogan and he just got too big for his britches so he's getting a take-down.

BREAKING: @RT_Erdogan blames Gulenist network, calls on public to fight in public squares http://sptnkne.ws/bFJ4

Who is deluded enough to fight and die for his greed.

Local reports indicate @RT_Erdogan is trying 2 leave #Turkey via #AtaturkAirport http://sptnkne.ws/bFJe #TurkeyCoup

While he is trying to flee the country? Anyhow if you're calling for the public to fight your wars against the military, you lost control.

And what a coward. Compare that to Assad who made clear he would die in Syria and stay put at a time when the terrorists where winning the war.

Re: Shooting heard in Ankara - Military Coup?

A reporter on CNN just made a good point about the strategic importance of the Bosphorus strait to Russia, how it's key to move their Black Sea fleet from Crimea to the Mediterranean Sea and the Syrian coast. If the new Turkish government decided to block the strait, tensions with Russia would escalate even further. This doesn't look good. :(

Erdogan Blames Gulenist Network, Calls on Public to Fight in Public Squares

Despite losing control of the government, Erdogan remained defiant declaring that those responsible for the attack would face a heavy price and that the coup would be stopped in a "short time."

"It is know that there was a coup attempt," said Erdogan. "I'm waiting for all of our people on the streets and squares. Together we will give an adequate response. It is know that this attempted coup was led by the "Parallel Structure." The instigators of the coup will suffer severe punishment and will pay dearly for it."

"Parallel Structure" is a reference to followers of Fethullah Gulen, also known as Gulenists, a US-based Muslim cleric who has repeatedly been accused of attempting to foment an uprising against the Turkish government.
