Ketogenic Diet - Powerful Dietary Strategy for Certain Conditions

Re: Weird Dizziness thing on the Keto-Diet?

To prevent dehydration, consume water before you feel thirsty.
The body loses fluid urine, feces, breath and perspiration, which in normal conditions is up to 2.5 liters per day.
With drinking water is very important and the amount of salt you eat. The water, salt and potassium together maintain the amount of water in the body. The water must reach the interior of cells, to cleanse and help the metabolism. When the water comes into the cell binds to the cell and potassium indicates the amount of potassium that is located in the cell.
The equilibrium relationship of salt and water in the body is essential for good health.
Salt is necessary for the production of the electrolyte in all body cells.
Salt is essential for all communication and information processes in the nerve site.
Salt is essential to prevent muscle spasms.
The salt helps the mucus from the lungs, and the purification of a stuffy nose and sinuses.
The salt prevents clogging of blood vessels and the appearance of varicose veins and capillaries.
Sol is an absolute necessity for the construction of the bone marrow (Osteoporosis is a sign that the body is too little water and salt).
Salt is necessary for the secretion of excess acid from the cells. If the body does not have enough salt, the body becomes acidic. Acidic conditions are favorable for the body inflammation and various forms of degradation.
The salt helps the kidneys to get rid of acidity and toxic substances secreted in the urine.
Salt is necessary for healing of sensory and mental disorders.

I asked you whether you are in the last month was sick (fever, flu) because increased perspiration lose electrolytes.
Lost sweat necessarily be replaced, reducing the amount of water in the body is reduced and the secretion of waste substances. Similarly, the body needs electrolytes present in body fluids and cells. Loss of large amounts of water and electrolytes from the body leads to dehydration of the body.

In my younger days, when I was doing sports, coach taught us about the importance of body fluids.
Every day we had to drink at least 3 liters of water. Whether you eat enough soup?

Thanks everybody, I will take up these suggestions for now, then I'll follow this topic up with greater attention and detail in due time. Meanwhile, does anyone have any reading recommendations that may help me to understand this phenomenon?

Another great resource is "The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living" by Volek and Phinney. They review the science behind good hydration and mineral replenishment. Highly recommended!

Re: Weird Dizziness thing on the Keto-Diet?

Hi Robin. Before going Keto I experienced what you described and the info I found were symptoms of vertigo. I went to a nose, throat, ear specialist the first time I had symptoms, who performed the Eply maneuver. The symptoms completely went away. He explained that crystals form on the fibers in the inner ear and can break off creating a bit of "dust" that floats around the inner ear causing vertigo. I've done the Eply Maneuver at home with the help of a friend and it stops all symptoms. For some reason I found I cannot sleep on my left side, waking up with vertigo.

Here's a video showing how it's done: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7ZgUx9G0uEs

I don't know if what you have is the same, but sounds similar. I hope you feel better. N2F

Re: Weird Dizziness thing on the Keto-Diet?

I've also suffered from a few bouts of vertigo since 2012. Recently, I found a new maneuver (the half somersault) that worked like a charm. I don't do well with Epley for some reason. http://denver.cbslocal.com/2012/04/23/colorado-doctor-finds-way-to-treat-common-vertigo/

There is also the Brandt-Daroff exercise that is very gentle if you can't tolerate the other maneuvers. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CTZfIv165sY

I hope you find relief. Been there and spun that. :)

Re: Weird Dizziness thing on the Keto-Diet?

I've been drinking salt water for the last couple of days (one in the morning upon waking, and one at night), and it looks like the problem is history. Thanks again to everybody, much appreciated.

Re: Ketogenic Diet - Path To Transformation?

I've been discussing diet with others and one person claims that no studies have shown that a high-fat diet reverses heart disease. He claims ONLY a low-fat diet has been proven to reverse heart disease and then presented this study:

http://jama.jamanetwork.com/article.aspx?articleid=188274

Does this have any validity to it or am I missing something

First, the author's name rings a bell, Dean Ornish. I think it was in the "Big Fat Surprise" book by Nina Teicholz. I searched and found the following:

Critique of Dean Ornish Op-ed
https://thebigfatsurprise.com/critique-dean-ornish-op-ed/

I did a search on Dean Ornish in my kindle copy of "The Big Fat Suprise" and it has 93 results. Now I remember!

I read the book well over an year ago, but I'm pretty sure most of his research and this precise study quoted is analyzed in the book. Teicholz interviewed his coworkers and probably Ornish himself.

The analysis of this study begins in location 2467 and unfortunately, I cannot copy and paste here. This science is highly ponerized with little "science" going on behind it. Here are a few concepts:

Dean Ornish is the most influential diet doctor of the past 30 years. Ornish was promoting a near vegetarian diet since the 1980s.

Ornish study has never been replicated by independent researchers. Also notice that the number of patients is really small. It was anomalous enough that the paper got published in JAMA with such a small number of patients.

While Ornish was reporting a 300% improvement in blood flow, other researchers of the same study said it was 15%. You get the idea of the anomalies. There were also many other factors involved and not necessarily a low fat diet. How can he be so certain it was not the exercise? And so forth.

I highly suggest people read "The Big Fat Suprise" by Nina Teicholz because it is an easy reading and it goes to show how completely ponerized science really is. It is also a case study of several pathological personalities (not only Ornish himself) and how they influenced the way the entire world eats. It is an exercise of deponerization. It is really a must read.

Re: Ketogenic Diet - Path To Transformation?

Thank you Gaby for clearing that up.

Lately I've been (inadvertently) getting into debates with vegans. At first I'm unaware that they are vegans, but I very quickly realize once the same arguments pop up.

Also, a good friend of mine is a nurse, she assists heart surgeons with operations. I brought up the topic of high-fat, low-carb diets as I felt it should be suggested to patients and she began to get a little defensive. She said that next time she was on her break she would ask the surgeons if they saw any merit in a low-carb diet.
Well, they simply laughed at the suggestion! How is it possible that I know more about a healthy diet than doctors that are supposed to be saving people's lives.

Re: Ketogenic Diet - Path To Transformation?

A recent article carried on SOTT:

Seems the authorities are quietly admitting that it was all nonsense to begin with.

Yes, that is right. Ignorance, self-denial, a system that is designed for profits. It is a really bad combination of corruption of science, a ponerized system and their servants who have Stockholm syndrome and are unaware.

Perhaps you can give them a copy of The Big Fat Surprise. Maybe someone will really appreciate it?

Re: Ketogenic Diet - Path To Transformation?

I was on keto diet for two months, lost 6kg and really lost any feeling for food. I couldn't eat more fat because I still feel disgust by fat. So, I'm back on paleo diet.

I had this problem with pain in the center of my body, somewhere between stomach and liver. I have read on forum that little bit of vinegar with water helps, so I tried and now I'm feeling really fine. Thank you for advice.
Also, it is not good for me to eat after 6 p.m., but if I eat bacon I don't have problems at all.

I'm very thankful for all this informations that you gave me because I really feeling much better with this type of food. I have much energy, better thinking, clearly and what is more important for me, I'm feeling more conscious.

Re: Ketogenic Diet - Path To Transformation?

Recently i have some health detox issues and i had to do a blood test. When i get the results , my lipid status was " unbelievable" like my doctor said and it must be treated urgently with medications. He prescribed me a few statins, my family panicked( me too in the moment) . HDL was a very low, LDL skyrocketing and Triglycerides also very high.

Total Lipids 16.1g/L [ 5.0 - 10.0]
Triglycerides 3.14 mmol/L [ up to 2.0 ]
Total Cholesterol 12.6 mmol/L [ up to 5.7 ]
HDL - 0.68 mmol/L [ 0.9 - 2.0]
LDL - 9.9 mmol/L [ up to 3.9]

The imporatn thing was that i was on full keto diet for about 2 months. Before that i was gluten free for about 3 years and sugar free for about 10 years. So how was that possible. :halo:
While i was on a full keto diet for the last 2 months my body weight decreased from 81.5 Kg to 77Kg, and in the moment and the only carbs that i ingest is a small amount of non starchy vegetable once a day.

So all that mobilized fat was used as a fuel for my body. In this phase when my body is trying to use only fats for fuel all lipid parameters can go wild.
_http://www.wheatbellyblog.com/2012/06/i-lost-weight-and-my-cholesterol-went-up/ said:
When you lose weight, you are mobilizing energy stored as fat. That fat is mobilized as fatty acids and triglycerides into the bloodstream. 10 pounds lost, for instance, means the equivalent of 35,000 calories of fat released into the bloodstream.

These fatty acids are not alone. They interact with the other elements in the bloodstream. In particular, this flood of fatty acids:

—Block insulin–and thereby increase blood sugar. A non-diabetic can even become transiently diabetic during weight loss.
—Increase triglycerides–A starting triglyceride level of, say, 120 mg/dl, can increase to 180 mg/dl during active weight loss. (Triglycerides contain fatty acids.)
—Decreased HDL–Excess fatty acids and triglycerides modify HDL particles, causing their degradation and elimination. A starting HDL of 45 mg/dl can drop to 28 mg/dl, for example.
—LDL measures go haywire–The conventional calculated LDL cholesterol, or even generally superior measures like apoprotein B or NMR LDL particle number, can go in any direction rather unpredictably: They can go up, down, or sideways. Likewise, the (miserably useless) total cholesterol value can go up, down, or sideways.
—Increased blood pressure–This is likely due to the enhanced artery constriction that occurs due to increased endothelial dysfunction, i.e., dysfunction of the normal relaxation mechanisms of arteries.

The key is to recognize these phenomena as nothing more than part of weight loss and the inevitable mobilization of fatty acids into the bloodstream. Accordingly, decisions should not be made based on these values, since they are transient. Your doctor will likely try to push hypertension medication, statin drugs, fibrate drugs, diabetes drugs . . . all for a transient effect. Is there a way to not experience these changes? Sure: liposuction. To my knowledge, there is no way short of extracting fat with a trocar to avoid these changes.

As a practical matter, avoid having blood drawn until weight has plateaued for at least 4 weeks and these changes are allowed to reverse. Only then will you know what you have achieved in your wheat-free adventure.

So this is what happened to me and i was on iodine protocol in the same time so things went little too fast for me.
This is the exact description of my " unbelievable " blood test.

Also some explanation about this situation can be found here

Re: Ketogenic Diet - Path To Transformation?

I have lost 95 pounds since we switched over to a ketagenic diet. I now weigh 125-130 lbs depending on the day of the week. That's appropriate for my petite 5'4" height. Before switching we ate no "junk" food. In fact, we raised or grew most of our own food then too. I don't follow the diet perfectly. There are a few no-no's in there....I love my coffee. But I no longer sweeten it and just put a dab of full fat cream in it. I used to drink it sweetened and with milk. I wish I could say I feel great right now, but I've run into complications....I have chronic EBV. I've had an active mononucleosis infection three times in my life and since starting this, the chronic EBV has moved into feeling like full fledged mono again. So I have to figure out what adjustments I need. I know I need to find a solid consistent source of a high amount of zinc....the supplements I used to take now make me sick. I special ordered them from a source that says they don't have any type of ingredients that would cause me problems but I know that's not true. If ANY grain or grain by-product is in a food we buy...I have an immediate reaction to it now. I can't go back to eating the way way we used to. I'm completely intolerant of those foods now.
