'Missing 411', by David Paulides: Tracking unusual missing persons cases

@Elisasheva I don’t know what your library system is like but you could see if there are any copies at a library by chance. I know that’s a long shot but someone may have donated one.

IMO you don’t really need any of his books to get the information. 90% of the cases he has researched he goes in depth about on his YouTube channel or in his movies which are on Amazon. The books are pretty redundant if you are looking for different content.

If there are cases you’ve listened to on YouTube and want to use them as a reference you could just ask him what books they are in and reference them that way too. And he will often say “this case is in my book ….” when he is reviewing something on his channel.

I doubt that shipping cost goes to him, it rather goes to shipping companies 🤷‍♂️ but I may be wrong. Besides, 68 dollars for a regular polish person (= 266 złotych) is, well, a lot. For shipping only - too much.
He has to pay for shipping, so you can have his book. So you have to pay his shipping costs, or do you think he should eat his shipping costs and pay for you?

Of course not, I was only referring to you calling it a "donation". Shipping from US is not always so expensive, btw.

Thank you guys for all replies, for now I found online versions on some sites but I don't want to take advantage of someone's work so I'll contact David, tell him about my plans and buy books from him later anyway.

Yes, I've gathered materials such as interviews with him, documentaries, podcasts etc, but ofc I want to have his books as a reference. Too bad some of the interviews mentioned in this thread are deleted from YouTube - for example this one: David Paulides in fascinating lecture: Bigfoot DNA research and missing people
Idk if it's possible to find it somewhere else.

Ah, I've picked difficult topic which requires a lot of data analysis, but I hope that I will be able to create a useful, pleasant-looking compendium of knowledge about mysterious disappearances, so that people can have easy access to information about it.

Too bad some of the interviews mentioned in this thread are deleted from YouTube
In one of his videos he said he's moving to Rumble as he is frustrated with YT where apparently he is targeted, that people report being unsubscribed without knowing and that he is loosing about 10% subscriptions monthly. You might find on Rumble what you're looking for.

Thanks @hlat for pointing out that it is his cost of shipping actually, I didn't give it thought. Still, I probably give it pass at the moment hundred dollars for book seems excessive even as I'd like to support his work. There will be some other way I guess.

In the following video of Mr. Ballen he relates that a Chinese citizen went missing in 1977 and was found alive hundreds of kilometres away from his home and this happened to him several times.

At one point during one of his abductions he was taken into a military base by two men in black (? or what were they?), which left the military completely baffled as they didn't understand how he got in there in the first place! Not only that, these two creatures also flew him (on their wings or so the abducted man said) to several cities in China spread over I don't know how many kilometres. Later on he could tell the authorities what the weather had been like and other details.

Subsequently, the Chinese authorities gave him a lie-detector test which he passed. Apparently, it became a very well-known case in China (and elsewhere?), but it ruined the poor man's life as some people didn't want anything to do with him anymore after his three abductions.

So, is the Chinese government aware of paranormal phenomena?

I wouldn't go as far as saying that the Chinese government has 'confirmed' the paranormal:

This one is 'close to home' for us. A couple who run a bakery in a town about 20 mins' drive from us went missing on March 16th while hiking on the Portuguese island of Madeira. They join 4 other mysterious disappearances on that island in just the last 3 years:

Search for missing French couple in Madeira on hold again

By Natasha Don - 27th March 2024 - Portugal Resident

The search for missing tourist couple Laurent and Véronique Blond on the north coast of the island of Madeira has been suspended since Tuesday due to bad weather, the public security police service (PSP) said today – adding that the operation could soon be called off for good.

“At the moment, weather conditions don’t allow us to continue the search. It has been suspended. We are working on information and, depending on whether we have new information, we will decide whether or not to resume the search” explained Commissioner João Góis, speaking to journalists in Funchal.

Góis said that if the operation is resumed, the perimeter of the investigation will be widened, as the area closest to where the tourists were staying, in Fajã da Areia, in the parish and district of São Vicente, has already been ” thoroughly searched more than once”.

“On Monday, we searched again, because the weather conditions allowed it. We went out with our search, rescue and mountain rescue brigade and we also had the support of the Civil Protection and National Republican Guard drone teams,” he said.

João Góis reiterated that “the possibility of not resuming the search” is now on the table if there is “no more evidence, no more information”.

The tourists, both French, from a town near Toulouse, were on holiday in Madeira with their daughter Johanna, all of them staying in short-term rental accommodation.

The alert of their disappearance was raised by the couple’s daughter, on the afternoon of Saturday March 16.

As Lusa’s report today states: “The holidaymakers disappeared without a trace”.

It is yet another mystery for the island that has now had SIX foreign holidaymakers ‘disappear without a trace’ in the space of roughly three years.

Not one clue has been found pointing to what might have happened to British fell runner Darren Kay, Polish mountain trail runner Michel Kozek or hikers Jascha Paul Hardenberg (German) and later Benoit Way (French). And now this couple too, who run a bakery in Beaumont-de-Lomagne, appear to have literally vanished into thin air.

There has, at one point in this latest case, been the mention of ‘possible crime’ being involved. But it was only a passing mention, and appears to have alluded to the possibility that the couple may have been considering suicide. This possibility was later discounted.

Lusa concludes its report, saying: “the search operation is being coordinated by the Madeira Regional Public Security Police Command and also involves the Judicial Police (PJ), the National Republican Guard (GNR), the Madeira Operational Command, the Regional Civil Protection Service, SANAS and the National Maritime Authority”.
Paulides did a video on the cases of Kay, Kozek and Hardenberg in December 2022 (begins at 24:30):

Some of the remains of Emile Soleil have been found.. :-( More about the case see here. David Paulides also mentioned his disappearance.

Ramblers discovered the bones of two-year-old Émile Soleil close to the isolated family home from where he went missing last year. A source told MailOnline that only part of the body was found, with some bones and the skull being recovered.

While a key investigating source said Émile's remains were found in countryside, some two miles away from the hamlet, its Mayor said they were discovered within its boundaries.

François Balique told Le Figaro newspaper that they were found 'on a path between the Church and Chapel' of the village, without specifying further.

Vernet is made up of Haut-Vernet (High Vernet) and Bas-Vernet (Lower-Vernet) and there is a Saint Pancras Chapel, as well as two Roman Catholic churches - Saint Martin's in Haut Vernet and Saint Martha's Bas-Vernet.

Mr Balique said the area where Émile's skull and bones were found had previously 'been thoroughly searched by gendarmes,' suggesting they had since been moved back into the village.

There was another case of a 15 year old French boy that disappeared and whose bones were found close to his home that Le Figaro refers to:
An area examined by the dogs

Finally, several years later, a new investigating judge orders a new search in certain areas that could have been little studied. Not far from Lucas's house, at the top of the "Yellow Mas", on the very territory of the village, firefighters rappel down a cliff. This had not been the subject of a thorough investigation, being "almost impossible to access", the prosecutor had specified. The parents' lawyer had informed that the area had been examined by dogs, specified France Bleu at the time.

Finally, a backpack, a laptop and bones are found there. DNA tests confirm that these are the remains of the teenager. The phone also corresponds to that of Lucas Tronche. "The configuration of the terrain can make it possible to envisage an accidental fall," the prosecutor then mentioned, especially since the teenager knew the place well, going there regularly with his father.

Added: According to a Dutch article the farmers in the area were not allowed to harvest their hay in case traces would be lost which is bizarre since they called off the search for Emile after a few days.:umm:

Another article about the death of Emile Soleil. His clothes and shoes have also been found within 500 feet (about 150 metres) of some of his remains. They were scattered over a few metres. Note that they don't mention in this article that only SOME of his remains were found. Also, because of these allegations against Emile's father (and Emile's maternal grand-father?) they raided Emile's parents and his grand-parents' home.
Clothes and shoes belonging to a little French boy who died mysteriously in the Alps were found almost 500ft from his slightly fractured and mauled skull, it emerged tonight.

Jean-Luc Blachon, the Aix-en-Provence prosecutor, on Tuesday revealed disturbing new details in the case of two-year-old Émile Soleil.

He was confirmed dead after his skull and bones were on Saturday found in isolated countryside close to the isolated family home from where he went missing in July last year.

Mr Blachon told a press conference that gendarmes 'also discovered Emile's clothes 150meters [492ft] away'.

The 'T-shirt, pants and shoes' were 'not gathered in the same place, but scattered over a few meters,' said the prosecutor, who is leading a criminal investigation into Émile's death.

Mr Blachon said wild animals may have dispersed Émile's remains and could also have been responsible for 'small fractures' and 'bite marks' on his skull.

A fall might have damaged Émile's skull, but Mr Blachon said other theories including 'murder or manslaughter' had not been ruled out.

A tooth was also missing but, said Mr Blachon, 'examination of the bones does not allow us to give the cause of Émile's death.'

A female rambler out walking over the Easter weekend found the remains in an extremely steep area, about '25 minutes walk' from the hamlet of Haut-Vernet, near Grenoble.

Émile was staying at his family's holiday home there, and was officially in the care of his grandfather, 58-year-old Philippe Vedovini, on the day of his disappearance, as his parents took a break.

Asked if the area where Émile's remains had been searched previously, Mr Blachon said 'yes, but not using drones or specialised dogs.'

He added: 'At this time, we cannot say whether Emile's body was already in the searched area. I cannot say that every square meter was searched.

'The topography there is difficult with steep slopes making observation and excavation difficult.

'It was also very hot in July 2023, with temperatures of more than 30°C in the shade. which could have affected the effectiveness of the tracking dogs and infrared cameras'.

Mr Blachon said an unnamed woman found the skull and bones 'between noon and 2pm, during a walk on a path that she remembers having walked a month before'.

He added: 'She was disturbed by this discovery, and placed [the skull and bones] in a plastic bag. She went home and called the police. She was able to pinpoint exactly where she found it [the skull]'

There has been no comment about the discovery of Émile's remain by his family, who were all at Easter Sunday mass when told.

Mr Vedovini is a devout Catholic who gave up a vocation to become a monk, in order to marry his wife, Anne Vedovini.

Earlier this month it emerged that Mr Vedovini was investigated as part of an active criminal enquiry into historic child abuse.

Mr Vedovini – who denies any wrong doing – was training to be a monk when he worked at a school linked with sexual abuse, including rape, in the early 1990s.

Mr Vedovini, who was known as Brother Philippe when he worked at the school, was implicated in the active enquiry as an 'assisted witness'.

Interviewed by police in April 2018, he admitted to administering 'somewhat harsh' physical discipline, but said he had never broken the law, according to a source close to the ongoing enquiry.

Mr and Mrs Vedovini brought up 10 children, including Émile's mother, who is now known by her married name of Marie Soleil after she married Émile's father, Colomban Soleil, 26.

The extreme-right wing political background of the family has also been examined by police.

Émile's father was arrested for 'an attack on foreigners' in 2018, and released from custody after pledging to maintain the peace.

At the time, Mr Soleil was an activist linked to Action Francaise, the far-Right nationalist and royalist group, as well as the neofascist Bastion Social.

Three years later, in 2021, both Mr Soleil and his wife stood as local election candidates in the Marseille area, supporting the Reconquest party of Éric Zemmour, the convicted racist and Islamophobe who tried to become president of France.

Lead prosecutor Rémy Avon, who is heading the judicial inquiry into Émile's disappearance said the possibilities that Émile had been murdered, kidnapped, or got involved in an accident were all being looked at.

He confirmed that Émile's parents' home, in the southern town of La Bouilladisse, near Marseille, was searched back in July, while the grandparents homes nearby, and in the Alps, were also raided.

The saga evokes the BBC fictional series, The Missing, in which a young boy vanishes whilst on holiday with his family in France, only to be killed in a hit-and-run accident after chasing a fox.

Residents of Vernet have meanwhile referred to the place as a cursed 'village of the damned' because of its links with disaster.

In March 2015, Vernet was also cordoned off following a horrific air crash in which 150 people died, including two babies.

Germanwings Airbus A320 was deliberately brought down by co-pilot Andres Lubitz, who had previously been treated for suicidal tendencies.

The inhabitants of Vernet were also shaken by the murder of a local café manager in the village 16 years ago.

Jeannette Grosos, who ran the Café du Moulin, was brutally killed by a customer in 2008.

One resident of Vernat said: 'Everybody is saying it – Vernet feels like a village of the damned.'
Interestingly, a few villagers said that only the skull was found! The mayor of the village said that the location where Emile's remains were found was searched with dogs, and hunters were also in the area afterwards and in Autumn they were cutting wood in that location and nothing was found. Perhaps one of the Frenchies could listen to this short video, in case I'm missing something:

It is rather curious that the rambler who found Emile's skull (with or without his bones?) put his remains in a plastic bag. Doesn't she watch crime series? Why pick it up? Why didn't the police comment on her touching the remains (and tampering with a possible crime scene)?

I don't think this has been noted - dated nine days ago:

Good Morning Friends, Villagers and Newbies! Thank you for being here. This disappearance was difficult for me to complete. The incident matches our Missing 411 Profile, you will see why. Many Missing 411 Cases involve someone with a camera, I do not understand the correlation, but it exists. Carson was a great kid! Become a follower of his work! Here is his Instagram page: https://www.instagram.com/carsonhughes_photography/ Dave

Drownings of primarily young men - tragic case of freshwater drowning of exceptional high school senior, 3-sport athlete, highly talented wildlife photographer, well liked by everyone. Body not found till three days after intensive search. Is GHB a factor - never tested for by coroners.

Dave thankyou for highlighting Carson Hughes and his story. He's one of our locals. According to all who knew him, he was all you've said and more. Our community was ROCKED by this in a way we can't even begin to describe. My youngest is 18, so my heart broke for them. He knew Jesus and had a precious heart. His photos ARE world class as you said!!!. So from a personal perspective there were a few things the news didn't mention, but i thought you'd like to know. 1. The local LEO's shared here among themselves, (this was Before he was found) they were confused as to what happened to him because it looked like he emptied his pockets right on shore as if he had to quickly get into the water, but didn't want to get his personal belongings in his pockets ruined and then went into the water. (personal items dumped by kayak on shore) But why? The Kayak was there, on shore, there was nothing in the water that indicated he needed to grab it. So why did he quickly get into the water? It was VERY COLD that day. The news we received here was it was cold water drowning. So again, why go into the cold water quickly? Did something of his float away? They still don't know what got him into that water. Second. Madison IN, also near there, was hit on that SAME day with several tornado's. Down the road on a map from Madison is Carrolton KY, SAME DAY was hit with golf ball size hail. If you look at a map, you'll see these are what we would consider all of our "local towns, cities" that are within 40 minutes or more in either direction around us. So to say the weather was wacky that day is an understatement. All around us was hit. My husband and i both wondered, what kind of weather did Versailles have that day? Everyone was so focused on tornados, hail and then hearing he was missing, i think it was missed. I'm not trying to reach here, its just what it is. Our local areas all experienced crazy weather on March 15th, same time Carson was at Versailles State Park and went missing. Anyways as a long time watcher, as soon as we heard Carson was missing, where he was when he went missing, I wondered about the 411. He seemed to hit some of those profile points :(. Thankyou again for highlighting him, this was done so well and again has given me an even greater respect for you because for us this has played out in real time. So it felt a little closer to home.

The authorities seem to be taking a very casual stance on the incident, especially since this is not the first time that people have disappeared without trace. It is, after all, a very small island which should make the searching easier one would have thought. At the very least you would think the island authorities would be worried about the effect on tourism which is very important on Madeira. I would certainly not be earmarking Madeira as an ideal holiday destination...

Dave's latest - remarks regarding Emile - could he have been hit by car and taken away (my thought, he could have been abducted and driven away) - skull returned out of guilt/plus location of return.

Another case involves disappearance of 16 year old boy in 1949. Thinking about the massive amount of grief that these disappearances cause to the family and the community as well as everyone else who learns of it including all the searchers who give up their time to try to find the missing, is that the real reason they are taken - the loose load has to be immense.

This one is 'close to home' for us. A couple who run a bakery in a town about 20 mins' drive from us went missing on March 16th while hiking on the Portuguese island of Madeira.

They appear to have been found. Just saw a few articles that on Friday 5th April, the Portuguese press announced that the bodies of the baker couple were found 100 meters from Vereda da Abelheira in São Vicente, by a foreign citizen who lives in the archipelago and was carrying out some searches on his own initiative, having smelled a nauseating smell on the path. The bodies were found 20 meters away from each other.

Although DNA tests still need to be carried out to confirm the identity of the victims, everything indicates that the bodies found will be of the French couple, Véronique and Laurent Blond, who disappeared during their vacation with their daughter in São Vicente, Madeira, since the clothes are very similar to those described.

The woman’s body was reportedly the first to be found, on Thursday night. On Friday morning the second body, almost certainly of husband Laurent, was found.

To the French newspaper, Luis Simões, commander of the PSP (police) responsible for the operation, said that “despite the state of the body not having allowed the person to be identified, the clothes, shoes and the probable date of death give 95%, up to 99%, certainty that it is the missing French tourist." Although everything indicates that the bodies found belong to the French tourist couple who had been missing since March 16, João Góis states that it is not yet possible to officially confirm this information. The identification will have to be carried out through forensic expertise or through the Institute of Legal Medicine.

Interestingly, according to the authorities, that area was “searched from the first day,” however, “due to the rugged terrain and dense vegetation of the site,” the bodies had not been found until now.

For now, the PSP suspects that the couple took the trail and ended up falling. “This trail has an area a little exposed at an elevation of 300/320 meters or so and which passes towards the area where they were found, but at a much higher elevation. Therefore, the main suspicion is that they fell from 300 meters to 170 meters,” he reveals.

The Blonds were the 5th and 6th foreign tourists to have gone missing on the island in recent years. They appear to be the first whose remains have been recovered.
