Mother of all gushers - BP Oil Disaster in Gulf of Mexico

Matthew Simmons: “Chairman and CEO of Simmons & Company International, is a prominent oil-industry insider and one of the world’s leading experts on the topic of peak oil. Simmons… create[d] an investment banking firm catering to oil companies. In his previous capacity, he served as energy adviser to U.S. President George W. Bush.”

I think it's VERY important to compare what Simmons is saying in the last video at this link with what Michio Kaku, theoretical physicist and host of Sci-Fi Science, is saying in the video at this link. It's really not that hard to imagine what these lunatic oil people might end up doing especially if what Simmons is postulating is decided to be the only viable option to halt this out-of-control oil volcano! THIS IS TOTAL MADNESS!!! :scared:

Bull Headed or Cautious? BP Knows About This.

In speaking with the best and brightest companies that provide bioremediation to spills such as this, I keep being told that BP met with many of them right after the spill. Very thoughtful on BPs part. Having a field rep see your products is not the same as having a senior VP in the room, but the fact is someone sent several reps on the road to evaluate bioremediation products and services that were available. So far, no contracts have been let and BP remains firmly against using this as a solution until the very end. Are they ‘bull-headed’ or ‘Cautious’?

So, to answer the NUMBER ONE QUESTION that practically every person asks—

WHY HASN’T BP STARTED USING THE ‘OIL EATING MICROBES’ ON THE OIL SPILL?

The number one answer given by the companies that have been sitting on the sidelines chomping at the bit to get started using bioremediation is:

BP wants the oil. Many scientist believe that the amount of oil that has been escaping is much higher than BP’s estimates. It could be as much as 5 times the ‘official’ estimate.

Members of the bioremediation community believe that the delay is because BP wishes to ‘harvest’ the oil that is being ‘driven’ to the bottom by the dispersants. It seems that by making the oil congregate at the bottom, we can’t visually see how large the spill is AND it will ‘pool’ in the deeper areas of the gulf so that it can be later ‘vacumed’ up by aparatus that can pump it to the surface. I hope not, as this would mean that we are killing the Gulf purely for greed—I think most of us can handle stupidity, but not greed.

If BP has handed out millions to the States and counties affected by the spill for clean up—but so far has not spent any money on bioremediation, is that Bull Headed or Cautious?

Also, if you haven't viewed the Dylan Ratigan Show video referenced at this link previously, then please do so in relation to the info posted above.

Why BP calls the shots—The Govt Tied Its Own Hands
June 10th, 2010 jbtutt1e

After the Exxon Valdez oil spill, and as the result of other ‘disasters’ in the United States, the Government created what is called the NERP (National Emergency Response Plan). This document specifically spells out in the event of an ‘emergency’ such as an Oil Spill who is responsible for directing its clean up.

No one can really fault the Federal Government for not knowing how big a problem the provisions granting ‘authority to direct the clean up’ would be. The language in the NERP usually works. For example, a barge captain hits a rock, a spill ensues, the barge company/oil company calls in a team to contain and disperse the oil. No one in Washington is called out of an important meeting or required to do a bunch of paperwork. The Response Officer is usually the state’s EPA Secretary and if it is on a waterway, the Coast Guard is involved. This is very efficient and has worked very well up to this point.

Today, we have a company that has literally ‘thumbed its nose’ at the EPA (they did not budge when the EPA asked them to switch to a less toxic dispersant) and to date they have not moved fast enough to stop the leak or to use what all of you feel is the best method of removing the oil or at least making it less harmful (bioremediation).

Here’s the reason the Government really does not want to ever get involved in a spill and ‘direct’ the clean up efforts…once they take ‘responsibility’ out of the hands of the barge company (or BP in this case) you preclude them from protecting themselves against further liability. They can argue that because someone else stepped in they were not given a chance to do even better. “So, Mr. President—just try and do it your way” says BP. If you do, we’ll scream that you interfered with our ability to protect ourselves and you’ll be picking up the multi-billion dollar tab for the clean up and all the claims from your citizens against us. So, we can use whatever method we want to either hide or clean up this mess—and there is nothing that you can do to stop us.

Hopefully, our Government will find some other ‘legal’ means of pushing BP to use bioremediation to clean up the spill—so far not even the local governments (which can preempt BP if they don’t feel that the company that caused their pollution is doing enough) are willing to stick their necks out for fear that they will be triggering a liability that is so large that only BP can shoulder it right now.

Have you seen how President Obama and the Parish Presidents from Louisana look like they all want to explode when they talk about the spill—now you know!

Fear of BP bankruptcy wipes out rally in stocks
Thursday, June 10, 2010 02:55 AM

NEW YORK (AP) - The stock market had another late-day slide, this time because of fears that the Gulf oil spill will send BP into bankruptcy court.

The Dow Jones industrial average, which was up more than 125 points at midday, closed down almost 41. It was the third time in four days that stocks had a late-day drop.

Investors got a "sell" signal from a news report that quoted an analyst as saying that BP could be forced to seek bankruptcy protection in about a month because of the oil spill. There also were concerns that the company might have trouble paying its dividend.

Investors shrugged off an earlier reassuring economic view from Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke. BP shares fell 15.8 percent, and selling spread across the market.

The Dow fell 40.73, to 9,899.25. The Standard & Poor's 500 index declined 6.31, to 1,055.69. The Nasdaq composite index dropped 11.72, to 2,158.85.

This is extremely interesting in view of the fact of this article recently posted on Sott.net:

Gulf Oil Spill: BP To Go Ahead with $10 Billion Shareholder Payout

Tony Hayward to defy calls from politicians to cancel dividend until Deepwater Horizon oil spill is resolved

Tony Hayward, BP's embattled chief executive, will risk incurring further wrath in the US over the Gulf oil spill tomorrow by defying calls from politicians to halt more than $10bn (£6.8bn) worth of payouts due to shareholders this year.

He will hope to appease City investors by promising in a conference call with analysts to stick with BP's dividend policy amid mounting concern about a plunging share price.

BP declined to comment on its strategy tonight but it is understood that Hayward will say he is confident the company can pay for liabilities resulting from the Deepwater Horizon rig explosion - now estimated by analysts at $20bn to $60bn - as well as rewarding investors.

The move follows demands from senators Charles Schumer and Ron Wyden in a letter to Hayward all dividends be halted until the cost of the clean-up is known.

Analysts warned that committing to the dividend risked further political opprobrium in the US, with Alex Stewart from Evolution Securities fearing it could force Hayward to make a U-turn next month. BP reports its results on 27 July, when it will announce the size of its next quarterly payout, but it is expected to spend more than $10bn in total dividends this year.

"The problem they have is that the oil is likely to be still flowing by the time they announce results," said Stewart. "It's not going to look good paying about $3bn in [quarterly] dividends to shareholders if at the same time local fishermen are having their livelihoods destroyed in the Gulf."

However, BP's dividend is of crucial importance to the City and to the pensions of millions who depend on payouts from profitable companies to boost their retirement funds. Together with rival Shell, BP accounted for 25% of the total dividends of £50bn paid in the UK market last year. Any cut in the dividend could result in investors selling BP shares, further weakening the company, which has lost nearly 30% of its value since the disaster began.

Crude oil has been leaking from a well at the bottom of the sea since 20 April and BP has been unable to stem the flow despite various attempts to halt it, including the "top kill" method of pumping mud and debris into the hole.

Hayward's handling of the crisis has been called into question, and he chose Facebook to apologise for his latest gaffe: saying he wanted his life back. His position has become more troubled since he said in an interview with the FT today that it was "entirely fair criticism" that BP was not fully prepared for the oil leak.

Analysts were today openly questioning the future of Hayward as chief executive, and whether his company could be taken over and broken up.

Bookmaker Paddy Power is now offering even odds that Hayward will be forced to leave his post by the end of this year, meaning two successive chief executives would have left earlier than originally intended. Hayward's predecessor John Browne departed following the Texas City fire which claimed 15 lives.

So, on top of a mammoth ecological disaster, the portent of a massive financial disaster looms closer. The PBS Newshour website has an oil leak widget for a counter of the estimated gallons of oil leaked continuously. This might be a good addition to the Sott.net homepage.

F. William Engdahl, author of Another Century of War, which traces British Petroleum's century long imperial predation of the planet and it's people, just wrote an article on the RAPE OF THE GULF by British Petroleum(BP) under the protection of the Obama Administration and the corrupted environmental movement which remains silent over the Everest sized hole blown in the Gulf sea floor. I copied a few paragraphs from Engdahl's work.

http://www.financialsense.com/editorials/engdahl/2010/0610.html said:
The Obama Administration and senior BP officials are frantically working not to stop the world’s worst oil disaster, but to hide the true extent of the actual ecological catastrophe. Senior researchers tell us that the BP drilling hit one of the oil migration channels and that the leakage could continue for years unless decisive steps are undertaken, something that seems far from the present strategy.

In a recent discussion, Vladimir Kutcherov, Professor at the Royal Institute of Technology in Sweden and the Russian State University of Oil and Gas, predicted that the present oil spill flooding the Gulf Coast shores of the United States “could go on for years and years … many years.” 1

According to Kutcherov, a leading specialist in the theory of abiogenic deep origin of petroleum, “What BP drilled into was what we call a ‘migration channel,’ a deep fault on which hydrocarbons generated in the depth of our planet migrate to the crust and are accumulated in rocks, something like Ghawar in Saudi Arabia.”3 Ghawar, the world’s most prolific oilfield has been producing millions of barrels daily for almost 70 years with no end in sight. According to the abiotic science, Ghawar like all elephant and giant oil and gas deposits all over the world, is located on a migration channel similar to that in the oil-rich Gulf of Mexico.

-------------------------------

According to the Washington report of Madsen, BP statements that one of the leaks has been contained, are “pure public relations disinformation designed to avoid panic and demands for greater action by the Obama administration., according to FEMA and Corps of Engineers sources.” 7

The White House has been resisting releasing any “damaging information” about the oil disaster. Coast Guard and Corps of Engineers experts estimate that if the ocean oil geyser is not stopped within 90 days, there will be irreversible damage to the marine eco-systems of the Gulf of Mexico, north Atlantic Ocean, and beyond. At best, some Corps of Engineers experts say it could take two years to cement the chasm on the floor of the Gulf of Mexico. 8

Only after the magnitude of the disaster became evident did Obama order Homeland Security Secretary Napolitano to declare the oil disaster a “national security issue.” Although the Coast Guard and FEMA are part of her department, Napolitano’s actual reasoning for invoking national security, according to Madsen, was merely to block media coverage of the immensity of the disaster that is unfolding for the Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean and their coastlines.

The Obama administration also conspired with BP to hide the extent of the oil leak, according to the cited federal and state sources. After the oil rig exploded and sank, the government stated that 42,000 gallons per day were gushing from the seabed chasm. Five days later, the federal government upped the leakage to 210,000 gallons a day. However, submersibles monitoring the escaping oil from the Gulf seabed are viewing television pictures of what they describe as a “volcanic-like” eruption of oil.

When the Army Corps of Engineers first attempted to obtain NASA imagery of the Gulf oil slick, which is larger than is being reported by the media, it was reportedly denied the access. By chance, National Geographic managed to obtain satellite imagery shots of the extent of the disaster and posted them on their web site. Other satellite imagery reportedly being withheld by the Obama administration, shows that what lies under the gaping chasm spewing oil at an ever-alarming rate is a cavern estimated to be the size of Mount Everest. This information has been given an almost national security-level classification to keep it from the public, according to Madsen’s sources.

-----------------------------------------------

That deafening silence of leading green or ecology organizations such as Greenpeace, Nature Conservancy, Sierra Club and others may well be tied to a money trail that leads right back to the oil industry, notably to BP. Leading environmental organizations have gotten significant financial payoffs in recent years from BP in order that the oil company could remake itself with an “environment-friendly face,” as in “beyond petroleum” the company’s new branding.

This makes complete sense. Assuming that BP has no worries that the world as they know it may end in a few short years, their modus operandi does seem to be to create the appearance of trying to stop the flow while in reality, their efforts have only included methods that will allow them to eventually tap into the oil volcano and destroying all life in the gulf and, perhaps parts of the mainland.

They certainly did not seem interested in solutions that would prevent them from using the well, OSIT.

I had wondered if there were ways to take away the incentive, like to give them a deadline after which they have to back away, loose their rights but retain their liability while other solutions are implemented.

Of course, this would be highly unlikely with a government already complicit in this charade. That is, unless some of the oil rights go to the back pockets of certain government members who might instantly have a solution waiting in the wings. One thing we know about greedy people and psychopaths is that eventually they will betray each other if it serves them more than any prior agreements they might have had between each other.

A coworker took his family out to Ship Island last weekend for a boating, swimming and skiing trip. He said the waters looked clear and didn't see any oil but when the got out of the water, their skin and bathing suits were stained orange from the oil beneath the surface. The dispersants are working very well at hiding the damage. Let's take a look at what the MSDS (Material Safety Data Sheet) says about this chemical.

This stuff is far more toxic than the oil. I hate to think what will happen if a storm brings this mess inland. It would likely poison everything including ground water and wells.

Geeze! And wasn't it reported that families were continuing to go out into the surf swimming, telling their children, "just keep your mouths closed"! Those poor kids - believing their parents false assurances and possibly ending up with severe health repercussions!

Has anyone heard anything about the theory that the rig was deliberately blown because of a feud between Haliburton and Shell. The story goes that Shell wanted rights to that oil deposit and BP and Haliburton were likely going to lose it to Shell, so Haliburton deliberately destroyed the well head because the disaster scenario was the only way for BP/Haliburton to keep the rights, even if it is the rights to a disaster.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GjLxe3w5ZG0&feature=related

This one's a guest on Alex Jone's show, he says some interesting things about the ridiculousness:of drilling that far down, and that they hit oil at very high pressure. This one kind of fits with my own pet theory that it was caused by greed and hubris, and they simply don't know what to do about it.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LG74YbejKqA

Then there's the theory that another agenda is for the "gov" to create a scenario for the mass evacuation of people from the gulf coast.

Well Halliburton/BP definitely knew the possibility was there before it blew:

Halliburton, the cementing contractor, advised BP to install numerous devices to make sure the pipe was centered in the well before pumping cement, according to Halliburton documents, provided to congressional investigators and seen by the Journal. Otherwise, the cement might develop small channels that gas could squeeze through.

In an April 18 report to BP, Halliburton warned that if BP didn’t use more centering devices, the well would likely have “a SEVERE gas flow problem.” Still, BP decided to install fewer of the devices than Halliburton recommended—six instead of 21.

AND they used Halliburton's "cement recipe":

It is likely that this decision combined with the failure of two other lines of defense: cement outside the well bore’s piping under the ocean floor, which is designed to prevent natural gas from moving up the bore and the riser to the rig; and the blowout preventer, a massive piece of equipment that sits on the ocean floor and is equipped with powerful hydraulic shears whose task is to sever piping in the event of a blowout.

Halliburton, which contracted for the cement and mudding work on the rig, had deployed a new chemical cement that it said would be resistant to structural damage caused by methane hydrates, which were present in the undersea rock in high quantities. But Bea, an expert with decades of experience in oil extraction engineering, said that when he saw the formula for Halliburton’s cement, he said “Uh oh.”

Bea told the Times-Picayune that Halliburton had produced “many excellent papers” that claim “because of the chemicals they’ve added, they think the cement can cure rapidly.” But Bea explained that the same chemicals they added likely gave off too much heat, thus thawing gases lodged in the rocks from their methane hydrate form and sending them up the bore and riser.

When the cement failed, gas began to force its way up the riser. At this point, concrete well plugs in the pipe should have blocked the gas. But contrary to normal practice, the final plug had not been installed, and the salt water was not heavy enough to stop the high pressure gas from rising.

If Bea could see the likelihood of disaster using this new chemical cement, you don't think the chemical engineering geniuses of Halliburton couldn't also foresee this as well?

Maybe. Maybe not. When someone has a lot invested in a solution to a problem, or a new ‘discovery’ or hypothesis, they can become blind to data that conflicts with their wishful thinking. An outside eye, not invested in the solution, may be able to see the error more easily.

The Rob Cavner quote is from a Keith Oberman interview.

Rob Cavner said:
The real doomsday scenario here… is if that casing gives up, and it does come through the other strings of pipe. Remember, it is concentric pipe that holds this well together. If it comes into the formation, basically, you‘ve got uncontrolled [oil] flow to the sea floor. And that is the doomsday scenario.

I just saw what I feared has been admitted by BP officials. The damaged pipe casing of the bore hole through thousands of feet of cap rock into a reservoir of hydrocarbons under enormous deep earth pressures makes this a runaway oil volcano at such depth and pressure that it is impossible to contain. The Russian oil industry has experience drilling into the deep earth and has had runaway boreholes, however their breaches of deep earth hydrocarbon reservoirs were on land and they were able to insert tactical nuclear devices and collapse the bore holes.

BP drilled a runaway well beneath a mile of water. The oil industry's technology and greed have outrun common sense. The nuclear option is too risky to try in this forbidding environment, lest it blow out a bigger hole and release a sudden massive volcano of oil into the Gulf of Mexico. Equivalent tapped wells often flow for decades.

The actions of the deep water oil industry and the financial industry recall the predictions of Andrew Lobaczewski that psychopaths controlling industry and government will destroy themselves by destroying us, their human host. These decision makers are reckless and ruthless predators and an existential threat to humanity.

"It looks like Mother Earth is shaking the fleas off," in the words of Cognitive Dissonace on Zero Hedge.

It makes me realize that there's a high probability that a significant number of people may post one-liners just to get their post quota up. I'm certainly not gonna' resort to that method of qualifying just to have access, and a part of me doesn't even want to know the reason. I did see that there was an exclusion based on some some suspicious forum member who may be a stalker, and I guess I can sympathize with that unfortunate circumstance. But yesterday I was locked-out of a Dolores Cannon thread that I'd wanted to see just because I'm pretty familiar with her work (and have lots of reservations about it).

So qualified posters may want to take notice of when they're posting links that the receiver may not be qualified to view it.

And perhaps the administration may want to consider some other measure of qualifying, and I'm not gonna touch anything where it comes to how one may qualify, because I've never concerned myself with anyone else's qualifications. Kinda makes me wonder how much others may be missing in places where potentially meaningful contributors are denied access.
