I've worked on MOW's since 1979, and I've never heard of CLOSING the Washington Mall to protest groups for SEVEN MONTHS. This is clearly an attempt to prevent citizens in mass from demanding the seizure of BP, at our nation's capital.

I think they have some idea just how hostile the public is getting ... But obviously that is what they want since they repeatedly exacerbate everything. They are deliberately trying to provoke revolution.

Yes I agree that the PTB are seeming to push everyone's buttons in every single direction.

Dawn, I remembered that you're looking to relocate ....and there are jobs available in Cherokee NC. They've built a 500 MILLION dollar addition to the casino hotel that's scheduled to open in a few months, and they're hiring. Basically, if you have no criminal record, and can pass a drug hair test....you're hired. I realize being in a service position to the rich and obnoxious is not exactly a cake walk...but they do pay good and have decent benefits.

I only live about 10 minutes from Cherokee, and I know folks who have cabins and trailers for rent, so if you got a job here, I would be happy to help you get set up. :)

I loved Michigan too, but with the Great Lakes there I worry about being around bodies of water these days. ;)

Kewl...I'm glad you have options! I honestly never thought I'd hear myself recommending a job at the casino to anyone...but the fact is that as the economy gets worse, the gambling resorts of the rich and psychopathic will be the last to fall.

For the most part, there are very good people WORKING at the casino...it's the customers who're a pain the the posterior. I'm told they expect/demand to be treated like royalty.....in fact, some of them are royalty. The good news is that they don't live here. They come from all over, spend a ton of money, then LEAVE....which is what makes them barely tolerable.

Most locals only go to the casino for the "all you can eat" buffet...especially on frog legs Friday ;)

I hear you about the crazy rich tourists, we have them here too in the service industry. Wow, on reading the job postings, you really have to gussy up huh? Yup. One of my girls wanted to play with it since she said it didn't really look like my skin tone, so while she was messing with the color saturation, she fixed up the background which was the wall in our salon.

Also I decided to apply for different jobs throughout the U.S. in towns and states that are on my list. I figure if something 'bites,' maybe it's a good sign and opportunity tends to open itself up if I take steps forward, Life/Universe tends to respond in kind.

If it doesn't, I'll just try another direction. My family is used to what I call 'adventures.'

We're completely surrounded by the oldest mountains on the planet, the land is alive and knows She's loved and respected by many. I think this makes a BIG difference when it comes to the whole external consideration thingy...both outer and inner.

It's also kinda comfortable living where NO ONE, right wing, left wing, or wing nut, trusts the Federal government... including the Sheriffs, Tribal Police, and local Boards of Supervisors. With few exceptions, in the Appalachians, regardless of race, creed, or economic status, Feds are EVIL!

I admire that awareness in a community.

I had a thought today about the situation in the Gulf. We have a pretty good idea that we’ll see a glacial rebounding in the next few years, and that means the northern parts of North America won’t be habitable. With the Gulf, if the reports about toxic rain, about toxins getting into the groundwater and the like are correct, then it looks like parts of the Southern US are going to be uninhabitable as well. That will create a sort of pincer movement on the populations as the people in the north are obliged to head south and the folks in the south head north.

There we see why a police state will be more and more necessary to the powers that be. That is going to be one nasty situation to try and ‘manage’. And we know governments aren’t there to help people.

I read on SOTT that people are already experiencing health problems from the spill as far north as Georgia. I live reasonably close to the coast, albeit much further north, in Maryland. I might be being a bit paranoid but I was wondering if this could turn into a serious problem all the way up here. Obviously, something of this magnitude is going to cause some serious butterfly-effect action on a possible global scale, but it doesn't seem too far-fetched to picture a hurricane or a tropical storm hurling toxic chemicals down on my neck of the woods. With the millions of gallons of oil and dispersant agents in the water, who knows how far the impact will reach. There doesn't seem like there's much hope right now, especially on the East coast. Well, one thing is for sure: seafood is going to be off the menu for a while unless it comes from Sumatra.

I just wanted to compliment your generous offer as well as the generosity of other forum members who have made offers of aid for relocation. It's truly inspiring and yet another example of the importance of networking and another aspect that would be dearly missed if, for whatever reason, we lose the Internet.

As a side note, I am reminded of the pets that were abandoned during hurricane Katrina. I started wondering about starting an adoption network for people needing to move but who cannot take their pet.

Regarding your statement about "feds are evil"; I was hoping you would be able to help me better understand what you meant by that. Since I know there are a few civil servants working for various federal departments or agencies (Canadian ones, anyway) that are members of this forum, there's a chance that some might take the statement the wrong way.

First off, do you mean the feds as in the currently elected government, all elected officials or do you mean the federal government, as in the bureaucracy?

As a Canadian, I'm not as familiar with how the term "the feds" could be used in the US. In Canada, it usually is a reference to the departments/ministries/agencies of the federal government for which the civil service works. Therefore, the term could refer to all federal departments, those that run them (senior executive) or all federal civil servants.

As well, Hollywood and television programing (heh, I just caught the double meaning in television programming - LOL), have taught us the feds could also mean the federal policing authorities like the FBI, DEA or ATF.

I also wondered if you meant it in the context of state power versus federal government power, where some feel that each state should be more autonomous or, more extremely, no longer participate in the union of states, a.k.a. the United States of America.

In Canada, we have an ongoing issue with a large portion of the province of Quebec wanting to separate and leave Canada and a similar notion in some of our Western provinces, mostly Alberta, so we have some context to understand that dynamic.

Hi Desiderata,

Wondering how far up the Eastern coast the oil will travel is one of my concerns as well.

I have come across a few projections that suggest it could make its way all the way up to Newfoundland, Canada. Although I don't put a lot of faith in projections and models ever since the global warming hoax, it has me wanting to find more solid data. Having family in the Canadian maritime provinces, I certainly share the concern.

I also realize that, as fishing becomes impossible in some areas, pressures will only increase on the fisheries resources in other areas. I would expect that would mean that we would start to see the results of overfishing fairly soon as businesses expand their territory just to stay in business and as demand for seafood continues to grow.

Regarding the butterfly effect, we can expect food supply to dwindle as the fisheries and US agricultural production zones lose viability due to scarcity or toxicity.

I also envision an increase in laboratory production of "food products" and the urgency could force bypassing of important stages of the various regulatory frameworks designed to keep unsafe foods off the market. We have already seen an eroding of such frameworks vis a vis certain genetically modified crops to the point that the market is flooded with produce, grains, etc., for which the effects on long term health are still largely unknown.

Another area of concern for me could be if a huge methane bubble explodes out from the sea bed, significant tsunamis could be created and the effects could be felt up the eastern seaboard. Of course, in such a scenario, tsunamis might be the least of our worries.

I often have to remind myself not to focus too much on worst case scenarios, rather, just be aware of them along with all other potentials and remain grounded in the here and now. I hate to think what might manifest if mass consciousness focuses on and anticipates such extreme outcomes.

I am adopting the approach of separating true knowledge from conjecture, trying to remain as objective as possible and not assigning emotional charges to possible outcomes.
