New Forum layout April 2018

Whats the deal with points and trophies? Is it like in the supermarket, we get to exchange them for goods :-P

You can do it like this:

On your Inbox page, click the Selected button on the top right.

Then, at the bottom of the page a blue bar will appear.

Click Select all on the blue bar, and then in the pulldown menu pick Mark as read.

The only problem is that you have to do it for every page of messages (by clicking "Next"), as far as I can see. So if you have a lot, it could take some time.
Done, thank you very much, fortunately there were not much :)

Reopen all of the messages individually by double clicking them and it will clear the red box and flag indicating the number of unopened messages.
Thanks!, atlhough, I did as luc said and is more quickly ...

Thanks for the update Scottie. I think it was about time that we did make the shift to more current software. I feel a little like a kid who has been given a shiny new toy to play with. For me, the quirks of the transition process are going to be well worth it in the end. This change comes at a meaningful time for me - it was almost exactly 8 years ago that I joined the forum and made my first post on April 1, 2010!

I would also suggest that everyone re-upload their avatar or use Gravatar, as the image quality of the old avatars has somewhat suffered (i.e. their resolution has been reduced) during the porting over to this new software. I'll be doing this shortly.

The search works really well. :-) (previous one was kind of iffy)

Yeah, that's because the 750k posts are 1.5GB in the forum, and the indexes for searching are 2.5GB. Fortunately, the files in the home dir are 2GB smaller, so we end up with the same size forum (in terms of total disk usage) but with greater functionality.

I had hoped to buy the ElasticSearch official add-on, but then I discovered that ElasticSearch recommends multiple dedicated servers just for search (!!!). Um, yeah, we're not quite there yet...

Yeah, good idea. The recommended avatar image size is now 400 x 400px minimum, and the old forum was I think 192 x 192px.

What's New -> New Posts

It defaults to "Unread", but on the right side near the top there's a Filters button that lets you change it to "Threads in which you've participated"...

Closer...
Fab! That is pretty much what I was looking for. Another great addition is the wee alarm bell icon in the top right which shows notifications for who has quoted you and who has followed you. Love the new features!

Hi there, new forum look awesome, congrats to community and staffs for making this happen. I have a question though, is there any way to retrieve bookmarks from the old forum?

Eh, no. I'm afraid they're gonzerooni.

I'm sorry if someone has asked this already but, is there a specific function for the "follow" feature? I've been following people now but I don't really understand what is it for, since I normally would follow just everyone on this forum

Seems like it's for the newsfeed feature, from what I can tell. Still figuring this out too

Not sure just yet but I think the member's posts that you're following will show up in your personal news feed.

Can I not set my post per page to more than 10!? :scared:

Posts per page appear to be hardcoded into the software for various reasons, including having URLs that include page numbers - based on what I've read.
