she can’t go out yet because she hasn’t had her PAVO vax yet .. which I am feeling a bit guilty about, but it is apparently pretty rife here atm, so I figure it’s better to be safe than sorry

Congratulation on the first puppy! Luna is beautiful and very cute!

And don't feel bad about the parvo vaccine :hug2:It is indeed very important, and parvo can be deadly for puppies. In general it's totally fine and important to give first time vaccines. It's the annual revaccinations that are the problem. It's better to do titer test and check if revaccination is at all necessary.

Here you can get all the info about mandatory vaccinations from Z...

eventually I will transition to raw diet, but for now I’m keeping g it simple .. advice welcome

Here's some more info from Z... about raw diet for dogs. :-)

And here's the forum thread about it.

And here's some more interesting info from Dr. Karen Becker.

What you choose to put in your puppy’s bowl

“I only feed my dog their kibble, I NEVER give them anything else!” was once a proud pet owner statement, but microbiome

research proves this is a BIG mistake. Study after study shows the more diverse your pet’s bowl is, the healthier their gut and immune system can become.

A brand new study from Finnish Veterinary Scientists shows healthy human food

leftovers offered to puppies significantly reduces allergy symptoms and skin problems later in life. This long-term, protective effect increased the more often real foods were added, so the more exposure puppies had to a variety of healthy leftovers, the more protection there was from developing skin issues down the road.

“…even if the dog

eats 80% of its food as dry, adding a minimum of 20% of the food as raw significantly decreased the risk of AASS [allergic skin disease] later in life.” – Dr. Anna Hielm-Björkman

According to the scientists, feeding a variety raw or minimally processed, real food early in life may lead to microbial exposure that enhances the immune system early on, reducing allergic responses later in life. Some of the foods owners fed in this study were fish

Thanks so much @Keit 🙏 that makes me feel better, she’s booked in on Monday for her 2nd shot apparently there 3, and it will be nice to get out and about.

Had patchy night last night as she is scratching and biting a lot atm, maybe because im transitioning her off the cheap food the foster carer had her on onto grain free good quality dry food. She’s biting her leg and private parts mainly but they don’t seem swollen, or overly inflamed, but I am new to thins. Hoping I’ll get her through to Monday when she sees the vet, I was thinking of getting my mum to get some Puppy shampoo just to give a wash.. any other advise always welcome 🙏

She is so very cute. I don’t have doggies but I know all about having new family members that keep you awake at night and make you tired, so, my only suggestion while she’s being fussy is to nap when she does while she’s transitioning and learning her new environment. Babies of all kinds are hard work.

What a pretty pup! You and she will have much joy together!

Vaccinations can possibly cause itching. Homeopathic vet, Dr. Will Falconer, talks about itching here. Your Dog's Itchy Skin Update: Still #1 Dog Sickness.

My sweet dog, Lena, got puppy vaccines too early (before I rescued her) and she had itchiness most of her life. I did not give her vet recommended drugs to suppress itching, but was able to help her with diet and homeopathic remedies.

Yeah, let the vet examine her. It could be all kind of things, including fleas (even if you don't see any), allergies, and other possibilities. Giving her a wash with puppy shampoo isn't a bad idea :-)

Thanks a bunch @SevenFeathers for the itchy dog skin link by Dr. Falconer. I haven't read all the info yet but I hope to find a way or means of getting my dog completely off this Apoquel medication that I have been giving him for quite a while now.

I have had dogs my whole life and have never had an itchy one till I adopted my current dog (Charlie) about 4 years ago. He was just over a year old and unfortunately he had already received a couple rounds of vaccines by the time I got him.

His worst episodes of chewing and scratching kept me up many a night and I couldn't bear having him so miserable. I finally put him on Apoquel which does work but I know it is toxic and bad for his health. I have tried everything homeopathic, natural immune boosting supplements, and even benedryl which didn't really work.

I am always looking for new information on this subject and new things to try so thanks again!!

In one corner we have a BIG and beautiful mother bear protecting her cubs.

As far as instructing the dogs, the handler uses various whistles that the dogs have been trained to understand for each movement: One type of whistle to lie down, one for go to the left another to go to the right, to move closer, to move back, etc.

I have seen a couple videos where the dog did it's herding without commands. That is usually something that older, more experienced dogs can do.

As for the ducks, they are reacting to the movements by the dogs.

that's my understanding of it, anyway.
