A leaked dossier reveals at least 36 Conservative MPs have been accused of sexual harassment of aides and staff - and similar exposures in Europe suggest the issue of abuse among political elites is not isolated to the UK.
Possible Cover-Up of Westminster Sex Abuse as Names of 36 Accused MPs Leaked

A spreadsheet compiled by Conservative party aides detailing how members of parliament have behaved inappropriately towards colleagues, including allegations of sexual misconduct, has been revealed — and Prime Minister Theresa May is facing allegations of a cover-up after repeatedly failing to confirm when she learned of the allegations.
The dossier, exposed by right-wing blogger Guido Fawkes, notes two current Cabinet ministers have been accused of inappropriate behavior towards women, among 18 serving ministers accused of various forms of inappropriate sexual behaviour. One minister is accused of being "handsy with women at parties" — another is said to be "perpetually intoxicated and very inappropriate with women."
12 MPs are accused of harassing female staff, and four MPs of behaving inappropriately towards male researchers. One minister is claimed to have "paid women to keep quiet." Another is accused another of having "sexual relations with a researcher."
Did May Know? - In response, Prime Minister Theresa May has written to House of Commons speaker John Bercow, calling for the establishment of a new grievance procedure to deal with complaints of misconduct at Westminster, as current processes lacked the "required teeth."
Former Conservative minister Anna Soubry has called for an urgent statement from Commons leader Andrea Leadsom on what can be done to ensure complaints are dealt with properly.
"I do not believe this situation can be tolerated any longer. It is simply not fair on staff, many of whom are young and in their first job post-education. I would be grateful if you would be able to use your office to assist me in doing all we can to ensure that the reputation of Parliament is not damaged further by allegations of impropriety," May wrote.
May wants a new mediation service for disputes and a contractually binding complaints procedure for MPs' staff.
However, Downing Street faces accusations of a cover-up after repeatedly refusing to confirm when May first heard about the allegations of sexual harassment and inappropriate sexual behavior made against Tory MPs and serving cabinet ministers.
A spokesman for May told Business Insider May acted once the allegations were "made public" but was unable to say when she was first informed about them.
Urgent Action Needed - Currently, there is a 24-hour confidential helpline for all staff to report abuse claims and an HR advice service for MPs and their staff — but MP employees are directly employed by their parliamentarian's office, and not covered by grievance procedures for other parliamentary staff. Complaints are dealt with within a small team, often consisting of no more than a handful of staff.
Theresa May is also calling for
an inquiry, after Conservative international trade minister Mark Garnier admitted to calling his secretary "sugar t***" and sent her to buy sex toys for him, incidents he described "good humored high jinks" and "amusing conversation."
In a separate case, former cabinet minister Stephen Crabb also admitted sending "explicit" messages to a 19-year-old woman he interviewed for a job in 2013, while minister for Wales.
The married MP acknowledged his actions had been "foolish" but there had been no sexual contact.
European Parliament Also 'Dirty' - It's not merely in Westminster that legislators are engulfed in sexual harassment scandals —
a group of MEPs are demanding an external probe into allegations of sexual harassment at the European Parliament, after a flurry of allegations that male MEPs had abused around a dozen female aides.
Claims include a senior MEP masturbating in front of a young assistant, a German MEP groping his assistant on her behind, another taking sexual photos and sending them to his assistant at night, and even the trading of sex for legislative favors and work contracts.
Names of the alleged perpetrators have been kept from the public, although The Times newspaper mentioned Yves Cochet, former French environment minister and Green party MEP.
In response, EU Parliament president Antonio Tajani said he learned of the allegations "with shock and indignation" — although added people can already report any abuse they receive to a special advisory committee of MEPs.
Politico Europe says it has so far collected the testimonies of 87 women and six men who have suffered sexual harassment and abuse while working in Brussels, and the news portal has set up a dedicated website to collect more testimonies.
In 2016, in a separate case, French liberal MEP Robert Rochefort was convicted for masturbating in public near the presence of children at a hardware store. He pleaded guilty.

CABINET Ministers have been named by furious female staff in a secret list of sex-pest MPs to avoid at Westminster.
They are among politicians listed in a WhatsApp group set to spark a fresh scandal in Parliament.
Fuming researchers, secretaries and aides linked up to share horror stories and warn new recruits of sleazy bosses.
Sources say the first MP could be exposed by the weekend and one said resignations are “anticipated”.
Reports include tales of MPs groping staff in lifts and a Minister branded “Not Safe In Taxis” because of his wandering hands.
Culprits are said to include Cabinet Ministers — and to cross the political divide from Parliament’s bars and party conferences.
And while many of those accused are said to be “the usual old suspects”, one poster says they also include “surprising younger names”.
Lurid allegations swirling around Westminster included:
* SENIOR MPs having sex with staff in Parliamentary offices;
* A CABINET Minister “groping” during drinks parties;
* A LABOUR MP nicknamed the “disco king” groping a woman while away on a foreign trip;
* ONE MP demanding that staff buy sex toys as gifts;
* A TORY grandee banned from hiring young “leggy” women to join their staff;
* LEERING bosses calling female workers “sugar t**s” and demanding affairs, and
* TOP government aides aggressively pursuing female juniors.
News of the WhatsApp group comes in the wake of the #MeToo social media phenomenon which has seen women around the world speak out about sexual harassment.
And after revelations about film mogul Harvey Weinstein rocked Hollywood, Westminster is on red alert for a fresh sex scandal.
Sources there believe the first MP could be named publicly by this weekend and one told The Sun they “anticipate resignations”.
Hollywood has no problem celebrating child rapists as heroes—even when their crimes were admitted, prosecuted, and well known.
Hollywood Sex Abuse is a Century Old, Charlie Chaplin Raped Kids and He’s Hailed As a Hero October 28, 2017

As the curtain gets pulled back and the predators in Hollywood scatter like cockroaches, every new finding leads to more questions. As the Harvey Weinstein scandal snowballed into Hollywood pedogate, Americans are finding out that children have long been the prey of Tinseltown’s elite. But how far back does this depraved madness go? According to many horrifying cases over the 20th century, the answer to that question is at least 100 years.
Hollywood’s proclivity for underage sex dates back ages—if he were alive, you could just ask Charlie Chaplin.
Chaplin, the man George Bernard Shaw called “the only true genius motion pictures ever produced” had a depraved affinity for children. Only because of his status and money did this Hollywood legend avoid being locked up.
Chaplin’s first underage victim was Mildred Harris. While it is unclear as to when their relationship began, at the ripe young age of 16, Harris gave birth to Chaplin’s child. To avoid being prosecuted for statutory rape, Chaplin married Harris—a trend he would use the rest of his life.
Not wanting to be married to her rapist, the couple divorced when Harris finally turned legal age. That’s when Chaplin set his sights on an even younger victim, Lita MacMurray—she was 6 when they first met.
When Lita was 12, Chaplin had the pre-pubescent Lita portray an angel dangling from wires in a scene set in celluloid heaven in his movie “The Kid.”
Chaplin openly obsessed over MacMurray who lied to the press and told everyone she was 19 as he brought the pre-teen girl on public dates. Just like Harris, MacMurray was impregnated by Chaplin at the age of 16. Chaplin responded making MacMurray have an abortion and removed her from the film when she refused. Grey’s family threatened to turn him in for statutory rape. Chaplin married the starlet under duress and in secret in 1924, telling friends that “marriage was a better option than prison.” The move led to a life of misery for his wife who gave birth to two sons during the three-year marriage.
While Chaplin had the young girl under his control, it would later be revealed in court documents that she was essentially a child sex slave.
According to a report, an original copy of the 1927 divorce papers filed by Grey emerged in April 2015. In the documents, she describes his “revolting” and “inhumane” treatment of her.
Instead of getting banned, however, Chaplin would go on to be hailed as a hero. In 1972, he was even given an honorary Oscar. (Video)
Chaplin is not alone to have his lust for young victims be exposed and still be hailed as a hero in Hollywood. On March 10, 1977, director Roman Polanski, then aged 44, photographed a 13-year-old girl named Samantha Gailey (now Geimer), fed her drugs and alcohol, then raped her.
Polanski pleaded guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse with a minor. However, due to his elite status, he was allowed to flee to his home in France just before he was sentenced. To this day, Polanski remains a free man and is still a highly respected Hollywood mogul. In fact, in 2003, Polanski was given an Oscar for directing “The Pianist” at the 75th Academy Awards—the admitted child rapist received a standing ovation. (Video)
Chaplin and Polanski are just two drops in a bucket that is the depraved underworld in Hollywood. Rest assured, that unless this depravity is exposed and brought to a halt, even Weinstein will likely receive a lifetime achievement award in a few years.
