Poland

Poland is currently having a "Chinese balloon" moment. First, the Russian rocket surprisingly was found, now Belarusian balloons and (most probably Russian!) drones.

A Russian rocket fell near Bydgoszcz. The US speaks out

US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby said on Friday that US authorities are in contact with Polish authorities regarding a rocket that fell near Bydgoszcz last December.

The United States spoke about the Russian missile, the remains of which were found in a forest near Bydgoszcz . - We know the reports on this subject, we are in contact with our Polish partners, we are trying to determine a bit more - said the spokesman of the US National Security Council John Kirby at a press conference, answering a question from Polish Radio. According to the Polish Ministry of Defense, the rocket fell on December 16, 2022 in Zamość near Bydgoszcz. She was found in April.
On Thursday, Defense Minister Mariusz Błaszczak announced that according to the reports received, the Operational Command of the Armed Forces Branches did not inform the government about the effects of the fall of the missile that was supposed to enter Polish airspace on December 16 last year. The head of the Ministry of National Defense announced that he would take consequences against the military commanders, after consulting the president.
"The information currently in the possession of the President of the Republic of Poland does not justify making personnel decisions regarding the highest commanding staff of the Polish Army, and moreover, no application in this matter has been submitted to the President of the Republic of Poland," reads a statement from the National Security Bureau.
- I am appealing for reason and weighing emotions, so that we do not feed an ambitious and aggressive opponent, that we do not allow ourselves to be divided into groups; so that there will never be situations that help the enemy and harm us - said General Tomasz Piotrowski, Operational Commander of the Armed Forces.

Balloon from Belarus still not found. There's a new military announcement

The soldiers did not find the object that flew into Polish airspace from the direction of Belarus on the night of Friday and Saturday, said the spokesman for the Territorial Defense Forces, Major Witold Sura, on Sunday evening. The search for the balloon was carried out in the village of Kowalki near Rypin in the Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship and in the village of Kipichy in the Żuromin district in Mazovia.

WOT spokesman Major Witold Sura informed that "the object that flew from the direction of Belarus during the night from Friday to Saturday has still not been found." – The soldiers returned to the barracks on Sunday evening, and further decisions on this matter will be made on Monday – he told the Polish Press Agency. Soldiers from the 8th Kuyavian-Pomeranian Territorial Defense Brigade and the 7th Pomeranian Territorial Defense Brigade were involved in the search, in total about a hundred military personnel. - We are still entering the subordination of the Operational Command of the Armed Forces Branches. All tasks assigned in the field come from the level of operational command - Major Sura reserved.
On Saturday morning, the Ministry of National Defense announced on Twitter that the Center for Air Operations noted the appearance of an object in Polish airspace from the direction of Belarus". According to COP information, it is probably an observation balloon. Radar contact was lost near Rypin. The Operational Commander decided to launch the Territorial Defense Forces on duty to search for the object"- reads the announcement of the ministry. Let us remind you that the balloon disappeared from the radars near the village of Kowalki near Rypin (Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship) at approx. 1:00 at night, the Polish Press Agency reported unofficially. The search was also carried out in the town of Kipichy, located about 30 kilometers away in the Mazowieckie Voivodeship.
In connection with the search for an "air object resembling a balloon", RCB issued an alert on Saturday for three provinces: Kujawsko-Pomorskie, Pomorskie and Zachodniopomorskie, so that if such an object is found, do not pick it up, but immediately notify the police. Earlier, we also reported that there were two similar incidents on Friday, which were confirmed on TVN24 by the deputy head of the Ministry of the Interior and Administration, Błażej Poboży. “At this stage, I can only confirm that this incident has been recorded. The second one in the last few hours. Probably of a similar nature. While the former was, one might say, taken off the Polish border on radars, second one according to the reports we have, in the vicinity of the village [Rypin - editor's note] was lost from the radar – he said.

Another drone incident. It flew 50 meters under the Wizz Air plane

The crew of a Wizz Air flight from the Dutch Eindhoven to Pyrzowice reported that they passed a quadrocopter. The drone flew about 50 meters below the plane. The plane was then at an altitude of about 1,200 m, Piotr Adamczyk, spokesman for Katowice Airport, told Gazeta.pl.

Monday's incident in Silesian, as determined by Gazeta.pl, took place after 15:00 over Myszków, approx. 20 km in a straight line from the Katowice-Pyrzowice airport. The crew of a Wizz Air flight reported that it passed a quadrocopter (four engine drone). The drone flew about 50 meters below the plane. The plane was then at an altitude of about 1200 m. - The plane landed safely at 15:12 in Pyrzowice - Piotr Adamczyk, spokesman for Katowice Airport, told Gazeta.pl. - In accordance with the procedures, the police, border guards and airport security services were informed about the incident. The police are looking for a drone and an operator, he explained.
This is the second such dangerous incident involving a drone in recent days. On Saturday, at the Chopin airport in Warsaw, the drone missed the landing LOT plane by about 30 meters. The pilot reported to the tower that at an altitude of 2,000 feet, a yellow drone flew over the landing plane. At the same time, another plane from Wrocław was approaching for landing. The controller warned the flight crew about the drone, to which the pilot replied that he saw the machine at an altitude of 1800-2000 feet and that it was the size of a glider.
The Polish Air Navigation Services Agency confirms Saturday's incident. "The drone was not visible on the radars, the controllers did not detect it during visual observation. The approach to landing was the decision of the pilots" - we read in the PANSA release. "The agency acted in accordance with the procedures, informed the police about the incident, the tower controller submitted a report in the aviation accident reporting system. The incident report - in accordance with the procedures - was submitted to the Civil Aviation Authority and the State Aircraft Accident Investigation Commission. An internal investigation of the incident is underway", we read.

It's not funny. The Polish authorities keep arresting people for expressing their views that differ from the official narration. The latest one managed to escape to Belarus between his interrogation and arrest. He was a volunteer sending humanitarian aid to Donbass and dared to question 'Western democracy' on social media.

Belorussian journalist of Belteleradio made an interview with him (24 mins, in Russian)
Exclusive: A Polish refugee asks for political asylum in Belarus.

There are changes to the espionage act submitted by the ruling party that involve i.a. life imprisonment for espionage and 8 years for disinformation. The term 'disinformation' is not defined in any way, neither is specified who decides what is, and what isn't disinformation; and "participation in foreign intelligence activities or other intelligence activities against Poland" (expanded definition of espionage) is punishable even if it's 'unintentional', which is not only unheard of but also - due to the lack of definitions and specified range of applicability - can mean anything, including sharing one's views and news on social media because a foreign (read: Russian) agent can learn something from it. The same time, the level of surveillance is getting closer and closer to that of Stalin era.

The situation is really bad and there are no signs so far that it will not go from bad to worse.

Paroles, paroles, paroles...
Nothing but words so far. My guess and hope is that the 'so far' has a long future ahead of it. Time will tell.

Currently the ruling party in Poland is engaged in organizing a circus for the masses called "accusing the "opposition" of cooperating with Russia". Classic here. At the party's behest, the government's tv station TVP released a "documentary" about how the previous party's governments from 2007 to 2015 collaborated with Russia and, among other things, sabotaged the installation of a missile shield the good Americans wanted to sell us at the time, because "Russia only waited to destroy us".

I didn't watch the documentary, supposedly they present there some manipulated data, documents, leaving out some issues that don't fit the narrative. And the punch line is that the party that ruled previously, and above all former Prime Minister Donald Tusk was a puppet of the Kremlin. They insult Russia in the document, accuse it of many things including the murder of Aleksandr Litvinenko. It seems to me that they are simply trying to portray any desire for dialogue with Russia by Tusk at the time as being a subject of Russia, rather than an attempt to establish normal diplomatic relations. Because, after all, wanting to cooperate with Russia is abnormal and can only be explained by being Putin's puppet. And Tusk's visit to Moscow is presented as the puppet visited its master, who gave it orders, cannot be explained otherwise, for example, that they talked to each other and agreed on some compromise. Oh no.

I think I will watch it just to know what's in there.
The Polish government's obsession with Russia is growing stronger.
Frankly, I can no longer keep up with the convoluted political games in our country. Why do they need to discredit a brother political party when they would have their positions filled anyway if PO wins the elections? After all, it is obvious that this mutual hatred between them exists only for show. And they go to such lengths to maintain the illusion of political struggle and that Poles have any choice in the elections?

TVP and PiS have two greatest obsessions right now - Tusk and Russia :D
The saddest thing is, a lot of people for example on Twitter comment how great the doc is and how shocking facts are coming to light. Eh.

FWIW, an article about Poland.

Poland was invented at the end of WWI, largely by Woodrow Wilson, who made it one of his famous “14 Points”.

The Polish Lithuanian Empire which was dismembered in 1789 by Prussia Russia and the Habsburgs had never been “Poland” — much less “Polish” —since it comprised a huge range of ethnicities.

The idea of “Poland” —like the idea of many other nations states—only appeared in the mid / late 19th Century.

Woodrow Wilson sought to create a patchwork of national states in Eastern Europe to prevent Germany and the Habsburg Empire from rising again—and as a bulwark against the “Reds” in Russia. He did so without regard for historic ethnic and cultural differences and as a result made WWII almost inevitable.

The first chief of state (1918~1922) of the newly created Poland was Józef Piłsudski who loathed the Russians.

This is actually interesting, not to deviate the topic too much, but right around the time that Poland was being created, as the above suggest, all of the South and central American states were also being created, and it has always struck me because at one point the C's said something about the Bell witch time, which happened around that same time period, being an interesting time for earth as a whole, but I digress.

I think the guys in NewsReal commented about it not long ago, Russia was trolling the west with Wagner on the Polish border, and so.. Poland coming up with the helicopter incident to send troops to the border, which in any other circumstance sounds ridiculous, is probably them finding an excuse to broadcast their readiness to the Wagner trolling by Russia.

The trouble is, will the polish buy too deeply into it and attack, or could someone make it look like the poles, or Wagner, attacked and start some shenanigans. Or maybe not, maybe it won't happen at all, and this is just pretense escalation.

A worthwhile digression. Fits right in with the World Fair era!

FWIW, an article about Poland.

I have long been fascinated by Polish history, if I may add something :-) It's true, it's hard to say whether today's Poland is an extension of the old national traditions. In order not to prolong I will use a comparison. According to my interpretation of what I have learned, the nationality of the Poles derives more or less from the territories that Poland now occupies. As a result of wars, these territories have decreased or increased. Thanks to many alliances, Poland became a kind of local Rome - through the spread of culture and diplomacy, many local principalities/states saw joining Poland as an opportunity to earn money and protect themselves together. This was the case with Lithuania where, over time, Polish culture supplanted Lithuanian culture on principle: It was fashionable to speak Polish among the elite. Originally it was quite a tolerant country and the reason was simple - benefits. Thanks to the tolerance of various groups, people flowed into the Commonwealth giving a kick start to the development of the country. It was business that counted, no matter with whom it was done. The result was a strong culture backed up by a very good economy and military (only over a certain period of time, of course). From a certain point on the worm started to eat the country from the inside, everyone wanted more for themselves and so it was easy to dismantle the country. Then we have years of trying to absorb the Poles, then the formation of nation states, where some people were happy because they could live in Poland again and some were cheated because they had to stay with the "partitioners". Since the partition of the country, all the time the former 'nationality' was being pushed out and qualitatively it was getting worse. During the Second World War, the "intelligentsia" was decimated. Today's nation is a shadow of what it was in its glory years, while the very fact that this nation still exists is a great achievement of ordinary people who have passed on the memory of their ancestors from generation to generation. The people have been degraded over the centuries by external forces but are still resisting although at the moment it is such a sleeping one-eyed man dully smiling because of his state of 'intoxication'. He may yet wake up, but whether he will is the great unknown.
