problems with electrical equipment in my area

Re: Exploding transformers and other electrical problems

Reminded me of the stories residents reported of the countryside being lit up by electrical disturbances while Tesla was experimenting in Colorado Springs area back in the day.

Re: Exploding transformers and other electrical problems

Found the following video that shows unusual and highly localized severe weather in the area over Illinois and Indiana. It is from the blog called "Haarpring", so it's pretty clear what conclusions this guys may be drawing from the data. But I found the video interesting non the less, and really curious to understand why there is this strange radar reading and if this has anything to do with electrical phenomena or perhaps magnetic anomaly of some sort?

Thanks Keit for bring this to our attention. It is an interesting website. I've followed some of his earlier postings. It's unfortunate that he has to reference such old photos as presented through google.earth (circa 2003ish) especially since the proliferation of the very many cell phone towers that are now being placed on farmlands in the last few years. I'll keep watching.

Transformers and Car Batteries

There have been a tremendous amount of storms in the area this summer. My lawn which is normally brown nubs this time of year is nice and green still. All of these storms have had a lot of lightning and some with hail and heavy winds. There have even been a few really close lightning strikes; one hitting so close that it sent a screeching sound through the piping in my house. Having said that, a recent storm hit while I was at work and passed along it's merry way. About 30 minutes later, while the sun was out, a transformer blew out knocking out my facilities' power and the social services building next door to us. I don't know if this plays into RyanX's research on transformers popping across the globe but it could certainly be added as yet another one. We've also had a number of building struck by lightning this year causing numerous fires.

Anyway, a couple days later while my girlfriend and I were out for groceries in her car, the car battery suddenly just died without warning. The next day I went to start my own car and lo and behold, my battery was shot too. Each trip to the auto store to get a new battery there were about 5 other people doing the same thing and I overheard a couple phone conversations about batteries, which seemed like quite a bit to me since I'm not exactly living in a large city and I actually live in a small town outside of the city.

Has anyone else had electrical problems (other than the usual flickering lights) recently due to heavy storm activity? I don't know if the car battery issue was merely coincidence or not but it still struck me as unusual.

Re: Transformers and Car Batteries

Oh yeah! In spades around here! Plus, the dog acting funny which usually indicates some EM stuff going on. We've had flickering lights, trouble with three cars, two of which are just one year old... and the troubles were electrical. We've had brain fog and more, too.

Well, of course, Mercury is retrograde and that may account for a lot of it, but it does seem to be weirder than usual.

Re: Transformers and Car Batteries

Transformer blew up out the front of my work a couple months ago, and the light switch board at work melted and fused nearly catching fire just yesterday!

to top it off my bosses dog is now on anti depressents because he has been just wierd, wont sit still, pissing all over the house. These things can be considered completely normal by any means. but interesting that all this has been said in these two posts.

What is brain fog?

Re: Exploding transformers and other electrical problems

Anyone else having issues with electronic devises these days?

Since saturday i've had a tv break down, cable box totally dead, clock 1/2 behind and even my iPod clock and settings has gone insane

Re: Transformers and Car Batteries

Ha! I was thinking about posting something like this all day long!

My odometer, gas gage, heat/cool gage and speed indicator went nuts on the way to work today. I was just hoping that being that there are speed limits and cops everywhere, that I was going the correct speed, as my gages were jumping all over the place. It could be a busted hose that has some sort of hole in them, but really? Everything went crazy at once. This was at 9:15am CST in North America. Everything was normal after work.

I just felt the speed limit until I got to work. I've got a good feel for speed I guess :cool2:. I feel lucky that none of my other electrical stuff went out in the van. Seriously I should have kept my 1977 LTD. I know it doesn't have an electric start....

My van has less than 100,000 miles on it, so this was an odd occurrence. It is an older vehicle (2001) but with low mileage for a van of it's age.

I don't know if a busted pressure hose would have 'cured' itself in a matter of eight hours, but who knows??

Oh and 'brain fog' just means 'foggy like thinking' or 'clouded like'. Not able to concentrate as well as normal. It's pretty evident when on the diet and being clear and rational, and suddenly, not optimal.

OSIT.

car batteries tend to fail more frequently during periods of extreme heat/cold and it has been pretty hot around here lately.

that's not very likely. Would it happen to be a Ford van? I have seen similar issues with the instruments on Fords before....

It IS a Ford Van. (I've had this van for nearly five years and paid it off maybe three years ago - used). Never gave me problems. She is a sweetheart. Just strange having such a well maintained, lovely mannered vehicle act so freakishly so suddently and then no problems at all after a few hours.

Re: Transformers and Car Batteries

there are several possible causes for the instrument cluster problem. Bad ground, low voltage, bad sensor or control module, etc...
In my experience they tend to act up infrequently and are difficult to diagnose :(

Re: Exploding transformers and other electrical problems

I have had my truck stall out, my radio turn off and my wipers quit functioning, all during the recent crazy lightning storms over Springfield Mo... Huge silent lightning... scary stuff. I actually have some video of it if anyone would be interested in me making it available.

Re: Exploding transformers and other electrical problems

For my part, it was a couple of months ago when starting my plasma TV. I had to disconnect it from the wall outlet in order to reset it. It lasted for about 10 days in a row. Never had that problem before and after that period.

Also, we used to have lots of birds in the backyard but this summer, they are very rare here.

Had similar experiences at home in Australia- Freaked me out! Silent lightning who'd have thought?

anybody have an explanation for this better than this quote from Wiki?
Heat lightning is a misnomer for the faint flashes of lightning on the horizon or other clouds from distant thunderstorms that do not have accompanying sounds of thunder. This occurs because the lightning occurs very far away and the sound waves dissipate before they reach the observer.[1] Heat lightning was named because it often occurs on hot summer nights and to distinguish it from lightning accompanied by audible thunder and cooling rainfall at the point of observation.[citation needed] Lightning results from the discharge of negative ions created from the friction of ice and water particles bumping into each other at the bottom of a cloud. Heat lightning can be an early warning sign that thunderstorms are approaching. In Florida, heat lightning is often seen out over the water at night, the remnants of storms that formed during the day along a sea breeze front coming in from the opposite coast.

Because the storm was very close like 10k's away.
