Latest news is that Assad and the family arrived to Moscow.
On a purely speculative note (not being familiar with the situation in Syria before, during and after this latest coup) I think there might be a possibility that Assad and/or his family were transported to exile by Russia somewhere, possibly even into Russia. Depending on how deep and trustworthy the Russian/Syrian relationship was before the coup, we could speculate that what was done now probably didn’t come as much of a surprise.
Yes, I strongly suspect that Trump's likely support for the Greater Israel project may be one of the main reasons why the Zionists seem to have helped getting him elected. Not only is the Syrian nation finished, but as things stand now, it's over for Palestine and Lebanon. The next move will perhaps be Iraq because it's in the name "Tahrir el-Sham", which means it's not limited to Syria but to the region as a whole (el-Sham would correspond more or less to the fertile crescent including Syria and Iraq etc.). That way, the Palestinian and Lebanese resistance will quickly be isolated and starved, and Israel has just to march in to create the Greater Israel with NATO's unlimited money and arm supplies.
Bloody hope so. We shouldn't be shocked now I suppose as nothing is as it seems. And I should add: If that should be the case, what we are seeing now might not be (and hopefully isn’t) the end of Syria. The Russians might have seen it coming for a while and what we are seeing is a part of a bigger chess play, possibly using the crazy ambitions/ideas of US/Israel in a counter move.
Not just licking their lips, they are quite active in that direction.Israel licking their lips now, looking at the Golan heights and all sorts of opportunities for chaos.
The IDF has captured the Syrian Hermon. Netanyahu and Katz at the border: this is a historic day
Sheldag fighters captured without resistance parts of the high peak of Mount Hermon, which for more than 50 years was under Assad's control, and is considered a strategic point that dominates the mountain.
... Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu arrived this morning in the Mount Bental area of the Golan Heights, near the border, and was accompanied by hispupDefense Minister Katz. The two were interviewed by the commander of the Northern Command, Major General Uri Gordin. The Prime Minister said that "This is a historic day in the history of the Middle East. The Assad regime is a central link in Iran's axis of evil - this regime has fallen. This is a direct result of the blows we inflicted on Iran and Hezbollah, the main supporters of the Assad regime. This created a chain reaction throughout the Middle East of all those who want to be freed from this regime of oppression and tyranny."
According to him, "This of course creates new, very important opportunities for the State of Israel. But it is also not without risks. We work first of all to protect our border. This area was defined for nearly 50 years as a buffer zone that was agreed upon in 1974, the separation agreement The forces This agreement collapsed, the Syrian soldiers abandoned their positions.
For the first time since the fall of the Assad regime , the Air Force launched a wave of attacks in Syria - and Sheldag fighters captured the high peak of Hermon: Ynet learned that the fighters of the Air Force's commando unit captured the Syrian Hermon - as part of an operation designed to improve the army's grip on the region, and especially on the summit that weakens In the observation and fire on the other branches of the Hermon. The occupation comes at the same time as a wave of attacks by Air Force planes, according to Arab reports, at airports in Damascus and southern Syria, alongside the rural areas of Daraa and Sawida.
The ground occupation of the Mount Hermon was not the only one. The Syrian Center for Monitoring Human Rights reported that Israel entered various areas in the countryside of Quneitra using tanks and armored personnel carriers, up to the al-Raqad bridge. According to the report, Israeli forces also approached civilian homes in the village of al-Hamidia, north of Quneitra. It is alleged that the forces shot and killed a young man from the town of Jabata in the northern countryside of Quneitra, arrested all the residents of the village of Rasm al-Rawadi and took them to the village's school
The occupation of the Syrian Hermon and the takeover of the buffer zone on the border with Syria was unanimously approved by the political-security cabinet. The proposal was made by Defense Minister Israel Katz, and coordinated with the IDF. ... Another target, according to one of the reports in Syria, is the center for scientific research also known as "Seres", located near Damascus. "Seres" facilities have been frequently attacked by Israel in recent years. They operated under civil-scientific research institutes, but were actually used as military facilities for the Syrian army, the Iranian regime and Hezbollah...
Israel has expanded its control zone in western Syria.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced the termination of the 1974 disengagement agreement, under which the Israeli army withdrew from the western border of Syria, and a buffer zone was created between the parties near the Golan Heights.
Now the IDF occupies it almost entirely. At the same time, they carried out another series of air strikes on military targets in Syria, including the immigration department in Damascus, which burned to the ground.
Israel now has two tasks in connection with the collapse of power in Syria
Expand the zone of control in western Syria to cement their sovereignty over the Golan Heights, which they occupied during the 1967 war (according to MP standards, this is Syrian territory) + create another buffer zone nearby, just in case, to protect the new border.
Destroy military warehouses with weapons in order to deprive militants of unnecessary weapons and equipment that they can use against Israel if they do not reach an agreement with it.
In principle, everything is logical. The collapse of the republic in Syria is finishing off the institutional and programmatic remnants of the old regional order of the Cold War, of which the 1974 treaty and the existence of a buffer zone in the Golan were part.
what come to mind for me is the belt and road initiative -headed /backed by the usual suspects ..And I should add: If that should be the case, what we are seeing now might not be (and hopefully isn’t) the end of Syria. The Russians might have seen it coming for a while and what we are seeing is a part of a bigger chess play, possibly using the crazy ambitions/ideas of US/Israel in a counter move.
To get rid of old proxies? They now have new ones, more polished. Not sure if this is a continuation of Trump's ISIS eradication or more Obama instructed smoke and mirrors aiding their proxies to establish a bone-a-fide new boogey/endless war nation.
It should be telling by seeing what targets were hit by the morning.
Россия экстренно созывает Совбез ООН из-за ситуации в СирииRussia urgently convenes the UN Security Council due to the situation in Syria
The Russian Federation has requested emergency consultations of the UN Security Council in connection with the events in Syria. This was reported by a source in the international organization. The meeting is expected to be held on December 9. However, the exact agenda has not yet been disclosed.
According to the Russian Permanent Mission to the United Nations, the consultations were initiated against the background of the deteriorating situation in Syria, where rapid changes have been taking place in recent weeks. Recall that the former Syrian authorities have officially recognized the overthrow of the current government.
Russia, as one of Syria's main allies in recent years, has repeatedly stated the need to prevent a humanitarian catastrophe and preserve the territorial integrity of the country. However, new developments, including the possible threat to Russian military bases in Tartus and Khmeimim, force a rethink of approaches to the region.
Experts suggest that at the upcoming meeting, Russia will raise issues of international coordination of actions to stabilize the situation. Humanitarian corridors, issues of infrastructure preservation and a mechanism for political settlement will probably be discussed. There is also a possibility that the Russian side will raise the issue of third-country interference in the Syrian conflict.
At the same time, analysts note that the situation around Syria has many contradictions. Important players in the international arena — the United States, Turkey and the EU countries — may take different positions during the consultations. Exactly how events will develop and what steps Russia will take to protect its interests in the region remains an open question.
В Иране обвинили сирийских военных в предательствеIran accused the Syrian military of betrayal
Against the background of the dramatic events in Syria that led to the fall of Bashar al—Assad's power, there are numerous questions about the role of Syria's allies - Russia and Iran. Iranian journalist Hayal Muazzin expressed his point of view, placing the main responsibility for the disaster on the Syrian military structures.
"Many people are wondering: why couldn't Iran and Russia prevent this situation? I answer: Iran and Russia have fulfilled all their obligations within the framework of cooperation, making every effort," he said.
The journalist stressed that both Syrian allies, despite the most difficult conditions, mobilized resources and even attracted Hezbollah forces. This Lebanese group provided significant assistance to the Syrian army, however, according to Muazzin, it faced sabotage from some generals and the military, which made further participation pointless.
"Faced with inaction and betrayal by some generals and the military, Hezbollah was forced to retreat," the journalist noted.
In his opinion, the main reason for the collapse was not external pressure, but internal destabilization and loss of national unity. Muazzin pointed out that a significant part of the Syrian people, in his opinion, "showed willingness to give their land to the Zionist regime and the United Kingdom."
"In such a situation, any efforts lose their meaning. It is impossible to compensate for the betrayal of one's own state even with the most powerful external support," he added.
Earlier, accusations were made in the ranks of the Syrian military against Iran, which promised to provide two brigades of military personnel, but did not do so.
