Yeah, I've been thinking about writing another one to him this week!

I was happy to read today that Syria will 'export citrus to Russia to fill gap left by Turkish ban'. It's good for Syria and Russia, and especially for Syrian producers.

Moscow’s ban on Turkish goods could help Syrian producers expand business in the Russian market, according to the head of the Damascus Chamber of Industry Samer Debes. He said Syrian businessmen are to visit Moscow soon to “examine the chances of cooperation after the sanctions that Moscow imposed on Ankara.”

Turkish jets strike Kurdish positions in Iraq amid rising tension between Ankara & Baghdad
https://www.rt.com/news/325265-turkish-jets-kurds-iraq/?utm_source=browser&utm_medium=aplication_chrome&utm_campaign=chrome

Turkey, or rather the Turkey controlled by Erdogan, is just going off the rails. This direction, for lack of better words, smacks of the kind of signing-a-blank-check used to manipulate Saddam Hussein into aggression against Kuwait.

These god damned evil idiots, excuse my language, really just get totally fixated on what is supposed to happen, and they just can't change direction, can they?

It is absolutely certain that the Russians were ready for a long, strange ride when they chose this moment to make a stand. I am sure they understood how strange and ugly it could get. I can't help but wonder what it must be like to be in their situation, making decisions within this set of parameters, with these stakes at play and with these shifting circumstances everyday. If I prayed, I would pray that Putin and his advisers are able to get some sleep from time to time. I am not kidding one single bit when I say that.

Indeed. Turkey's main goal was always to finish off any resistance from the Kurds, but doing so in Iraq smacks as yet another provocation. If they are finding it hard to push the Russians and Syrians into war (and they and NATO have been trying hard), maybe they will start with Iraq and take it from there? What they do is total lunacy so it's hard to understand it as 'strategy' but there it is. They want trouble and I'm afraid they might get more than what they've been bargaining for. The problem as always is that it's the general population, including many of us who are far from the scene, who will end up paying for the broken dishes.

Add to all that the recent anti-Muslim hysteria and we are on for a big ride.

‘Embarrassing to defend’: US general blasts Raytheon’s GPS control system a ‘disaster’

A top-brass US Air Force general has openly criticized a new ground control system for GPS satellites built by Raytheon, calling them a ‘disaster’, condemning their defense contractor for bloating budgets while not delivering anything functional on time.

As the US Navy's newest ship puts to sea for the first time, old questions are resurrected.
Instability Questions About Zumwalt Destroyer Are Nothing New
http://www.defensenews.com/story/defense/naval/navy/2015/12/03/zumwalt-ddg1000-shipbuilding-navy-ships-tumblehome-stealth/76728838/

Long article - some highlights:

WASHINGTON — The advanced destroyer Zumwalt (DDG 1000) is scheduled to put to sea next week to begin a series of sea trials. It will be the first time the 610-foot-long ship meets the ocean, the culmination of concept and design work that began in the 1990s.

The Zumwalt and her two sister ships are built with a tumblehome hull, where the sides slope inward rather than outward or at a straight vertical as in most ship designs. The configuration, part of the ship’s low-cross section or stealth characteristics, is reminiscent of some designs of more than a century ago, but the DDG 1000 takes tumblehome to a new extreme. Essentially, no one has ever been to sea on a full-sized ship of this type.

Defense News was also among the first to present an extensive pictorial of the Zumwalt while she was under construction.

Is New U.S. Destroyer Unstable?

As the U.S. Navy is poised to award the first construction contracts on its new multibillion-dollar DDG 1000 Zumwalt-class destroyer, experts in and outside the Navy say the radical new hull design might be unstable.

Given just the right conditions, some say, it could even roll over.

At least eight current and former officers, naval engineers and architects and naval analysts interviewed for this article expressed concerns about the ship’s stability.

The bombers were scheduled for retirement years ago, but they are expected to keep flying until at least 2040.
After 60 Years, B-52s Still Dominate U.S. Fleet
http://www.nytimes.com/2015/12/06/us/b-52s-us-air-force-bombers.html?_r=2

Long article with photo's - some highlights:

OVER THE GREAT PLAINS — Glance down from the ageless expanse of blue sky into the cockpit of the Air Force’s largest bomber, and the panorama is decidedly more dated — banks of steam gauges quiver above aluminum levers built during the Eisenhower administration, obsolete knobs and dials unused in decades gather dust.

And much of the rest of the mammoth B-52 bomber is just as antiquated. Vacuum tubes have been replaced with microchips, and the once-standard ashtrays are gone. But eight engines along the wings still connect to the cockpit by yards of cables and pulleys, and the navigator often charts a course with a slide rule.

“It’s like stepping back in time,” said Capt. Lance Adsit, 28, the pilot. He banked left to start a mock bombing run, wrestling a control yoke forged decades before he was born. Time had stripped it entirely of paint.

A few minutes later, his onboard navigation computers crashed.

The B-52 is an Air Force plane that refuses to die. Originally slated for retirement generations ago, it continues to be deployed in conflict after conflict. It was the first plane to drop a hydrogen bomb, in the Bikini Islands in 1956, and laser-guided bombs in Afghanistan in 2006. It has outlived its replacement. And its replacement’s replacement. And its replacement’s replacement’s replacement.

Air Force commanders are now urging the Pentagon to deploy B-52s in Syria.

Now in its 60th year of active service, the bomber is slow, primitive and weighed down by an infamy lingering from the carpet bombing of Vietnam in the 1960s. But 76 B-52s still make up the bulk of the United States’ long-range bomber fleet, and they are not retiring anytime soon. The next potential replacement — the Long Range Strike Bomber, which has yet to be designed — is decades away, so the B-52 is expected to keep flying until at least 2040. By then, taking one into combat will be the equivalent of flying a World War I biplane during the invasion of Iraq in 2003.

US naval base in Japan to be used as Disneyland
http://www.pravdareport.com/news/world/09-12-2015/132815-usa_japan_disneyland-0/

Japan's Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said at a press conference in Tokyo that the government of the country was ready to help transform the US military base into an amusement park, like Disneyland, the South China Morning Post newspaper wrote.

The official had had a meeting with mayor of Ginowan in Okinawa, Atsushi Sakima, and received an offer from the authorities to build a theme park on the territory that is currently taken by a US naval base.

The base will be relocated. During the meeting, Suga said the the Japanese government would support this idea. The mayor of Ginowan was introduced to representatives of Oriental Land Co. Ltd. - the company that operates Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea under the license from Disney Company. The US naval base in Ginowan is likely to be closed and relocated by 2019. Most likely, the base will be moved to Henoko district in the coastal part of the city of Nago, although the decision caused protests among local residents.

Thanks for the suggestion. I just sent another letter and it felt good actually. I guess that is it's own reward. Before you, the Cs and this forum I wouldn't even have thought such a thing was possible. I have changed so much these past few years and I think that is for the better. I just need to change more.

You Sunk My Battleship! US Underwater Mine Hunting Drones Fail 24 Tests
Underwater minehunting drones, designed by Lockheed Martin for the safe, remote detection of explosive devices beneath the waves, failed 24 times during a preliminary trial testing period which began in September 2014 and ended in August.

Most recently, the drones failed 14 times within 300 hours in a five-month round of preliminary trials at sea that ended on August 30, according to Navy test data provided to the Defense Department’s Office of Operational Test & Evaluation.

The failed drones were towed to port seven times, and the intense combat testing required for increased purchases has been delayed.
The US Navy had planned to spend $864 million on 54 drones from Lockheed, the biggest US contractor.

“Frank Kendall, the undersecretary of defense for acquisition, has scheduled a January 19 review of the drone’s reliability woes, the latest setback for the troubled Littoral Combat Ship program. Michael Gilmore, the Pentagon’s director of combat testing, prepared a 41-page classified assessment dated November 12 for the review,” according to a Bloomberg report.

An independent team named by the Navy “is reviewing the drone program because the service realizes “reliability performance has not been acceptable”, the agency quotes Captain Thurraya Kent, a spokeswoman for the service, as having said in an e-mail.

The drone failures apparently add to previous questions about “how much value the US will get from what’s now supposed to be a $23 billion program to build 32 Littoral Combat Ships in two versions made by Bethesda, Maryland-based Lockheed and Austal Ltd. based in Henderson, Australia. Both versions depend on the drones to detect mines from a safe distance.”

The US is to send some 10,000 troops to Iraq to provide support for a 90,000-strong force from the Gulf states, a leading Iraqi opposition MP has warned.

Question arises if this is just some plan being forced or already something all parties already agreed on. Whatever it is this is a clear message that the US/empire knows that the 4+1 coalition is well on its way of defeating ISIS and they need to act fast for them to ever gain a real foothold in Syria. The US and Turkey both are building an airbase in Syria and Iraq. Maybe it might have anything to do with these 100.000 strong force they are planning to send and those airfields are part of serving that purpose?

Think about it, depending on how neatly controlled ISIS is they don’t need to fight them. They could just switch places calling it a war.

The 4+1 coalition will have West Syria. The US/empire will control East Syria. Syria could be divided into 2 parts. It wouldn't be the first time that this happened. This would also leave the Empire with a collider for their much desired pipeline.

‘Hopefully, no nukes will be needed’ against ISIS – Putin

This could be read as; ISIS fighers you are up against a nuclear power. You don’t stand a chance.

But I think the true message is that for everyone who thinks that Russia stands military isolated far away from her motherland shouldn’t convince itself that it would simply let itself overrun for everyone who dares to attack it. Tactical nuclear weapons will be deployed.

The 4 +1 coalition now not only has to be on the lookout for NATO. But also the entire Gulf. Now all the rats have truly come out the sewer

Russia has to make clear I think that there alliance with Syria is not only against ISIS but also against everyone who breaches its sovereignty. How about bombing the airbase the US is building in Syria? I mean how could they respond on that? They have no right to be in Syria in the first place. I doubt the US dares to attack back.

Russia could just deny the bombing and if the US keeps pushing, Putin could give them the same treatment they did with the Turkish leadership and expose the truth about their relationship with ISIS.
If Russia strikes the US-airfield within Syria every NATO member and Gulf country should understand that Russia will also not hesitate of striking them when needs be.

Whatever is in the plans. Russia needs to act asap I think, power is all they understand.

And we shouldn’t be shocked that they want policies that employ confiscatory measures, while also banning an entire class of firearms, specifically assault rifles and certain types of ammunition.

Note: Guess, if the U.S. Governments priority is to simplify things, an issue Sling-shots as formal Military Standard - can't have the little minions running around with advanced weaponry?

Russian officials accuse Khodorkovsky of murder
http://news.yahoo.com/russian-officials-accuse-khodorkovsky-murder-100439498.html

MOSCOW (AP) — Russia's top investigative agency on Friday accused exiled tycoon and former prisoner Mikhail Khodorkovsky of involvement in the 1998 killing of a Siberian mayor, accusations he has dismissed as sham.

The accusations come two days after Khodorkovsky said that President Vladimir Putin has driven Russia into a position when a revolution is "inevitable and necessary" and that he will help to bring it about.

The Investigative Committee said Friday its probe has revealed that Khodorkovsky was involved in the slaying of Vladimir Petukhov, the mayor of Nefteyugansk, the town where Khodorkovsky's oil company, Yukos, was headquartered at the time.

The committee also accused Khodorkovsky of involvement in the attempted killing of businessman Yevgeny Rybin in 1999. Rybin survived the assassination attempt, but his bodyguard was killed.

The authorities in the past said they suspected Khodorkovsky of involvement in those cases, but they have failed to produce any proof.

Khodorkovsky has repeatedly denied the accusations.

Speaking Wednesday in London, Khodorkovsky accused the Kremlin of conducting an "anti-constitutional coup" by pursuing a suicidal foreign policy, introducing unlawful laws and prosecuting citizens in corrupt courts.

Khodorkovsky, 52, once Russia's richest man, spent 10 years in prison on tax evasion and embezzlement charges widely seen as punishment for challenging President Vladimir Putin's power. He was pardoned and released in December 2013, shortly before the Winter Games in Sochi. He had been due to be released in August the following year.

Since his release, Khodorkovsky has continued to oppose the Kremlin from exile in Switzerland.

He said Wednesday that when he was pardoned he gave his word to Putin not to go into politics before his prison term would have ended and while he was taking care of his ailing mother. Since his mother died last August, Khodorkovsky said he felt he "no longer had any obligations."

Top US and NATO Commanders Admit They Cannot Oppose Russian No-Fly Zone
http://russia-insider.com/en/politics/top-us-and-nato-commanders-admit-they-cannot-oppose-russian-no-fly-zone/ri10232

American military expert, a former Colonel of the U.S. army Jack Jacobs said that the United States can't interfere with Russians in Syria, as Russia de facto set up a no-fly zone, cutting off access to any aircraft with the help of air defense systems deployed on land and on ships of the Russian navy in the Mediterranean.

In the Saudi paper on Friday, October 2 appeared an interview with former U.S. Colonel Jack Jacobs, who announced that the United States can't stop the Russians in Syria, as Russia has set up a no-fly zone.. This means that any military aircraft entering the combat zone, may be immediately shot down as a threat to the Russian airspace forces.

American sources claim that the Russian Federation with the assistance of deployed land-based air defense systems have established a no-fly zone over the entire airspace of Syria, in addition the approaches to the Russian airbase in Latakia are also closed from the sea to a distance of 100-250 km from the coast by the Russian navy, now conducting exercises in the Mediterranean sea.

Thus, the U.S. and its allies can't even carry out the air reconnaissance of the Russian Federation forces.

A source in military circles of the American military in Turkey reported that NATO aircraft, trying to get close to the forces of the Russian Federation, has been identified by radar, and the source of the radar could not even be traced.

“The Russians have indicated that they can see everything, and getting closer is not worth it, otherwise it will be shot down”, - said the American military.

“Frankly we were surprised by the air defense system of Russia, most likely there are the latest systems S-400. I have no other ideas,” - said Colonel Jack Jacobs.

About Russians creating a no-fly zone over Syria also writes Bloombeg, citing a senior American military officer. The commander of the NATO forces in Europe General Philip Breedlove said that the new military infrastructure of Russia in Syria, including air defense systems, de facto creates a no-fly zone.

According to Breedlove, Russia has created over Syria,a “sphere of negation”, which American planes can't enter.

General Breedlove believes that “very complex air defense system” deployed by Russia in Syria is aimed not against the “Islamic state”, which does not have aviation. “They are against someone else,” said the commander of the NATO forces in Europe.

[...] And now the Americans are just lost because they do not know how to behave with those who are able to realistically fight back.

Russia to bolster Chinese presence in South China Sea with Su-35 planes in light of tensions
http://www.ibtimes.com.au/russia-bolster-chinese-presence-south-china-sea-su-35-planes-light-tensions-1490998

China has been at odds with Southeast Asian nations and the United States following its island construction in the South China Sea region. World leaders have called out the move but Beijing appears unfazed at it is expected to acquire Su-35 planes from Russia to bolster its military presence in the disputed region.

Tensions have been brewing over the South China Sea region and China is at the frontlines. The nation is also on the verge of boosting its military presence in the disputed region, thanks to its deal with Russia. Beijing and Moscow are set to escalate their military weapons.
Following a series of negotiations, Russia will be supplying China with 24 Su-35 planes.

The analysts also said that China can benefit from the purchase of the jets because it will allow the country to extend its reach in the South China Sea. It will also allow the Chinese military to do with short runways because takeoffs are easier -- crucial since China's artificial islands may have limited areas. Finally, this gives China the change to acquire important radar and engine technology based on the Russian jets.

China has been keeping a close watch over the United States after it sent warships and jets close to the disputed region. Lately, the US has also deployed a spy plane to Singapore.

"We are paying close attention to how the relevant situation develops, and hope bilateral defence cooperation between the relevant countries is beneficial to regional peace and stability and not the opposite," Reuters quoted China's defence ministry.

While the International Coalition planes bombed a camp of the Syrian Arab Army, December 6, Ukrainian Cyber-Berkut have made public new documents. They show that Qatar has bought Russian-made bombs in Ukraine so as to accuse Russia.

False Flag Operation - Where will the Ukrainian bombs explode? (Video)
http://www.voltairenet.org/article189607.html

On Dec 7 the Cyber-Berkut made public another set of evidence exposing preparations for false flag attacks in Syria by the Ministry of Defense of Qatar. According to a hacked mail by Anton Pashynskyi, a SpetsTechnoExport (official Ukrainian arms trader) functionary, on Oct 21, 2015 he wrote to his Polish partner Level 11 the following:

“Good afternoon! There is a new proposal. The Qatari military want to buy 2 thousand High Explosive Fragmentation bombs OFAB 250-270. The issue is urgent, they are ready to pay US$2100 per item. Consider how to deliver ASAP. The final recipient is the Ministry of Defense of Qatar. EUC is enclosed.” (Snap-shot of order.)

OFAB 250-270 is the unguided 250-kg bomb currently used by the Russian jets SU-25 and TU-23M3 to hit the positions of Daesh and sister subversive groups in Syria: (Video)

The Qatar Air Force consists of French Mirage multirole fighter jets and Alpha light attack jets. None of them can be equipped with OFAB 250-270. So the legitimate question is:

Why does the Qatari Minitry of Defense want to buy enormous arsenal of the air bombs, not only unfit for their aircrafts, but at a price 3 times (!) higher than the market one? (normally OFAB 250-270 is sold at US$700-800 per item)

The answer is horrifically simple: to make an OFAB 250-270 explode you do not need to drop it from a jet — it can be done right on the ground. Any Qatar-linked terrorist group can drive it to a highly-populated area in Syria and stage a “merciless strike by the Russian aviation”. No doubt the a number of absolutely independent forensic experts would promptly conclude that this type of bomb is widely used by the Russian AF in Syria.

At the end we have to note that some pro-Kiev bloggers are harping on the allegations about “Russian aviation recklessly using unguided bombs close to civilian areas in Syria” since early October.

Putin orders to destroy any targets that threaten Russian military in Syria
http://www.intifada-palestine.com/2015/12/putin-orders-to-destroy-any-targets-that-threaten-russian-military-in-syria/

Any targets that threaten Russian forces or our infrastructure on the ground should be immediately destroyed,” Putin told a session of the Defense Ministry’s collegium.

MOSCOW, December 11. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has ordered Russian military to destroy any targets that threaten Russian Armed Forces in Syria. “I order to act very tough. Any targets that threaten Russian forces or our infrastructure on the ground should be immediately destroyed,” Putin told a session of the Defense Ministry’s collegium.

The president also warned against “those who will again try to organize any provocations against our servicemen. ” “We have already taken additional measures to ensure security of Russian servicemen and air base. It was strengthened by new aviation groups and missile defense systems. Strike aircraft will now carry out operations under cover of fighter jets,” Putin said.

Putin said that the Russian military have caused a substantial damage to terrorists in Syria, adding that the actions of the Russian Armed Forces are worthy of praise. “The combined operation of the Aerospace Defence Forces and the Navy, the use of newest high precision weapons systems has caused a serious damage to the terrorist infrastructure, thus qualitatively changing the situation in Syria,” the president said. The president also ordered the defense ministry to coordinate actions in Syria with Israel’s command post and the US-led international coalition.

“It’s important to develop cooperation with all countries really interested in destroying terrorists. I am talking about contacts on ensuring flight safety with the command post of Israel’s air force and forces of the US-led coalition,” Putin said.

According to the official, terrorists in Syria pose a direct threat to Russia and Moscow’s actions are carried out to protect the country rather than due to abstract interests. “Our actions there are not due to any unclear and abstract geopolitical interests and the wish to get training and test new weapons systems. This is not the most important thing. The goal is to avert the threat for the Russian Federation itself,” Putin said at the meeting of the Defense Ministry’s board.

Putin stressed that representatives of various ethnic groups not only from Russia’s North Caucasus but also from other regions take part in the combat actions and also boast of participating in “punitive actions.” The gunmen in Syria have created “a true bridgehead.” “Their plans were evident: to strengthen and spread their expansion to the new regions,” the Russian president said.

According to Putin, the actions of Russia’s Armed Forces in Syria “were synchronized with the work of law enforcement bodies and special services on Russia’s territory.” The Federal Security Service reveals terrorist cells, including of the Islamic State group, “on almost all the territory of the country.” “All this is a direct threat to Russia and our military in Syria first of all protect their country. Our actions there are not due to any unclear and abstract geopolitical interests and the wish to get training and test new weapons systems,”

Putin said. This is not the most important thing. The goal is to avert the threat for the Russian Federation itself,” the Russian leader said. Russia’s Aerospace Force started delivering pinpoint strikes in Syria at facilities of the Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist organizations, which are banned in Russia, on September 30, 2015, on a request from Syrian President Bashar Assad.

The air group initially comprised over 50 aircraft and helicopters, including Sukhoi Su-24M, Su-25SM and state-of-the-art Su-34 aircraft. They were redeployed to the Khmeimim airbase in the province of Latakia. In mid-November, Russia increased the number of aircraft taking part in the operation in Syria to 69 and involved strategic bombers in strikes at militants. As the Russian Defense Ministry reported, Russia’s air grouping has focused on destroying terrorist-controlled oil extraction, storage, transportation and refining facilities. Russian Navy ships and submarines were also included in the operation.

Top US and NATO Commanders Admit They Cannot Oppose Russian No-Fly Zone

American military expert, a former Colonel of the U.S. army Jack Jacobs said that the United States can't interfere with Russians in Syria, as Russia de facto set up a no-fly zone, cutting off access to any aircraft with the help of air defense systems deployed on land and on ships of the Russian navy in the Mediterranean.

That is all good from a military point of view, but my concern is that some within NATO seem to want a larger confrontation, so what's stopping them from sending aircraft into Syria/Russia's no-fly zone in the hope that they'll be knocked down? Then they can claim that the Russians are evil and can retaliate and escalate. If they are not destroyed, then they could take that as a sign of 'weakness' and become more bold in their interventions. Generally speaking I'm just worried that if they keep provoking, eventually Russia will have to hit back and the situation will deteriorate even further. :/

Recent terrorist attacks in Europe are proof that what is going on in Syria affects Europe as well, Syrian president points out

MADRID, December 11. /TASS/. Russia’s activities in Syria are an "act of defending Europe," Syrian President Bashar Assad told EFE news agency in an interview published on Friday.

Answering a question on what Russian President Vladimir Putin asked for in exchange for helping the Syrian authorities in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization banned in Russia, Assad said: "He did not ask for anything in return for one simple reason — this is not trading." "In fact, normal relations between two countries are based on common interests," Assad stressed. "The issue is what interests do Syria and Russia share? Is Russia interested in growing terrorism in Syria, in the collapse of the Syrian state, in anarchy? No, [Russia] is not interested [in that]," Assad said adding that Moscow "wants stability in Syria, Iraq and in the region as a whole."

"We are located not so far from Russia, and let me also add, not far from Europe," the Syrian president noted. "In this respect, Russia’s activities in Syria represent an act of defending Europe." Assad added that recent terrorist attacks in Europe "are proof that what is going on" in Syria affects Europe as well.

The Syrian president stressed that Russia does not plan to open new military bases in Syria. "They [Russia] refuted it themselves two days ago. If they had planned something, they would have announced it," he added. Assad said Iran does not have any plans to open its own military bases in Syria as well. "No, they [Iran] have never thought about it, never raised or discussed this issue," the president noted.

On December 9 Russian Defense Ministry’s official spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that Moscow will not open new air bases on the territory of Syria as there is no need in this. "One does not have to be a military expert to understand that it will take only about 30-40 minutes for any Russian plane to fly from the Hmeimim air base to any point on the Syrian territory. So, there was and is no need to establish additional Russian air bases on the Syrian territory contrary to what ‘strategists on sofas’ say," Konashenkov said.

Russian military operation in Syria

On September 30 Russia’s Federation Council unanimously approved President Vladimir Putin’s request to launch a military operation in Syria against Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist groups. Russian Aerospace Defense Forces delivered first targeted airstrikes at militants’ positions on the same day. More than 50 jets and helicopters take part in the operation, including Su-34 and Su-24M fighter jets, Su-25 aircraft, Su-30SM fighter aircraft, and Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters. Since the start of the operation, Russian aviation made hundreds of sorties, destroyed dozens of ammunition depots, explosives production plants and command posts.

President al-Assad: Russia’s policy towards Syria is based on values and interests, the West is not serious in fighting terrorists
