Moscow’s ban on Turkish goods could help Syrian producers expand business in the Russian market, according to the head of the Damascus Chamber of Industry Samer Debes. He said Syrian businessmen are to visit Moscow soon to “examine the chances of cooperation after the sanctions that Moscow imposed on Ankara.”

Turkish jets strike Kurdish positions in Iraq amid rising tension between Ankara & Baghdad

Turkey, or rather the Turkey controlled by Erdogan, is just going off the rails. This direction, for lack of better words, smacks of the kind of signing-a-blank-check used to manipulate Saddam Hussein into aggression against Kuwait.
These god damned evil idiots, excuse my language, really just get totally fixated on what is supposed to happen, and they just can't change direction, can they?
It is absolutely certain that the Russians were ready for a long, strange ride when they chose this moment to make a stand. I am sure they understood how strange and ugly it could get. I can't help but wonder what it must be like to be in their situation, making decisions within this set of parameters, with these stakes at play and with these shifting circumstances everyday. If I prayed, I would pray that Putin and his advisers are able to get some sleep from time to time. I am not kidding one single bit when I say that.

‘Embarrassing to defend’: US general blasts Raytheon’s GPS control system a ‘disaster’

A top-brass US Air Force general has openly criticized a new ground control system for GPS satellites built by Raytheon, calling them a ‘disaster’, condemning their defense contractor for bloating budgets while not delivering anything functional on time.

Russian Defence Ministry spokesman Maj-Gen Igor Konashenkov.
"If they're not involved in this strike, why are Pentagon representatives-as leaders of the anti-ISIL coalition-staying silent about jets of their allies being in the Deir ezZor region on December 6? Isn't it because coalition jets are receiving all information about about their targets from the Pentagon?"

And now this ... It leaves the U.S. wide open for an attack from outside forces. Incompetence or by design?

You Sunk My Battleship! US Underwater Mine Hunting Drones Fail 24 Tests
Underwater minehunting drones, designed by Lockheed Martin for the safe, remote detection of explosive devices beneath the waves, failed 24 times during a preliminary trial testing period which began in September 2014 and ended in August.
Most recently, the drones failed 14 times within 300 hours in a five-month round of preliminary trials at sea that ended on August 30, according to Navy test data provided to the Defense Department’s Office of Operational Test & Evaluation.
The failed drones were towed to port seven times, and the intense combat testing required for increased purchases has been delayed.
The US Navy had planned to spend $864 million on 54 drones from Lockheed, the biggest US contractor.
“Frank Kendall, the undersecretary of defense for acquisition, has scheduled a January 19 review of the drone’s reliability woes, the latest setback for the troubled Littoral Combat Ship program. Michael Gilmore, the Pentagon’s director of combat testing, prepared a 41-page classified assessment dated November 12 for the review,” according to a Bloomberg report.
An independent team named by the Navy “is reviewing the drone program because the service realizes “reliability performance has not been acceptable”, the agency quotes Captain Thurraya Kent, a spokeswoman for the service, as having said in an e-mail.
The drone failures apparently add to previous questions about “how much value the US will get from what’s now supposed to be a $23 billion program to build 32 Littoral Combat Ships in two versions made by Bethesda, Maryland-based Lockheed and Austal Ltd. based in Henderson, Australia. Both versions depend on the drones to detect mines from a safe distance.”

American military expert, a former Colonel of the U.S. army Jack Jacobs said that the United States can't interfere with Russians in Syria, as Russia de facto set up a no-fly zone, cutting off access to any aircraft with the help of air defense systems deployed on land and on ships of the Russian navy in the Mediterranean.
Recent terrorist attacks in Europe are proof that what is going on in Syria affects Europe as well, Syrian president points out
MADRID, December 11. /TASS/. Russia’s activities in Syria are an "act of defending Europe," Syrian President Bashar Assad told EFE news agency in an interview published on Friday.
Answering a question on what Russian President Vladimir Putin asked for in exchange for helping the Syrian authorities in the fight against the Islamic State (IS) terrorist organization banned in Russia, Assad said: "He did not ask for anything in return for one simple reason — this is not trading." "In fact, normal relations between two countries are based on common interests," Assad stressed. "The issue is what interests do Syria and Russia share? Is Russia interested in growing terrorism in Syria, in the collapse of the Syrian state, in anarchy? No, [Russia] is not interested [in that]," Assad said adding that Moscow "wants stability in Syria, Iraq and in the region as a whole."
"We are located not so far from Russia, and let me also add, not far from Europe," the Syrian president noted. "In this respect, Russia’s activities in Syria represent an act of defending Europe." Assad added that recent terrorist attacks in Europe "are proof that what is going on" in Syria affects Europe as well.
The Syrian president stressed that Russia does not plan to open new military bases in Syria. "They [Russia] refuted it themselves two days ago. If they had planned something, they would have announced it," he added. Assad said Iran does not have any plans to open its own military bases in Syria as well. "No, they [Iran] have never thought about it, never raised or discussed this issue," the president noted.
On December 9 Russian Defense Ministry’s official spokesman Igor Konashenkov said that Moscow will not open new air bases on the territory of Syria as there is no need in this. "One does not have to be a military expert to understand that it will take only about 30-40 minutes for any Russian plane to fly from the Hmeimim air base to any point on the Syrian territory. So, there was and is no need to establish additional Russian air bases on the Syrian territory contrary to what ‘strategists on sofas’ say," Konashenkov said.
Russian military operation in Syria
On September 30 Russia’s Federation Council unanimously approved President Vladimir Putin’s request to launch a military operation in Syria against Islamic State and Jabhat al-Nusra terrorist groups. Russian Aerospace Defense Forces delivered first targeted airstrikes at militants’ positions on the same day. More than 50 jets and helicopters take part in the operation, including Su-34 and Su-24M fighter jets, Su-25 aircraft, Su-30SM fighter aircraft, and Mi-8 and Mi-24 helicopters. Since the start of the operation, Russian aviation made hundreds of sorties, destroyed dozens of ammunition depots, explosives production plants and command posts.
