At a time when Prime Minister David Cameron is ordering air strikes in Syria (against the wishes of the people that *he’s* supposed to be representing) and after France and the US have recently intensified their own airstrike campaigns, I think it is important to get an unbiased point of view, straight from the horse’s mouth, from the leader of the country that’s now being bombed from the skies by several Western powers, while being attacked by foreign fighters on the ground, who hail from as many as 120 countries.

Bashar al-Assad sounds more American in his views than Obama or any presidential candidates in the running. What an upside down world. :O

"Germany's Air Force is in bad shape. For years, its fighter planes have fallen into disrepair due to lack of spare parts, with the number of its flyable, operational warplanes now at one of its lowest points," Robert Beckhusen wrote for the War is Boring website.

Ready for Anti-Daesh Fight? Germany's Air Force is Collapsing
http://sputniknews.com/military/20151206/1031316092/germany-anti-daesh-tornado-typhoon-aircraft.html

Berlin among other things plans to send six Panavia Tornado multirole fighters to conduct reconnaissance flights in Syria, which does not say much without a context.

Germany has a total of 93 Tornadoes, 66 of which are available for deployment but only 29 are actually combat ready, Der Spiegel detailed, citing a recent report of Germany's Defense Ministry. Earlier this week, Germany's defense chief Ursula von der Leyen told ARD that 30 Tornado aircraft were fully operational but differing numbers do not really change the fact that the situation is getting worse.

In 2014, a total of 38 Tornadoes, or 57 percent of Germany's deployable multirole warplanes, were combat ready. A year later, less than half of them (44 percent) could actually fly missions.

The same dynamic is true with regard to the most advanced warplane in Germany's arsenal.

"Take the Eurofighter Typhoon. The twin-engine, canard-delta wing fighter is Germany's most modern warplane, of which it owns 109 in three different variants. Seventy-four were available but only 42 were deployable in 2014," Beckhusen observed, citing a German air force report obtained by Der Spiegel.

This is a worrying trend in itself but the fact that Germany's defense agency does not distinguish between full and limited operational capability makes it significantly worse. If this difference is taken into account, the number of combat ready Typhoons drops to eight aircraft, the expert explained.

‘Majority of World is on Putin’s Side Because US Abandoned Europe’
http://sputniknews.com/politics/20151205/1031293701/russia-us-syria-troops-conflict-turkey-erdogan-crumbling-position.html

Obama’s promise not to send any boots on the ground goes against the actions that the US government wants to take. Scott Bennett - former US Army officer and counterterrorism analyst spoke in an exclusive interview with Sputnik regarding this manifestation.

“If the US sends its troops on the ground then that is a declaration of war, bypassing around the US Congress which means it’s unconstitutional and it is a violation for which he should be impeached and Ashton Carter should be arrested and prosecuted, because the United States is not to send its military men and women into combat without declaring war, and the reason for that is that wars are supposed to be very dangerous and deadly and it is a last resort of any political diplomacy,” Bennett told Sputnik in an interview.

He further said, “The US is sending its troops simply to check Russian movements and I think that will not be allowed because Russians will own the battle space and control the territory that the US Special Forces are allowed into.”

“That is going to result in some deaths. Some American soldiers will be sacrificed by going into the wrong places and probably intentionally killed in order to inflate the conflict with Russia and justify all sorts of other political actions.”

He went on to say that Russia, following the downing of Su-24 bomber by Turkish President Erdogan, has all the ‘moral authority’ to step in with overwhelming technology, man power, missiles and ships to control the situation in the country.

Bennett further said that according to him the next step will be a coup d'état against President Erdogan. “I think his military forces will rise up, remove him and his son and then the Turkish regime will be stable and Russia will have new relationship with Turkey and at that point Turkey will have peace with Assad and Europe will be very thankful because Erdogan has been facilitating this mass refugee invasion and trying to extort Europe for that.”

According to the analyst, “Everything is in Russia’s favor and against the US. That’s why the US is rushing in its last effort to keep control over its crumbling position, but I don’t think it’s going to end well because the moment US forces start getting killed that’s when the entire US Congress and the people will rise up and say we shouldn’t be there in the first place.”

Talking about Russia’s presence in Syria, Bennett said that Russia is there to fight Daesh (ISIL), because if the terrorists go out of control they can seep into the Russian territory.

If this RT article is true it sounds very intentional but will probably be called an "accident".

US-led coalition warplanes are reported to have killed four Syrian soldiers in the Dier al Zor province, which is mostly under the control of Islamic State. If confirmed, this would be the first time coalition planes have hit Syrian troops, Reuters reports.

A Syrian government source confirmed that the airstrike had taken place and that there had been casualties. The source also added that vehicles had been destroyed.

A total of four Syrian Army soldiers have been killed, while a further 16 were injured, a government source told RIA Novosti.

The airstrike hit an ammunition dump belonging to the Syrian Army in Dier al Zor. According to our information, four soldiers have died and 16 were injured. Two tanks were also damaged. This was the work of the US-led coalition,” the government source added.

US Targets Syrian Military Over Weekend: Report
http://www.activistpost.com/2015/12/us-targets-syrian-military-over-weekend-report.html

Four US-led coalition warplanes launched nine rockets on one of Syrian Arab Army locations in Dier Al Zour province yesterday evening on the 6th of December 2015.

Their attack claimed the lives of at least three Syrian soldiers and injured more than thirteen others in addition to destroying many military vehicles, armored vehicles, machine guns, and other kind of ammunition belonging to the Syrian Arab Army.

The Syrian foreign ministry, considers this to be an aggressive act and an obstruction of the Syrian Arab Army’s efforts in fighting terrorists. The Syrian Foreign and Expatriate Ministry addressed this position in two messages to the United Nations United Council.

Earlier, on 10th October 2015, two US-led coalition F16-aircraft violated the airspace of Aleppo province and bombed two power plants leaving the Syrian people in the area without power

Earlier this year, on 18th of March, Syrian Air Defenses Forces shot down a US-led coalition drone that was flying over the Syrian Presidential palace in Lattakia province. The drone was the same kind that the US uses for spying and assassinations in Afghanistan.

Syria: Kremlin responds to CIA TOW missiles: dozens of T-90 tanks deployed to the south of Aleppo
http://www.difesaonline.it/mondo-militare/siria-il-cremlino-risponde-ai-missili-della-cia-decine-di-carri-armati-t-90-schierati

English translate: 12- 06- 2015 (Photo: MoD Fed. Russian / web) IZAKOVIC

Moscow has sent to Syria a first armored attack force consisting of T-90 tanks to support the upcoming campaign to the south of Aleppo. The presence of tanks of the third generation is motivated by the ability of the enemy (Isis- rebels supported by the US) to use the TOW missiles (*), capable of destroying less advanced armored platforms such as the T-72 tank standards Damascus has heavy 41 tons.

The T-90 weighs 47 tons. And 'it armed with a 125 mm cannon and anti-tank missiles AT-11 Sniper. In addition to the standard passive armor, it is protected in front by the third generation of explosive reactive armor Kontact-5 ERA, integrated with the electro-optical system "Shtora" (**).

The T-90 is the flagship of the Russian armored forces, pending the entry into the production of the universal modular fighting platform "Armyrmata". Syrian media claim that the T-90 will be led into battle by loyalist troops, but it seems highly unlikely and is clearly a propaganda stunt.

The technology of the latest version of the T-90 is jealously guarded by Moscow and its "surrender" to the enemy is not deemed acceptable by the Russian General Staff (as was the case for Iraqi Abrams, "given away" to the enemy without a fight). Despite their presence has been confirmed in Chechnya and Ukraine, the Syrian context is the first redeployment in a war zone for the Russian army T-90.

The new Russian countermove should be seen as the latest attempt to give a new impetus to the troops of the Syrian government in the civil war and counteract the effect of TOW antitank missile.

The presence of the T-90, is intended as a game-changer, is a clear response to anti-tank missiles of the rebels, rivals to the regime provided by the countries behind the CIA program. The turret of the T-90 is wrapped with reactive plates able to clear all anti-tank missiles with shaped charge. To put them out of order, then, would serve missiles with double charge. Syrian media report that the tanks T-90 will join the Fourth Armored Division of the Republican Guard, commanded by Syrian Ali Maher Assad, younger brother of President Bashar Assad.

Until recently the six Russian T-90 were sent to Syria to protect the city of Latakia, on the Mediterranean coast of Syria. Now at least twenty T90A are already in Syria. Their number could double in the next 96 hours in support of Syrian armored divisions consisting of about 200 T-72 (another 200 T-72 would be a protection of the nerve centers of the country).

(*) Program TOW

The TOW program overseen by the CIA, is totally separate from that what failed miserably fielded by the Pentagon that, as intended, would have to affect the outcome of the other led war in Syria, one in the north-east of the country against the Islamic state. The CIA has launched the TOW program in early 2014, with the aim of countering Damascus providing training, arms, ammunition and anti-tank missiles: tools that would prove essential to bridge the gap with the heavy equipment of the government loyalist. The missiles arrive in Syria from Saudi Arabia, after delivery from the CIA. The plan, as described by the Pentagon, was intended to exert sufficient military pressure against Assad's forces and convince him to a political compromise. A sort of "invitation" to the negotiating table, perhaps avoiding the collapse that would unleash chaos in the country. The arrival on the scene of Russia, however, has upset the whole strategy of the CIA. The TOW program, despite everything, continues.

Saudi Arabia reiterates its support (none other than the projection mirror the US) to the rebels. Browse around a clause in the program: the missiles are delivered in limited quantities. To get supplies, the rebels must demonstrate that they possess the same pitchers delivered. A clause, we do not know how this can really work, to avoid the systems can end up on the black market. In 2013, Saudi Arabia has purchased 13,975 anti-tank missiles, providing fully delivered. By contract, the Saudi government must inform the Member States of final destination of the missiles. The US approval is implied.

(**) Defensive Aids System Shtora-1

The Defensive Aid System Shtora-1 protects the tank from missile guided by SACLOS (Semi-Automatic Command to Line Of Sight) the laser. And is considered effective against missiles TOW, HOT, AT-4, and AT-5 Sagger, as well as against some ATGM.

Developed by the Research and Production Corporation Zenith it entered service in 1993. It is a warning system that detects the threat and directs the laser turret automatically in the direction of the threat, triggering then shielding.

The DAS Shtora-1 is formed by a train of interference electro-optical (jammer, the modulator and the control panel), grenades for shielding against enemy "illuminations", an alarm system precision laser and the main control panel that processes information from the sensors, activating the defensive screen.

ISIS Makes Major Move In Yemen, Assassinates Aden's Governor After Executing Two Dozen Houthis (Video)
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2015-12-06/isis-makes-major-move-yemen-assassinates-adens-governor-after-executing-two-dozen-ho

One point we’ve been keen on driving home as the war in Syria intensifies is that while the sheer number of combatants and the overt involvement of at least seven world powers certainly means that among the many conflicts raging in the Mid-East, the war in Syria is the fight that matters most for the non-Arab world, it’s important not to miss the forest for the trees.

That is, it’s critical to see the bigger picture here, and that entails understanding how Syria is related to the conflicts raging in Iraq, Yemen, and to a lesser extent, Afghanistan. Iran is determined to expand its regional influence. Tehran is the power broker in Iraq, Syria, and Lebanon and it’s no coincidence that the Houthis in Yemen are backed by the Iranians and neither is it a coincidence that Iran is rumored to be funneling weapons and money to its old enemy the Taliban in Afghanistan. This is about checking the spread of Sunni extremism and, concurrently, curtailing and diminishing Saudi influence. While Iran and the Taliban make for strange bedfellows (the militants are, after all, Sunni extremists), Tehran is determined to check the spread of Islamic State and with the IRGC, Hezbollah, and the Quds-controlled Shiite militias already fighting ISIS on two fronts (Syria and Iraq), the Ayatollah isn’t particularly thrilled about the prospect of an expanded ISIS presence on its eastern border. Supporting the Taliban in Afghanistan (with whom Iran nearly went to war in 1998), should help to check ISIS gains in the country and has the added benefit of keeping the US off guard which itself speaks to how quickly alliances can change as it was just 12 years ago that Iran assisted the US in picking Taliban and al-Qaeda targets (read more here).

As for ISIS, the official line is that everyone is an enemy. The Taliban are led by “illiterate warlords,” al-Qaeda are “a bunch of donkeys”, the Houthis are heretics as are the Iranians, the Saudis are just plain in the way in Yemen, and everyone else is an infidel. Of course there’s no telling what the group’s leadership really thinks given the support they undoubtedly receive from any number of states governed by “nonbelievers,” but we’ll leave that aside for now.

Ok, so why are we telling you this? Because on Sunday, ISIS killed the governor of the Yemeni port city of Aden in what amounts to the group’s most brazen attack in the country to date. As WSJ reports, “in a statement distributed on social media and translated by the extremist-tracking SITE Intelligence Group, an Aden-based branch of Islamic State claimed responsibility for a suicide car bomb that killed governor Jaafar Saad and several of his guards as his convoy traveled through the city.”

Sunday's explosion could be heard about 10 km (seven miles) away," Reuters reports. "Medics said the body of Saad and the others who were killed were burned beyond recognition." In a statement ISIS said it detonated a car packed with explosives as Saad's convoy drove by. The group promised more operations against "the heads of apostasy in Yemen". Here's the statement: (photo)

Whether or not an expanded ISIS presence in Yemen will benefit the Saudi cause largely depends on whether the Houthis become Islamic State's main target in the country, or whether they intend to wage a protracted war against pro-Hadi forces.

If you can’t control your words you can’t control your actions and Erdogan might just happen to be a prime example of that. I just keep wondering when this supreme Sultan Wannebe will totally lose it and act and go the way Georgia went.

Now he is building a base in Iraq. And for what, despite all odds he is still convinced that Syria and Iraq is going to get Balkanized and he is getting a piece from it? Or is it way of somehow securing ISIS oil income and import or maybe yet again some cheap provocation they need in order to sell their war against the SAA? What is it? Maybe all three?

Does he realize that the 4+1 coalition is much bigger than the SAA and that this coalition may extent a much broader and wider war when they will be forced to do. What is he going to do if Iraq uses show of force to protects its sovereignty.

I would consider Erdogan a wild card. They just don’t know when they have lost and with that it can only escalate further.

Below are pictures of the aftermath of the aggression of the US-led coalition on a location of the Syrian army in Deir Ezzor.

The bombardment from the missile was directed accurately to cause the destruction of vehicles and mechanisms of the army, the fatalities of soldiers and the wounding of others. The elite forces in the Syrian army managed to repel the ISIS attack immediately after the bombing stopped, which led to many terrorist losses of large equipment and many personnel, with the attack being disrupted.

While trying to find more news resources on the Russian intervention led by Putin I realized a confusion of acronyms although they are familiar mostly by repetition after awhile.

A new acronym for me is IG. I was looking for other sources of news and ran across the IG acronym and realized that it is another term for ISIS, IS, ISIL DAESH etc.

If you would like to refresh your memory or clarify the assorted acronyms here is a short video that may help:

ISIS vs. Daesh: What's in a Name?

https://youtu.be/lBUZWMmyJxA

The acronym that bothered me most was IG for which I still haven't found any formal definition other than by it's use in context. The acronym IG is hinted at in the video above as the associated press choice of the Islamic State Group although it seems to equate to IS for others (confusing?).

Here is an example of a recent use of IG that I found and although it is about Afghanistan I think it illustrates the meaning the best:

The Times reported the capture of militants IG areas in eastern Afghanistan

December 5, 2015
About 1.6 thousand militants sworn allegiance to the terrorist group “Islamic State” (IG) seized part of the four provinces of Afghanistan located in the east of the country. About this newspaper The Times. It is noted that the objective of the terrorists – the creation of a new province “caliphate” on the border with Pakistan.

According to the publication the extremists quietly entered the country and then announced the acquisition of territory – just as it was in Iraq and Syria. It is reported that the operation of the militants in the region is carried out for a long time. Islamists headed to one of the largest cities in Afghanistan – Jalalabad. Terrorists shoot civilians use of torture and execution some of which were recorded on video it is noted in the text. Thousands of Afghan families had to leave their homes.

The publication relates the successful promotion of the IG with the withdrawal of British and American troops from Afghanistan as well as a split within the movement “Taliban”. It is noted that the militants are closely related to the “Taliban” and “Al Qaeda” defected to the IG.

“Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant” a terrorist group that emerged in Iraq and has achieved success in the civil war in Syria that led to her reformatting expansion and attainment of a common name in today abbreviations IG (“Islamic State”) and return to Iraq. During the offensive in the summer of 2014 the IG in a short time to capture a significant portion of northern Iraq – only a few days fell Mosul and Tikrit and on June 12 gunmen came to Baghdad at least 100 kilometers. Part of the territory of the Arab Republic where in 2011 a civil war gunmen seized IG and “Dzhabhat en-Nusra.” Extremists announced the creation of an “Islamic caliphate” in the controlled territories in Syria and Iraq.

Activity groups IG “Taliban” “Al Qaeda” and “Al-Nusra Dzhabhat” banned in Russia.

As confusing as IG is, it might help to catch relevant information knowing that is is synonymous with IS, ISIS, ISIL, DAESH etc... :/

BREAKING:

Syrian High Command Confirms Western Coalition Attacking Government Forces

http://sputniknews.com/middleeast/20151209/1031456311/syria-airstrikes-russia.html

The Syrian General Staff has provided information revealing Western coalition strikes against Syrian troop positions in Deir az-Zor on December 6, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

Syrian General Staff information shows strikes against Syrian troop positions in Deir az-Zor on December 6 were carried out by western coalition, according to the Russian Defense Ministry.

The Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Igor Konashenkov also denied foreign media reports that Russia was setting up new airbases in Syria:

“Information first came from a hardly famous Kuwaiti newspaper that was picked up by Reuters of the alleged deployment of a new Russian airbase near the populated area of Shairat. You don’t have to be a bright military expert in order to understand that it only takes 30-40 minutes for any Russian airplane to reach the furthest point in Syria from the Hmeimim airbase, where the Russian aviation group is based.”

Russia censures Turkey's troop deployment to Iraq as 'reckless'

http://www.presstv.com/Detail/2015/12/09/440932/Russia-UN-Turkey-Iraq-Churkin

Russia’s ambassador to the United Nations (UN) has slammed Turkey’s controversial troop deployment to Iraq as ‘reckless and inexplicable.’

“We believe that Turkey has acted recklessly and inexplicably, carrying out additional deployments on the territory of Iraq without the consent of the Iraqi government,” Vitaly Churkin told reporters following a closed-door session of the UN Security Council on Tuesday, adding that he had raised the issue during the meeting.

“They gave explanations saying basically that all that was in the interest of fighting against ISIL (Daesh) and in the interest of Iraq,” Churkin said, adding, “So if that is the case, why not ask for the permission of the government of Iraq?”

The Russian official called Turkey’s action a reflection of the “lack of legality” in the airstrikes in Syria by the so-called US-led coalition purportedly fighting Daesh.

Turkey ‘now on UN Security Council radars’

Churkin expressed regret that the Council failed to agree on Russia’s proposal to issue a statement reaffirming the need to respect international law and sovereignty.

“But now the situation is within the focus of the attention of the Security Council, so we hope it will help resolve the situation to the satisfaction of the Iraqi government, whose sovereignty, territorial integrity and independence will be respected,” Churkin said.

Iraq’s UN Ambassador Mohamed Ali al-Hakim, who also attended the meeting, seemed to downplay the row between his country and Turkey, saying that bilateral talks between Ankara and Baghdad over the issue are going on “very well.”

Al-Hakim’s soft remarks at the UN came even as other Iraqi officials, including Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, had adopted a much tougher rhetoric over the Turkish invasion of the Arab country. Abadi had even set a 48-hour deadline for Ankara to withdraw the military forces from Iraqi territory – an ultimatum that was quietly ignored – and had put the air force on alert. The tough talk, however, did not seem to be backed up by real resources of power, and Iraq’s only realistic recourse seemed to be limited to diplomacy only.

On December 4, Turkey deployed some 150 soldiers, equipped with heavy weapons and backed by 20 to 25 tanks, to the outskirts of the city of Mosul, the capital of Iraq’s Nineveh Province.

Ankara claimed the deployment was part of a mission to train and equip Iraqi forces in the fight against Daesh terrorists. Baghdad, however, strongly condemned the invasion, branding the uncoordinated act a violation of Iraq’s national sovereignty.

Turkey said on Tuesday that it would stop new troop deployments to Iraq but refused to withdraw the forces already there, as demanded by Baghdad.

The northern and western parts of Iraq have been plagued by violence ever since Daesh began its march through the territory in June 2014. Iraqi army soldiers and Popular Mobilization units have been engaged in joint operations to take back the militant-held regions.

‘Embarrassing to defend’: US general blasts Raytheon’s GPS control system a ‘disaster’
https://www.rt.com/usa/325175-raytheon-gps-embarrassing-disaster/

A top-brass US Air Force general has openly criticized a new ground control system for GPS satellites built by Raytheon, calling them a ‘disaster’, condemning their defense contractor for bloating budgets while not delivering anything functional on time.

The system in question – GPS OCX – is the ground-based command and control network that will manage GPS satellites with significantly improved accuracy and precision, while providing unprecedented levels of cyber protection.

In theory, the new system will allow for the complete control of the newest GPSIII satellites that will be used by the US armed forces to carry out precision strikes and deliver services to the commercial industry.

The general was furious over the fact that despite an additional two-year delay in completing its development, and a skyrocketing 80.5 percent cost increase, Raytheon has failed to offer anything that the Air Force asked for when the $866 million project was commissioned. Now, US tax payers have spent $1.6 billion on a project with questionable results.

Turkish jets strike Kurdish positions in Iraq amid rising tension between Ankara & Baghdad

Turkey, or rather the Turkey controlled by Erdogan, is just going off the rails. This direction, for lack of better words, smacks of the kind of signing-a-blank-check used to manipulate Saddam Hussein into aggression against Kuwait.

These god damned evil idiots, excuse my language, really just get totally fixated on what is supposed to happen, and they just can't change direction, can they?

It is absolutely certain that the Russians were ready for a long, strange ride when they chose this moment to make a stand. I am sure they understood how strange and ugly it could get. I can't help but wonder what it must be like to be in their situation, making decisions within this set of parameters, with these stakes at play and with these shifting circumstances everyday. If I prayed, I would pray that Putin and his advisers are able to get some sleep from time to time. I am not kidding one single bit when I say that.
