Sense8

All in all I think it stimulates the emotional center like no other series, at least it does for me.
Perhaps this is because the theme appeals to the intrinsic loneliness and sense of isolation from the source every normal human being is suffering from OSIT.

The sex and drugs element turned me off. I got about half-way through the Christmas episode and decided I'd had enough propaganda.

Something about this series feels creepy. It could serve well as a brochure for the "New Earth Vacation Resort and Pleasure Dome" as marketed to alien clients.

The characters all fit the hybrid profile.

Ditto. The holiday episode was nothing but an unnecessary partying porn fest. I felt the same way but I decided to give season 2 a look at anyway and I must say they did tone down the sex and nudity big time (at least for this show it was) and they concentrated on the story line much more than before imo. They ended it with a nice cliff hanger too. If they can keep the show running this way without all the unnecessary stuff it might not turn out to be too bad after all.

Unfortunately, Netflix has just canceled the series ! :(

Five seasons were planned, and the absence of final arouses the anger of the fans. On Twitter, threats of cancellation of subscription multiply.
A petition has been posted online.

Petition? It sounds like "please, I am beginng you, give me my daily dose of bread and circuses" aka my daily poison because the only way I can find any fullfilement is through projected life of imaginary charachters. People tend to give more attention to imagineries to the point of forgetting realities. Fascinating in a way.

Yes in some way, but consider also the mercantilism of our society which don't ever matter to complete something. One can hardly find an unfinished book, unless the author dies in the meantime.

The addicts to the series have won: Netflix has agreed to a double final episode of two hours which should be broadcast next year.

“Improbably, unforeseeably, your love has brought Sense8 back to life,” series co-creator Lana Wachowski said today about the drama that Netflix cancelled on June 1.

Lana continues to write a script for a possible season 3.
Fans are happy to have an end, but many continue to claim a real season.

And recently, to the surprise, a porn website has just offered to produce the next season. :umm:

“We recently read that you’re working on a third season of Sense8 despite the fact that Netflix has no plans to renew the series,” writes Hawkins. “We know it’s unconventional, but we want to bring it back — on xHamster. We’re not talking about a parody, or something less than, but an actual revival of the series.”

“xHamster is currently one of the most trafficked websites on the internet. We get more visitors daily than the New York Times, ESPN or the Daily Mail. In short, we have the eyeballs and the revenue. Unlike with Netflix, you wouldn’t be competing for part of our production budget – it would be yours.”

“xHamster has a long history of fighting for the rights of sexual speech, and non-normative sexuality. In addition to allowing billions of users to connect with individual articulations of gender and sexuality, we continue to use our audience to speak up against repressive anti-LGBTQ laws in the US and abroad, and for sex ed in public schools, Planned Parenthood and the rights of sex workers.”

An opportunity for the Wachowski and fans of the series. But a bit disturbing to consider that it is the sex scenes that could save the series. Not to mention the LGBTQ promotion, the sexual subversion in young people and the disruption of the family cells that go with it.

I too was surprised at the cancellation of this show, but acknowledge the reason given (it was expensive - therefore not financially viable for Netflix?). I'm sure it is expensive to produce, filmed as it is over many locations all around the world. The production costs would have been significant.

However it was popular, dealing as it did, with many contentious issues such as sex, gender identity (although I don't think it 'promotes' LGBTG lifestyle) and drugs. But most contentious of all was perhaps the shadow' elite who regularly victimize members of the 8 in the cluster in an attempt to control them, destroy them, or stop them co-operating. Many of the situations the characters find themselves in are actually quite funny in a slapstick kind of way. It also has lots of profanity.

As you said, it is sad to see that the industry that might well fund such a confronting show in the future should be pornography. I wonder how much 'artistic' control Lana will cede or be allowed to have if this is the case?

This looks like a natural progression; the prostituting of human youth. It's logical that the porn industry should step in with funding.

I think the Elite v The Good Guys element is overstated. The show romanticizes modern liberal values. -I saw in another thread how a poster used a fictional depiction from this show (where the mother of one of the gender-flipped characters refused to stop using the character's given male name) as an example of "violence" and an emotionally charged justification for continued SJW activities. I think that's the whole point of this kind of media.

Just more TV "programming".
