The Dot Connector Magazine Joins Forces With SOTT.net!

Hi,

I am on a two years subscription for the PDF edition.
I performed a money transfer directly, no PayPal and no DCM website login/subscription.

The question: ¿how do I receive this PDF?
- You remember me and a copy is sent via email
- I ask for it here on the forum, for each number.

Thanks in advance,
Jordi

We sent you an e-mail awhile ago, but it appears you did not receive it. I'm not sure how well that's going to work for our plan, which was:

When the print edition of a new issue is available, we will e-mail you a copy of the PDF.

:)

Anyway, I was just wondering since I just signed up tonight if I'll be getting the issue 13 for my first one, or will it be issue 14?

You'll be getting issue 13, since it is being printed at the moment.

Awesome! Good to know! Thank you Ailén!

Something funny that happened today. Where I live, the mailman doesn't bring your letters to your house mail box, we have community mailbox center on our street, with a whole bunch of mailboxes with a special key. So we went to check our mail today (like we do every week day) and the key to our mail box wouldn't work, as if the lock had been changed. So we call our post branch and the lady basically said she had no idea what was going on, and had not heard anything about it. She gave us a case # and told us that the main branch manager will be calling us tomorrow to discuss the situation.

I wonder what he will say...

I want to update ya'll in case this has been or will be an issue for anyone else.

I just subsribed to the DCM with a prepaid Visa and that appears to have worked. In the process I got connected through paypal and opened an account.

Then I tried to order some books/DVDs but for some reason then prepaid Visa would not work? The error says that the card would not allow them to check billing/address details, and of course since it is prepaid there is no address associated with the card. BUT, it appears to have worked for the Dot Connector subscription, so why not other orders?

Just curious and FYI.

PS - I think in the future I will just send money orders. I still am trying to get the book and DVD ordered though.

I saw the link at sott.net. nice graphics! could be a little slower transitioning so I could view the text and pictures without it being rushed. 'cause it sure is awesome. I'm sure other people might agree.

Anyways-- for some reason I feel the need to raise this point. I think-- I want 'you guys', all the people involved with the dot connector, to get some return for their effort. If some money went to FOTCM activities, that would be great. but then, I feel a two year subscription is cheating a little bit. you know, someone pays eighty euros but then... there is no guarantee for the next two years that a magazine will be issued every other month. I imagine it is quite a lot of work... and knowing the amount of other work to be done... okay, also earth changes, it seems a two year subscription could be deceptive.

this lead me to the idea that there could be a recurring subscription feature. every month the cost of one magazine is charged the the account. and you can cancel at any time. I think other people might appreciate this offer and be more willing "subscribe". its a lot less pressuring than 40 euros upfront, and signs readers might more willingly go for it. not sure how hard or worth it this would be to implement...

the negative is that "the dot connector" doesn't get this sum of money from the start. but this should not matter if the money is being handled responsibly i.e being used to ensure the dot connector can be running for the next two years to produce x amount of issues.

Have you had any luck since you wrote this Herakles? Which website were you trying to order them through?

It's rather fast toward the end, especially for those whose language is not english.
I think it would be better perceived if you would slow it down a little bit.

Well, first of all, I'd say that if something like earth changes cause us to stop publishing The Dot Connector, then things would have to be pretty bad. In such a scenario, all bets are off. There may not be money, or food, or fuel to keep warm. In that case, The Dot Connector would be in the same position as every other magazine publisher - or any other organization out there that offers a periodic service. I don't think that counts as "cheating" anyone. No one knows what will happen, and we certainly aren't going to sit around on our hands waiting for The End! :)

As for the "pay as you go" subscription option, the price for such a service would be the same per issue as the price on the DCM online store. Technically speaking, it would be a bit of work to integrate such a subscription into our existing subscription-tracking software. So, if someone wants to buy one issue at a time, the idea is that they can simply go to http://www.thedotconnector.org/mag/ and purchase each issue as they are released. The end result is the same. Many people already do this. Sometimes, if money is tight, they wait for the PDF version to be released, and then purchase that instead since it's cheaper (but released later than the print version).

I should also note that even with the income DCM gets from subscriptions, writers are usually not paid anything for their work. The money goes back into printing the magazine, and we distribute many copies for free to certain groups and individuals. We also send off quite a few copies for promotional purposes. As with Sott.net and our other ventures/adventures, the people who work on such projects certainly don't do it for the money. With something like a magazine, it is A LOT of work, especially considering the quality of the final product - in terms of both physical appearance and content.

But, I would say it's worth it. And from the responses we've been getting lately from readers, I'd say everyone else agrees.

Hi Kniall,

Nope, no luck in terms of successfully using the prepaid. I ordered DCM from the link off of SOTT. But to order the DVD I tried both QFG publishing and the EE website, neither instance worked.

Eventually I did manage to get the order placed but only by using someone elses credit card and swapping out the prepaid visa with them.

So as far as prepaid visa issues, they dont work very well for online ordering.

As far as getting the DVD and book I wanted to order, THIS has been succesful as described above.

Cheers.

A couple of questions regarding DCM...

1. What is expected delivery time within the U.S.? I ask because my location changes frequently and at times without much notice.

2. Is there some sort of package deal if one wanted to buy, say 6 or all of the back issues?

Delivery time to the US is usually about 1 week. There's no package deal for back issues, but as you can see from this page

http://www.thedotconnector.org/mag/index.php?_a=viewCat&catId=3

most of the back issues are out of stock anyway, although the best ones, i.e. from issue 10on, are in stock apart form issue 10 itself, although we may be able to procure you a copy of issue 10 if you really want one.

The Dot Connector Magazine Issue 13 Ready For Orders and To Ship!

DCM013.jpg

If you haven't got a subscription yet, please consider it seriously. Alternatively, you can order just this single issue for 6.95. It is excellent value for money being a BUMPER issue with 130 pages!!

In terms of quantity this issue really is book-sized, and it of course retains the waaaaay above standard of writing and insight. So at 6.95 it really is a great deal!

Ditto! I am waiting for this issue with bated breath. Really. :) I can't wait to read all of the great articles in it, especially what Dr. Psyche has to say about the Black Death.

You all do a fantastic job with this magazine. Everybody should be subscribing. Those who don't are really missing out.
