Trump era: Fascist dawn, or road to liberation?

No doubt about it. The Mueller's hearing was an absolute dumpster fire for the Democrats. I was listening live to most of it at work, and just from the opening remarks of each committee member, you could tell the team. Fawning from the Dems, respect for the office but tough questions from the Repubs. I read somewhere that Mueller declined to answer around 200 questions throughout the day. That was bad enough. But when he said he didn't know who Fusion GPS was, the collective jaw drop was deafening. Then and there it was pretty clear that he had almost nothing to do with writing the report. It's been said all along that Andrew Weissman was the driving force behind it. He's been criticized for extending a legal clause beyond its meaning to justify a collusion charge.

Trump speaks in front of fake presidential seal mysteriously manipulated to feature Russian eagles and golf clubs

Donald Trump appeared at a right-wing rally in front of a fake presidential seal, doctored to make apparently satiric references to Russia and golf.

The tweaked image flashed up on a screen behind the president as he spoke to a summit hosted by the conservative group Turning Point USA in Washington earlier this week.

The normally solitary bald eagle was seen with two heads, made to resemble the two-headed bird on the official Russian coat of arms in a mocking nod to Mr Trump’s woes with investigations into Moscow’s election meddling.

The symbolic bird also showed up clutching a bag of golf clubs – evidently a joke about the president’s fondness for spending so much time on the links.

Both the White House and Turning Point USA said they were unaware of why or how the altered image appeared on the screen.

A spokesman for Turning Point USA told The Washington Post it was a “last-minute A/V [audio/visual] mistake” after the newspaper first highlighted the doctored seal.

“I can’t figure out who did it yet. I don’t know where they got the image from,” he added, explaining they organization was still try to determine who was responsible and where they got the image from.

Richard Painter, who served as the George W Bush administration’s chief White House ethics lawyer, told the Post: “To let someone project something on the screen that isn’t controlled by the White House is pretty stupid.”

He added: “Someone is going to be getting in trouble, but they got one heck of a good laugh out of it.”

Mr Painter explained that First Amendment freedom of expression rights allowed people to parody the official presidential seal.

Kathleen Clark, legal professor at Washington University, said: “Was someone at Turning Point trolling Trump? I just think Putin would probably approve.”

WASHINGTON – Speaking on Tuesday at a student activist conference hosted by the conservative advocacy organization Turning Point USA, President Donald Trump walked onstage in front of a presidential seal that, upon closer examination, appears to have been altered to include symbols representing Russia and golf.

The Washington Post first reported on the altered seal. As Trump walked onstage to a cheering audience, two presidential seals flashed on screen. The seal directly behind Trump was the authentic presidential seal. One of the seals, however, was not like the others.

Upon closer examination, the seal on Trump's right includes a double-headed eagle, unlike the single head of the traditional presidential seal, and seems to resemble the Russian coat of arms. The seal has a complex history, notes the Victoria and Albert Museum, but one of the more common interpretations is that the two heads represent east and west, "an allegory sometimes for unity, and sometimes for absolute monarchy." It could be a reference to Trump's sometimes-controversial relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The eagle also appears to be holding several golf clubs instead of arrows in its claws, perhaps a reference to Trump's affinity for golf.

Additionally, instead of "e pluribus unum," the scroll above the eagle appears to say "45 es un titere," which appears to translate from Spanish to mean "45 is a puppet."

It is not clear where the image originated, though, or who was responsible for the mixup.

On Wednesday, Trump tweeted a video of his appearance at the event that included a shot of the seal.

White House to fight ruling blocking asylum rule

The White House said on Thursday it would fight a federal judge's decision blocking the Trump administration from enforcing a new rule that aimed to bar almost all asylum applications at the U.S.-Mexico border.

16 Marines arrested at Camp Pendleton on charges ranging from human smuggling to drug-related offenses

Sixteen U.S. Marines were arrested on Thursday morning for their alleged involvement in activities ranging from human smuggling to drug-related offenses, the Marine Corps said.

The arrests were carried out by officials from 1st Marine Division and the Naval Criminal Investigative Service during an 800-person battalion formation at Camp Pendleton in California.

"Information gained from a previous human smuggling investigation precipitated the arrests," the Marines said in a statement.

A spokesperson for 1st Marine Division confirmed to ABC News that a case of two Marines charged with human smuggling earlier this month "identified the allegations" against the individuals involved in Thursday's arrests.

The 16 Marines were part of 1st Battalion 5th Marines, an infantry battalion that was preparing for deployment overseas, the spokesperson said. The Marines arrested were all low-ranking enlisted males, ranging between private first class and corporal.

Eight additional Marines were taken in for questioning on their possible involvement in alleged drug offenses, unrelated to Thursday's arrests.

"1st Marine Division is committed to justice and the rule of law, and we will continue to fully cooperate with NCIS on this matter," the statement said. "Any Marines found to be in connection with these alleged activities will be questioned and handled accordingly with respect to due process."

The Marines said that none of the 16 Marines who were arrested were part of the Defense Department's deployment of troops to the southern border.

Earlier this month, two Marines were charged after allegedly trying to smuggle undocumented immigrants for "financial gain," according to court documents from the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of California.

Byron Darnell Law II and David Javier Salazar-Quintero were arrested on July 3 after Border Patrol agents intercepted them transporting three Mexican citizens without immigration documents in their vehicle approximately seven miles north of the U.S.-Mexico border and 20 miles east of the Tecate, California, port of entry. Two of the immigrants later told agents they were going to pay $8,000 to be smuggled into the U.S. with destinations of Los Angeles and New Jersey, officials said.

Law and Salazar-Quintero are among several active-duty service members who have been charged in recent years in connection with helping immigrants cross the border in exchange for financial benefit, according to the Washington Post.

What's The Deal With Army Helicopters Flying A Secret New Mission Over The Capital?
https%3A%2F%2Fapi.thedrive.com%2Fwp-content%2Fuploads%2F2019%2F07%2Fhelos.jpg%3Fquality%3D85

July 22, 2019 - The U.S. Army has been quietly conducting a new classified operation involving at least 10 UH-60 Black Hawks in and around Washington, D.C., for months. This mission came to light after the service asked Congress to shift $1.55 million in funds from one part of its budget to another in order to support the operations and maintenance of the helicopters.

Bloomberg was first to report on this "emerging classified flight mission" after obtaining an Army reprogramming request. The $1.55 million for this operation is part of a broader request to funnel approximately $2.5 billion in total from various parts of the service's budget to other areas that it feels are of greater importance. By law, all the branches of the U.S. military have to ask permission to reallocate funds that Congress has already approved for other purposes.

"Soldiers from assault helicopter company and aviation maintenance units will be supporting the mission with 10 UH-60s and maintenance capabilities for four months," the request says, according to Bloomberg. "Without additional funding, the Army will not be able to perform this classified mission."

The document does not identify any units specifically or offer any details about the classified operation itself. Wayne Hall, an Army spokesperson, declined to offer any additional specifics to Bloomberg, but did say that the mission had begun early in the 2019 Fiscal Year, which started on Oct. 1, 2018, and had an "undetermined" end date.

However, the $1.55 million would also pay for the construction of a new “Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility," or SCIF, at Davison Army Airfield, which is part of Fort Belvoir in Virginia. SCIF is a term used to refer to offices or other structures built to exacting government standards so that the occupants can handle and discuss classified information inside without being heard of having that data seen or otherwise intercepted. You can read more about SCIF requirements and how they work in this past War Zone piece.

Google Earth Davison Army Airfield at Fort Belvoir in Virginia.

The SCIF, together with the mention of the Black Hawks, strongly points to the unit in question being the Army's relatively obscure 12th Aviation Battalion, which is based at Davison. This unit flies a mix of UH-72 Lakota light utility helicopters and UH-60s, including a handful of modified and luxurious VIP-configured "Gold Top" Black Hawks. The 12th is part of what is known today as The Army Aviation Brigade, or TAAB, which also includes a fixed-wing VIP aviation detachment and ground support elements, including air traffic controllers, to manage operations at Davison or other locations, as necessary.

The battalion's primary day-to-day job is providing helicopter airlift support in the greater Washington, D.C. area, which the U.S. government refers to as the National Capital Region (NCR). This can include shuttling senior officials from the Army and other branches of the U.S. military around, as well as members of Congress and visiting foreign dignitaries, depending on the exact mission at hand. The 12th is one of a number of U.S. military aviation units, which you can read about in more detail here, which conduct these types of missions in and around the nation's capital.

On top of that, the 12th has a far less well-known mission as part of the U.S. government's extensive "continuity of government" planning to keep running in the event of a major disaster, widespread enemy attack, or other crises. In such a scenario, the battalion would help fly top lawmakers and other senior U.S. government officials to secure sites, including Camp David, Mount Weather, and Raven Rock. You can read more about the U.S. continuity of government planning in this past feature at The War Zone.

The 12th is also responsible for providing airlift for the Army's unique 911th Engineer Company (Technical Rescue), the service's premier urban search and rescue unit. The 911th would be critical to helping extract important officials from damaged or collapsed buildings in any contingency. Previously known as the Military District of Washington (MDW) Engineer Company, the unit notably had a chance to demonstrate its capabilities while supporting the response to the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the Pentagon. They're also the only unit tasked to provide this kind of support at the White House.

US Army - Members of the 911th Engineer Company signal a UH-60 Black Hawk from the 12th Aviation Battalion during sling load training at Davison Army Airfield in July 2019.

What's curious in this case is that Army spokesperson Hall confirmed that the mission that the reprogramming request is referencing is new and has, at most, been ongoing for almost 10 months. This might mean that the Army has expanded its role in the continuity of government plan, or that that planning itself has evolved in some way, but it could also reflect the service taking on an entirely new mission.

Since 9/11 and the establishment of U.S. Northern Command (NORTHCOM) in 2002, the U.S. military has also taken on greater domestic roles in general. At the same time, as The War Zone has explored on multiple occasions, the extent of the U.S. military's activities in the Washington, D.C. area, as well domestically within the United States, in general, can be difficult to assess. These missions can involve some of the most secretive special operations units, as well as personnel from other federal, state, and local government agencies.

This world of domestic military operations, and even training exercises, can be so nebulous that even Congress has found itself unsure as to the scope of this activity in the past. In 2014, lawmakers said that they would withhold funding for U.S. Special Operations Command's top unit in the National Capital Region – referred to variously as SOCOM-National Capital Region (SOCOM-NCR), the Joint Interagency Task Force-National Capital Region (JIATF-NCR), or simply the Interagency Task Force – until they got a clear report describing its roles and missions.

Still, there have been developments that may offer some clues as to what kinds of expanded or new missions the 12th, or even a new Army helicopter unit in the NCR, might be tasked with now. In 2016, SOCOM also became the lead entity within the U.S. military if there is a need to neutralize a hostile weapon of mass destruction (WMD), either abroad or the United States, taking over this mission from U.S. Strategic Command (STRATCOM). SOCOM subsequently established a Counter-Weapons of Mass Destruction-Fusion Center (CWMD-FC), which The War Zone was first to report, at an unspecified location within the NCR.

Then there's also SOCOM's own theater command aligned with NORTHCOM, Special Operations Command North (SOCNORTH), to handle special operations, including counter-terrorism activities, across North America. Just days before the revelation of the Army's new classified domestic mission in Washington, D.C., a contracting announcement indicated that SOCNORTH's dedicated Crisis Response Team (CRT) is also in the process of improving its capabilities. The CRT is based much further west at Peterson Air Force Base in Colorado, which is also where NORTHCOM's headquarters is located.

The CRT recently received six modified Chevy Suburban communications vehicles from the White House Military Office (WHMO) and is in the process of reconfiguring them to better support their operations, according to a recent contracting announcement. These vehicles are very likely ex-command and control and communications vehicles, also known as Roadrunners, that commonly accompany the Presidential motorcade, something The War Zone has previously covered in depth.

The White House Communications Agency, part of the WHMO, recently obtained new Ford Super Duty-based vehicles with a much more powerful communications and data-sharing suite, that The War Zone was the first to report on in detail. This likely freed up some of the Roadrunners to go to other agencies that were interested in them, such as SOCNORTH.
https%3A%2F%2Fs3-us-west-2.amazonaws.com%2Fthe-drive-cms-content-staging%2Fmessage-editor%252F1563824040173-super-duty.jpg

The Armor Group - The White House Communications Agency's new communications vehicles are modified Ford Super Duties, similar to the one seen in this picture. The White House versions notably feature a large satellite communications dome on top.

These civilian style vehicles could be ideal for more discreet operations, including in urban areas within the United States, though there's no mistaking that they have a specialized purpose given the array of antennas on top. SOCNORTH's CRT plans to convert the vehicles to use a new suite of military radios and satellite communications systems, but this will still require distinctive antenna arrays.

NORTHCOM, as a whole, has a major counter-terrorism focus. The command runs a major counter-terrorism exercise each year called Vital Archer, which includes participants from other U.S. government agencies, as well as foreign emergency management and security services.

The Army's new secret mission might also involve providing aviation support, including surveillance of particular targets or critical sites, to other domestic agencies engaged in domestic counter-terrorism missions. The service's Black Hawks could also be assisting in some way with NORTHCOM's other standing mission sets, including counter-narcotics and guarding America's borders, though it's not clear why this would necessarily be limited to the NCR.

Of course, even though the Army's new classified D.C. area mission may not have a clear endpoint, it may still be a shorter-term mission in response to intelligence regarding a more specific potential threat or another similar near-term requirement. In the past few years, there has been a seeming uptick in U.S. military units, as well as federal law enforcement tactical teams, training or otherwise operating in urban areas within the United States, or at least an increase in people taking notice of these activities.

In the Washington, D.C. area, this has coincided with a reported increase in noise complaints about government helicopters and other aircraft flying over residential areas. News of a new Army aviation mission in the capital region could spur new criticism from residents in this regard.

But whether or not the Army is now engaged in a new, secretive long-term mission or has gotten new orders in response to more immediate concerns, we know the service's aviation elements in and around the nation's capital have expanded the scope of their critical duties, at least for the moment.

Side-note:

Another Mueller analysis by the Bombard lady. I agree with her, Mueller doesn't appear demented or fragile...it was apparently just an act that he put on at various moments. My guess is that he tried to guard and save himself from the wrath by both parties by acting 'stupid' and 'senile'. He might have also been fearful of possible repercussions if he'd let slip out something legally compromising. Of course, some of the 'Qanons' think that he's part of 'The Plan', that he is Trump's double agent...:-P

On the other hand, if Mueller would be a gung-ho advocate for impeachment, you'd think that he would have sided more with the Democrats' reasoning. Now it looked like he gave more ammunition for the Republican team – intentionally or not?

Perhaps he's just simply egocentric and is trying to save his own skin by acting stupid.

I’m unsure if this has been posted previously elsewhere, so this might be a repost. In any case, this analysis by ‘Bombard’ on ‘The Squad’ hierarchy was very interesting.

One of Bombards best I think! Very revealing. As she pointed these things out about the women, it was obvious she was right. I wonder about the woman in the gold jacket though. Don’t know her name. What was said about her, was less obvious to me. She did seem to be standing off to the side and not really a part of the group. If she wants to replace purple coat as leader, Maybe another battle will break out in The Squad! Get out the popcorn folks.:cool2: Thanks for posting.

Looks like the Military Industrial Complex's $-printing presses are running at peak capacity again ... full-speed-ahead - Captain!

The United States is planning to build additional military infrastructure in Australia once Congress gives approval to the U.S. Navy for $211.5 million, Australian Foreign Minister Marise Payne said on Tuesday.

Australia says U.S. plans to build military infrastructure

The plans for a bigger U.S. footprint in Australia come at a time when the Western allies have become increasingly concerned by China’s efforts to expand its influence in the Pacific.

“The development of facilities will support the Force Posture Initiatives,” Payne told Sky News, referring to agreements reached in 2011 between the United States and Australia to enhance their defense relationship.

Those initiatives entail 2,500 U.S. Marines training in Australia each year, and regular joint training between the allies’ air forces.

Payne did not say what military infrastructure the United States aimed to build, but Australian media reported earlier this month that Washington had plans for a new port facility near Darwin, the capital of Australia’s Northern Territory.

U.S. Marines deployed in an annual rotation for training are housed in an Australian base at Darwin.

“A port is the missing leg of the stool in U.S. military engagement with Australia,” said Euan Graham, director of the national security program, La Trobe University.

A U.S. embassy spokesman in Canberra declined to comment, and Australia’s Defense Department said it would expect concrete plans only when the proposal is approved by the U.S. Congress.

If the United States does build a port facility in Darwin it would be located near the Port of Darwin, which China’s Landbridge Group Co secured a 99-year lease over in 2015 - much to the annoyance of the United States.

Tensions between Washington and Beijing have escalated since the 2016 election of U.S. President Donald Trump, who ignited a trade war with China, while also increasing military exercises in the Asia-Pacific region.

Britain hosted a meeting of senior security ministers from the U.S.-led 'Five Eyes' intelligence alliance on Monday for talks on tackling cyber threats ranging from political hacking to child pornography.

British interior minister Priti Patel, appointed last week by British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, hosted the ministerial meeting to focus on emerging threats and how to deal with the “opportunities and risks” posed by new technologies.

Patel said in a statement that specific topics included cyber security, encryption and “online harms”.

“The UK is a global leader on national security and child protection and we are committed to working with our close partners on shared challenges,” Patel said.

According to Patel, at some point governmental participants will attend an industry roundtable to discuss “countering online child sexual exploitation and abuse” which will include discussions with Facebook, Google and Microsoft.

Last year, representatives of social media companies declined government invitations to participate in the same annual conference.

Facebook said it would attend the meeting this week. Google and Microsoft did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Security ministers from the Five Eyes alliance – Britain, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand - will attend the conference sessions on Monday and Tuesday.

The Five Eyes alliance evolved from a secret World War Two alliance between British and U.S. cypher and code breaking teams.

On Wednesday, top law enforcement officials from the Five Eyes countries, including U.S. Attorney General William Barr and his top national security enforcer, John Demers, will attend a related London meeting.

Recently Barr sparked controversy by suggesting that spy agencies may need new powers to monitor social media activity.

Trump has his blind spots, but it's a lot of fun to watch and listen him 'schooling' the journalists. During these moments, it's like he's the parent and the journalists are small toddlers asking naive questions. "I'm not angry, I'm not angry at anybody...I'm just pointing out the facts.", he says as they try to portray him as being angry at Cummings. Take a look:

Past evidence reveals that the Obama's were intensely spiteful-vindictive towards Trump, when they left the White House. It was never acknowledged - as to why Trump - had the Oval Office stripped down and completely renovated? During this time, Trump conducted official business and received visiting dignitaries at Mar-a-largo. After the Oval Office renovations were completed and Trump moved back to the White House, the first high ranking dignitary to visit the Oval Office was Russian Foreign Minister, Sergey Lavrov. The National Democratic Committee and long standing members of Congress - went ballistic! John McCain was doing double back-flips! How could Trump invite a Russian into the Oval Office - were some of the drum beats orchestrated in the media? The DNC demanded a full transcript on what was discussed and agreed to! VP Pence was absent from that meeting. For what I can determine, that was the beginning of the first "false claims" of Russian collusion? The rest is History, including the Mueller (2 year witch hunt) investigation.

In the past two weeks, there has been some intense "claims and counterclaims" in the media, between Trump and the Obama's. In this latest fiasco, Trump is placing blame on Obama for the air conditioning problems in the WH. Obama is using this latest skirmish to take pot-shots at Trump - while elevating himself in the realms "of Sainthood". There's indications that Trump "has had enough" and is now calling for a full investigation into Obama, especially his book deals. Trump wants Obama investigated - with the same intensity and pressure that was exerted on him! I think, the only one who "laid Obama bare" as to "who and what he truly was" in front of the media - was President Putin - while Obama was in his last months in Office!

Donald Trump Blames Barack Obama for the White House's Air Conditioning Issues
President Donald Trump | Chip Somodevilla/Getty

Donald Trump is airing his woes about the cooling system in the White House — and he thinks Barack Obama had something to do with it.

While speaking to reporters in the Oval Office on Friday, Trump, 73, revealed he would be spending time at his New Jersey golf club resort next month, but claimed that “it’s never a vacation” while he’s in Bedminster and said he would rather be at the White House, the Associated Press reports.

The president also argued that his time away from Capitol Hill would give maintenance crews an opportunity to fix the inadequate air conditioning system, which he insinuated was ruined by his predecessor.

“The Obama administration worked out a brand new air conditioning system for the West Wing,” he explained, according to AP. “It was so good before they did the system. Now that they did this system, it’s [either] freezing or hot.”

In addition to the air conditioning, Trump also claimed that the U.S. has “a much better economy than in [Obama’s] wildest dreams.”

He later suggested that authorities should look into the former president’s book deal with Penguin Random House instead of the Russian investigation involving former FBI Special Counsel Robert Mueller, Fox 5 D.C. reports.

“It’s a disgrace. We want to find out what happened with the last Democrat president. Let’s look into Obama the way they’ve looked at me from day one,” he said, according to the outlet. “They’ve looked into everything that we’ve done.”

“They could look into the book deal that President Obama made,” Trump continued. “Let’s subpoena all of his records.”

Obama, 57, has also previously taken aim at the current president. In October, at a Democratic campaign event in Milwaukee ahead of the midterms, Obama called out Trump’s failure “to take on corruption. Remember that?” he said.

“They have gone to Washington and just plundered away. In Washington, they have racked up enough indictments to field a football team,” Obama continued, before concluding, “Nobody in my administration got indicted.”

A month later — just two days before Trump’s former lawyer Michael Cohen pleaded guilty to lying to Congress about the Russia investigation after being charged by Mueller — the 44th commander in chief echoed his earlier sentiments stating, “Not only did I not get indicted, nobody in my administration got indicted.”

Obama continued, “By the way, it was the only administration in modern history that that can be said about. In fact, nobody came close to being indicted, probably because the people who joined us were there for the right reasons.”

Most recently, on Saturday, Obama appeared to reference Trump’s recent racist comments attacking four congresswomen of color when he tweeted a Washington Post op-ed written and signed by African-American members of his administration.

The op-ed spoke out against Trump’s tweets earlier this month telling four Democratic congresswomen of color to “go back and help fix the totally broken and crime-infested places from which they came” despite the majority of the women being born in America.

“I’ve always been proud of what this team accomplished during my administration,” Obama tweeted. “But more than what we did, I’m proud of how they’re continuing to fight for an America that’s better.”

President Donald Trump Calls For Investigation Into Obama Book Deals
1fa27fb5b22eb1b341989cf09000d771

Frustrated by continued efforts by the Democratic congress to find a reason to impeach him, President Donald Trump fought back today, saying that an investigation should be mounted on the book deals signed by former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.

The $65 million in multiple book deals spawned a best-seller for Michelle Obama, with Barack Obama’s memoir scheduled for some time next year.

Trump, speaking in the White House Oval Office on Friday, also called for an investigation into the Clinton Foundation, and put in a jab against Obama for ruining the White House air conditioning system, which he says can’t maintain a comfortable temperature.

The irritation by Trump was likely in response to the Democrats in the House Judiciary Committee stating that they were conducting an “impeachment investigation,” even after obtaining little new information from their big move, this week’s interrogation of Robert Mueller.

The Democrats today are now turning to have Mueller’s secret grand jury materials unsealed.

“All they want to do is impede. They want to investigate. They want to go fishing. And I watched Bob Mueller, and they have nothing,” Trump said. “There’s no collusion there’s no obstruction they have nothing. It’s a disgrace.”

The United States believes that Hamza bin Laden, a son of slain al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and himself a notable figure in the militant group, is dead, a U.S. official said on Wednesday.

U.S. believes Osama bin Laden's son Hamza is dead: official

July 31, 2019 - The U.S. official, who spoke on condition of anonymity, provided no further details, including when Hamza died or where.

President Donald Trump earlier on Wednesday declined to comment after NBC News first reported the U.S. assessment. Asked if he had intelligence that bin Laden’s son had been killed, Trump told reporters: “I don’t want to comment on it.”

Separately, the White House declined comment on whether any announcement was imminent.

Hamza, believed to be about 30 years old, was at his father’s side in Afghanistan before the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on the United States and spent time with him in Pakistan after the U.S.-led invasion of Afghanistan pushed much of al Qaeda’s senior leadership there, according to the Brookings Institution.

Osama bin Laden was killed by U.S. special forces who raided his compound in Pakistan in 2011. Hamza was thought to be under house arrest in Iran at the time, and documents recovered from the compound indicated that aides had been trying to reunite him with his father.

The New York Times reported that the United States had a role in the operation that led to Hamza’s death, which it said took place in the past two years. Reuters could not immediately verify those details.

Still, the U.S. government’s conclusion appears to be a recent one. In February, the State Department said it was offering a reward of up to $1 million for information leading “to the identification or location in any country” of Hamza, calling him a key al Qaeda leader.

Introduced by al Qaeda’s chief Ayman al-Zawahiri in an audio message in 2015, Hamza provided a younger voice for the group whose aging leaders have struggled to inspire militants around the world galvanized by Islamic State, according to analysts.

Hamza has called for acts of terrorism in Western capitals and threatened to take revenge against the United States for his father’s killing, the U.S. State Department said in 2017 when it designated him as a global terrorist.

He also threatened to target Americans abroad and urged tribal groups in Saudi Arabia to unite with Yemen’s al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula to fight against Saudi Arabia, it said.

In March, Saudi Arabia announced it had stripped Hamza bin Laden of his citizenship, saying the decision was made by a royal order in November 2018.

Putin thinks Trump's offer means that full-format bilateral relations will be restored

Major Fire Engulfs Oil Refinery in Texas, 37 Wounded

August 1, 2019 -A fire has broken out at an ExxonMobil oil refinery in Baytown, Texas, East of Houston, as local authorities have warned residents to close all doors and windows and turn off air conditioning as a precaution.

According to the KHOU 11 News broadcaster, at least 37 people were injured, including with burns.

In a statement, Texas-based ExxonMobil announced the fire occurred at its Olefins plant, which produces ethylene, a chemical used to make plastic and industrial products.

The company said it was conducting air quality monitoring “as a precaution” as well as “personal accounting” to ensure the safety of employees and contractors on the site, adding, “We deeply regret any disruption or inconvenience that this incident may have caused the community."

The Olefins plant is part of the company's 3,400-acre refinery complex in Baytown.

This is the third fire at a petrochemical facility in the area in recent months.

One person died in April when a tank holding flammable chemicals caught fire in Crosby, and a storage facility in Deer Park burned for several days in March.

Putin thinks Trump's offer means that full-format bilateral relations will be restored

Good. I was wondering if Trump would offer help with the fires. It's the decent thing to do and I would have been disappointed if the gesture wasn't made. Russia has helped US citizens in their time of need too:

Russia was actually one of the first nations to send humanitarian aid in the aftermath of 2005’s Hurricane Katrina. One of the worst natural disasters in US history, Katrina cost 1,836 people their lives and caused untold property damage. Russia donated more than 60 tons of supplies, including food rations, tents, blankets, medicine, a rescue helicopter, and a water purification system.

In 2012, Hurricane Sandy wrecked the East Coast. Sandy was responsible for 117 deaths in the US and billions in property damage, and Russia once again stepped in with humanitarian assistance—more than 50 tons in all. The former US Ambassador to Russia, Michael McFaul, tweeted, “Thank you for help, Russia.” The humanitarian assistance was carried out by EMERCOM, which is a federal international humanitarian agency based in Moscow.
