Trump era: Fascist dawn, or road to liberation?

Ok, so now he's tweeting happily about this.

But he baffles me, along with Tillerson.
Both have agreed that Russians meddled on TV.

Trump saying it was featured in Oliver Stone's Putin Interviews.

Tillerson on the show Meet the Press.

What's the point of doing this when it just made them look like bad guys in the eyes of Americans who were brainwashed already? I mean, even to this day after the fact, they still think Russians hacked or will hack us.

Now the new lies on Syria planning a chemical attack. Honestly, their timing of dropping this Russian thing is too convinient, now a new focus on Syria? Really Trump? Really Tillerson? (And especially you Tillie, you are very intelligent).

Checked with the local MSN to see how they were handling the Syrian story starting with Nikki Haley's speech de jour as the UN, and then moving along until the newscaster looked somewhat baffled and said something they never conveniently say when talking about Syria and chemical attacks - well, no evidence was presented, type of statement, while looking like a deer in the headlights. So yeah, there is no evidence to a lot of what the MSN says; pot calling kettle black.

Whatever the case, we are in a topsy turvy reality when it comes to the state, deep or otherwise, and with Trump in the news. Trump seemingly looks to be messing with a lot of peoples heads - and most everyone is on edge and confused, one minute this way and the next that; which might be a purposeful point behind the headlines? The question might also be, is there a method to what people might deem his madness? If it wasn't so damned dangerous, the consequences of it all, it's a hell of a show that I'd rather not watch, yet that's what we are living through. However, provably so, one must remember that under the Clinton/Obama cabal, which in facsimile is trying to reemerge with its head, there was a great deal of 'open' abject murder committed by the state and their proxies, all done in the name of democracy and not many said a thing. So, will have to wait and see where this goes.

As much as this "baffles" us as recently as 2015 the Cs described the general nature of the "show". We just have so much to absorb sometimes we forget what they say. Here are some questions previously answered that really give us some insight to the overall mindset of 4D STS. In a sense they are just having a little "fun" much like we would at a football or soccer game.

Session 13 June 2015
Q: [laughter] (L) Okay, well, obviously people need to start reading the earlier sessions!

A: Take note however, that there are those at 4D STS "HQ" who take some pleasure fomenting wars and confusion for sport.

Q: (L) So, forget Anunnaki. It's just 4D STS.

A: Yes

Q: (L) Now, changing topics... Well, let's stay on the world affairs business. Okay, one person on the forum wrote:

Observing the political arena closely over the past months and years and especially the maneuvering of Putin's government in regards to the Western Elites, I have the strong impression that Putin is likely a person that Łobaczewski described as a person that can feel that something is terribly wrong with the system and can make the right decisions, even though he might not know the pathological roots [that is, he has a conscience].

The more I read, hear and research about Putin, I think it is quite likely that he is not only the mayor player in most of those smart moves over the years, put probably one of the masterminds, if not the mastermind itself, behind it. I mean, what he created and was able to accomplish (within this system!) is not only brilliant, long-sighted, but also genius in more than one way. The fact alone that he is now stronger than ever, even though the Elites must have tried every dirty trick to eliminate him in the last 15 years, speaks volumes in such a big and powerful country as Russia and in the system in which we live. I watched the last documentary about Putin's history as President since before he came to power until today. Taking it all together, it seems like there is strong "fire from within" burning in Putin, which pushed/pushes him to achieve almost superhuman things with himself, within Russia, and in the world as a whole. So is it fair to say that Putin is the Caesar of our days, or even, dare I say it, a caliber smarter?

(Pierre) Well, it's quite a true depiction.

(Perceval) Maybe.

(L) So, what do you have to say about Putin?

A: He has a team of good and smart helpers. But it can be said that that is a good analysis and close conclusion.

Q: (L) Okay, now here's another question. I think people will probably be interested in this one. So, let's go with it:

Quote
The last couple of months especially, but actually since the new pope Francis came into power, it seems like he is trying to do something good in all sorts of areas. For example he said on more than one occasion how bad war is, that we should stop it, and that the system/governments are the only ones who need war. He said for example that a war with Syria is not a good idea back in 2013 and also wrote an letter to Putin in that respect back then. It almost seems like what he is saying about wars is directed to the war machine of the US-Elite and their followers, and not just a general, "No war anymore". So it is not just that he is saying such things, but he seems to follow his words with actions. Recently, he recognized Palestine as a state, which is quite a big move. He said to Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the Vatican, "May you be an angel of peace." Then he recently created, as far as I know for the first time in the history of the church, "a judicial mechanism, a Tribunal for Bishop Negligence in Child Sexual Abuse Cases". In other words, people in the church, that are accused of either covering up or being engaged in sexual abuse of children can now be charged in a tribunal court which is based on a judicial mechanism. Quite a big thing as well.

So is the pope doing all those things because he has a conscience or is there something else behind it, like some kind of plan to appease the people in the world, who more or less wake up and see the propaganda for what it is, in order to bring the Catholic church back "into play" now, or in the near future?

(L) That's a good question.

A: It is a little of both.

Q: (L) So, the guy has a conscience...

(Chu) But he also wants to appease the people...

(Perceval) Well, there's also a power behind the pope. There are a bunch of cardinals who see the problem of everybody leaving and the money flying out of the coffers. They probably picked Francy because he's a nice guy and he wants to do good. Then people will come back to the Catholic Church, and they'll get their money back, and so on.

(L) So, it's basically like psychopaths that come to an understanding that they've gotta put somebody more human out there on the front so that they can survive because their sources are drying up. Is that fairly accurate?

A: More or less. Francis really wants to do good but he also understands the forces in play.

Q: (L) Now, the next question is: Some people are wondering if all the information that we get about North Korea is just pure propaganda, and if maybe Kim Jong Un is not as bad as he is portrayed?

A: Bad enough, but certainly not the monster he is portrayed. The key is the intense secretiveness and belligerence.

Q: (L) Okay. Somebody wrote:

Quote
We should never forget, that the people we can name, like Obama, Putin, etc, are being used by the "real movers and shakers" behind the scenes: they are effects rather than causes. The real power structure, is what uses countries as pawns for its aims, nations are sacrificed when they have done what is needed of them. To me, it is looking like Amerika is the next one to fall, a result of the "Live by the Sword, Die by the Sword" principle, but that is all part of the plan, OSIT.

(L) Any comment on that?

A: See previous answers.

Q: (L) I assume that means answers about Putin, 4D STS having fun playing games with people, and so forth. Okay, let's go back to this other topic here. A forum member writes:

Music is such a powerful medium. Powerful in that it accesses the imagination, the mind and the emotions and the body - all the lower centers, for sure. Thus it is no wonder that the PTB would seek to use this medium to their advantage since manipulation, by any means, is their middle name. If they go to such great lengths to control mainstream media news, TV programming, and movies, certainly the music industry is not immune to their manipulation and control. This should be self-evident by now, I would think.

Perhaps because music can access the emotions directly (and thus bypass the rational mind), dive into the sub-conscious mind, AND influence the body, I believe it provides a fertile ground for 4th way self-observation and study. One of the things Gurdjieff said early on as relayed by Ouspenski in “In Search of the Miraculous”, was that we are subject to a series of 'likes' and 'don't likes' by all the little I's: petty, subjective, egoistic tastes (my words). Certainly music is a vast playground for subjective likes and dislikes. Furthermore, it could be argued that what and who we like or dislike may even be reflective of our state of development, awareness and being.

(L) Does a person's taste in music reflect their state of awareness, development, and being?

A: Yes, more or less, though there is a range of preferences at various "levels".

Amendment imposes new sanctions against Moscow and also establishes a process for Congress to review any attempt by Trump to relax or end sanctions.

Senate approves new Russia sanctions as punishment for meddling in election
https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2017/jun/14/senate-proposes-new-russia-sanctions-meddling-election

The Senate has approved new sanctions against Russia, as punishment after it was found to have meddled in the 2016 presidential election. The legislation also restricts the White House from easing sanctions without congressional approval.

As mentioned by angelburst29 above, on the 14th of June the US Senate voted in favour of sanctions . Despite the fact that Trump's administration is restricted by the Congress when it comes to any attempts to ease the sanctions (as mentioned in the quote above) the Trump administration are pushing for more flexibility:

https://sputniknews.com/politics/201706171054730449-white-house-lobbying-weaker-sanctions/

The White House is hoping to convince House Republicans to take some of the sting out of the bill passed by the Senate last week to enact new sanctions on Russia and Iran and to curtail the president's power to alter or end them.

Citing a senior administration official, Politico reports that though US President Donald Trump's administration supports sanctioning Russia, they are worried that the new bill will tie their hands as they are trying to rebuild relations with Moscow.

The Senate approved these new sanctions on Russia just before the big scheduled G20 meeting in Germany, starting on July 7th. Trump wants to meet with Putin but again, there is opposition trying to steer the outcome.

President Trump and members of his administration are requesting a full bilateral meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin at the G-20 summit in Germany next month.

[...] While some administration officials have pressed for a quick "pull-aside" meeting at the Group of 20 summit or lower officials talking privately instead of the heads of state, Trump wants an event that includes the media and time for work sessions, according to one government official.

Why would Trump "compromise" his own position of wanting to meet Putin, face to face, by having Press Secretary Sean Spicer announce "the U.S. had “identified potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime that would likely result in the mass murder of civilians, including innocent children” on the heels of CNN being exposed for it's fake reporting, adding creditability to Trump? Doesn't make sense?

Several State Department officials typically involved in coordinating such announcements said they were caught completely off guard by the warning, which didn’t appear to be discussed in advance with other national security agencies. Typically, the State Department, the Pentagon and U.S. intelligence agencies would all be consulted before the White House issued a declaration sure to ricochet across foreign capitals.

Five US defense officials said they did not know where the potential chemical attack would come from and were unaware the White House was planning a statement.

Is it possible, Trump through his own intelligence channels became aware of another chemical attack being planned "by Israel" in which the DOD and the Pentagon would be complicit in carrying out the attack ( “identified potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack") indirectly warning Assad and Putin ..... while Trump makes himself look like the culprit?

Moscow perceives allegations made by the White House that Syria could be preparing a chemical attack as an "invitation" for terrorists to launch a provocation using chemical weapons, Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a statement Wednesday.

'Invitation for Provocation': Moscow Slams US' Chemical Attack in Syria Claim
https://sputniknews.com/politics/201706281055039236-russia-us-syria-chemical-attack-claim/

Earlier this week, White House spokesperson Sean Spicer claimed that the United States allegedly "observed potential preparations for another chemical weapons attack by the Assad regime."

"We consider these new insinuations on the issue of weapons of mass destruction — in the worst traditions of 2003 NATO intervention in Iraq — to be nothing less than an invitation for terrorists, extremists and armed opposition in Syria to fabricate another mass provocation using chemical weapons," the statement, published on the Ministry's website, said. "After [the provocation], the 'inevitable punishment' for Bashar Assad should follow, as envisioned by Washington."

On Tuesday, the Kremlin commented on the White House's claim and said that it considers US' threats against Syrian legitimate leadership to be "unacceptable." Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov pointed out that the Syrian government cannot be held accountable for the April 4 chemical attack in the Idlib province "because, as you know, despite all of Russia's demands, an unbiased international investigation of the previous tragedy has not been carried out."

Damascus also denied the allegation. Ali Haidar, the Minister of State for National Reconciliation Affairs in Syria, said that Damascus "never used and will never use such weapons," adding that the statement issued by the White House portends a "diplomatic battle" against Syria in the UN.

The allegation voiced by the White House triggered confusion in Washington and around the world. BuzzFeed News drew attention to a peculiar detail related to the statement, pointing out that "many officials across the Pentagon did not know what the White House was referring to until Tuesday morning."

Following Spicer's statement, State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert refused to provide evidence of the Syrian government 's alleged chemical attack preparations because that "would be considered an intelligence matter."

Coinciding with Washington's claim about the Syrian authorities planning a chemical attack, an article by investigative journalist Seymour M. Hersh emerged this week, revealing that the US authorities knew there was no chemical attack carried out by the Syrian government.

Surrounding the G20 meeting and tight security measures being taken by Berlin, this article just surfaced:

Disgraced Berlin police were sent home from a security assignment at the Hamburg G20 summit after officers let their hair down at a wild party.

'Unacceptable': Wild Night of Debauchery Gets Berlin Police Fired From G20
https://sputniknews.com/europe/201706281055033847-berlin-police-party-g20/

Over 200 police officers from Berlin who had arrived in Hamburg to assist with security at the G20 summit turned to be more hindrance than help to their colleagues, after they held a party which soon got out of hand.

On Sunday, the officers arrived at their accommodations, a former asylum center comprised of prefabricated homes in Bad Segeberg, around 60 km from Hamburg. In the evening, they held a party to celebrate their arrival and two officers' birthdays.

According to reports, two officers at the party had sex in public, others urinated against a fence and one policewoman did a striptease on a table with her service weapons.

A spokesperson for the Hamburg police said the behavior of the officers was "unacceptable."

"The police chief has decided to dismiss these squads, which have not yet been deployed in Hamburg, with immediate effect. These police units are now back in Berlin. The police chief has made it clear that such behavior is unacceptable for police officers."

The Berliner Zeitung newspaper possesses photographs of the party.

Berlin police spokesman Thomas Neuendorf confirmed the report.

"Hamburg police have informed us that our colleagues are being sent back. There are allegations that they urinated in public, that sexual intercourse was conducted in public and a policewoman danced on the table in a bathrobe with her service weapon. It is clear that there was a lot of alcohol," he told Sputnik Deutschland.

Neuendorf compared their conduct to that of teenagers on a school trip and said an investigation is underway with disciplinary measures to follow.

"This is not a class trip, where 16-year-old schoolchildren sometimes get carried away. These are officials who have to uphold the reputation of the entire police force. They cannot behave like that!"

"This is misconduct and will lead to disciplinary action. So far, there are no indications that criminal acts were committed. Ultimately, it depends on what individual officials are demonstrated to have done. The measures range from a reprimand to a fine or an order that an officer can no longer take part in large squads on assignments."

The officers concerned formed part of three police squads of around 210 officers, who were sent to Hamburg to assist with the preparations for the G20 summit, which will take place in Hamburg from July 7-8.

In total, approximately 1,000 Berlin officers are supposed to be assisting their colleagues in Schleswig-Holstein with security for the conference.

Earlier this month, German police introduced temporary border controls until July 11 to help prevent disturbances at the summit. The German federal government is spending €32 million ($36 million) on extra security for the conference.

Extra police have been drafted as thousands of protestors are expected to descend on Hamburg to protest the summit. Last week, a court in Hamburg granted a request by the organizers of a 3,000-tent protest camp to allow them to occupy Hamburg's city park for the duration of the summit. The authorities are expecting as many as 30 demonstrations to take place, with some still locked in legal disputes.

Indeed. Always good to get your reminders, goyacobol. And as they also once said, or similar, on the subject of politics/voting/leaders, its a distraction.

Was also reminded of what was said in this session when asked about Trump (and this perhaps addresses the method to what seems the madness question:

Q: (Galatea) He's playing everybody, I think. My impression is that everything he's been doing has just been an act, and he's secretly, covertly doing some good things. He's just being evil to be good.

A: Close. He knows what he is up against!

So, maybe it can be considered that with the media, political opposition and bureaucrats (most), business leaders, foreign countries and policy, and public non supporters and some supporters (domestic and global) all being kept spinning around in circles, how else could one inherit that horrendous mess and try to change it (emphasis on "try") without resorting to unconventional means? As the C's commented, what he is up against cannot, as history shows, be taken-on using conventional means, osit. Nonetheless, a lot of it, whatever he is trying to achieve, and if he is truly trying to undermine the former line of force in the world, people are not going to like it if he pushes on.

Anyhow, I'm trying to check passed programs and just watch how things develop; flip flops and all on this world stage. It's also heartening to have peeps here keeping track and exposing the stories and lies, cause that is about all we can do aside from watching or becoming emotionally entangled; and its not easy either way.

In our age there is no such thing as 'keeping out of politics.' All issues are political issues, and politics itself is a mass of lies, evasions, folly, hatred and schizophrenia.

voyageur,

George Orwell sums it up nicely there.

We really know that these guys are not going to change their plans much but I guess we keep hoping for the best. I think the next game changer we should expect may be "earth changes". If the PTB aren't going to change and enough people are not waking up to see how psychopathic the PTB are then the universe is still in charge.

(Andromeda) That's pretty depressing.

A: Yes. It will pass when the big changes come.

changes?

A: Yes.
Q: (L) And we notice that the weather... I mean, you said that all of
this stuff was going to manifest as weather first, and it certainly is
manifesting as weather first. Just about everything that was said
back in many of the early sessions is happening now. It took 20
years to get there, but it's here. It's now.
(Perceval) Does that mean that terrorism and terrorists will be the

A: Naturally so. But be aware that they have been misled too!
Q: (L) So even the PTB are running their operations based on wishful
thinking; they think that they're setting things up to create their
global empire, and they don't even know that earth changes or
serious climate changes are going to happen that will knock their
global empire off its foundation. Is that it?
A: Yes

Q: (L) I mean, what else can you think when they built something
like that seed bank in Svalbard, Norway? They actually think they're
going to have access to it? Where are the firing neurons on that
one?!
(Pierre) It means they see something coming if they made that seed
bank. But obviously, they don't have the global picture; they don’t
see what is REALLY coming.
(L) They don't have the whole picture.
A: Exactly.
Q: (L) So, what can we do, if anything?
A: Help others to be ready.

Helping others to be ready is not so easy unless they actually see a need to be helped but I guess we can "Do the best you can". :(

Interesting article at LaRouchPAC.com that I felt inspired to share. (Hopefully I've posted it in the proper place.)

It announces a concert taking place tonight (6/29/17) at Carnegie Hall in New York and is a tribute to the life of Sylvia Olden Lee (1917-2004) who was Metropolitan Opera vocal coach. This tribute is also on the occasion of her 100th birthday.

I like how the LaRouchePac.com article tied this concert tribute in with all the insanity going on in our world now, especially this part:

Such a classical cultural revival is essential to bringing scientific thinking back to the United States, in order to shift the country fully into the New Paradigm of China's Belt and Road Initiative.

But there is another New York, as we are being reminded daily. Yesterday, there was a disastrous derailment on one of Manhattan's major subway lines, which led to dozens of injuries (fortunately no deaths—this time) and serious damage to the tracks and tunnel. No one has an estimate at this point of how long it will take to repair. But this is only a foretaste of the "Summer of Hell" that awaits New Yorkers beginning July 10, when an announced series of 20% cutbacks in service will begin, to permit necessary repairs to be carried out.

The fact of the matter is that the entire infrastructure grid of greater New York is imploding from decades of lack of maintenance and investment in new capabilities. The Schiller Institute is now preparing a full programmatic proposal for what has to be done, starting immediately, to address this crisis— which includes working closely with China and its world-class infrastructure capabilities.

In fact, the entire trans-Atlantic system is collapsing— both its physical economy, and its financial system—and cannot recover without writing off the bankrupt $1.5 quadrillion derivatives bubble, with Glass-Steagall and the broader policy of LaRouche's Four Laws. This is evident in the current dead-end debate in Congress on Obamacare vs. the Republican health care bill, both of which simply kill people in order to keep Wall Street's insurance Molochs contented. And it is evident in the implications of the London Greenfell Tower inferno, which can best be called the Greenfell Crematorium, where dozens if not hundreds of such dangerous housing projects for poorer immigrants and others exist, as a result of the privatization of public housing and speculation in the British housing bubble — both courtesy of the bankrupt City of London and Wall Street.

Fortunately, the alternative to this murder, and associated cultural insanity, is coming into being around China's Belt and Road Initiative. China's President Xi Jinping has just announced that he will be holding summits with Russian President Vladimir Putin (on July 3), and Germany's President Franz-Walter Steinmeier and Chancellor Angela Merkel (shortly thereafter), both prior to the July 7-8 G20 summit in Hamburg. The Xi-Putin summit, in particular, can be expected to produce important new developments, as both sides have repeatedly stated over recent months, especially in enhanced coordination between China's Belt and Road and Russia's EAEU initiatives. It is also significant that Xi and Putin will be meeting immediately prior to the expected Putin-Trump meeting in Hamburg during the G20 summit. That meeting can be a "game-changer," as they say, not only in bilateral US-Russia relations, but in the strategic situation facing the entire planet.

The British Empire, and those in Washington who are carrying the Queen's water, are perfectly aware of that fact, and are prepared to do anything, anywhere (not just in Syria), to prevent that from happening.

We, however, are similarly prepared to make sure that it does.

I'm personally getting to the point, where I have had enough of this devious behavior and degrading accusations at a President we elected! Since January 20th, not a single day has gone by, that some form of slander or character assassination has been inflicted upon Trump or one of his Family members.
Since Kennedy, we haven't had a decent President that cared about the people and this Nation. With Trump, there's a glimmer of hope?

I think, Trump needs to get serious with "Draining the Swamp" and start staffing positions with highly qualified professionals in their fields like Putin did?
Maybe Trump could ask Phillippine President Duterte for some advise on how to handle things? Either way, many on the taxpayer payroll deserve the "Comely-Pink-Slip" treatment.

But 25 House Democrats, including the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee, are now pushing an equally radical alternative: They are backing a bill that would create a congressional “oversight” commission that could declare the president incapacitated, leading to his removal from office under the 25th Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

At 12:56 p.m. Thursday, barely four hours after Trump tweeted attacks against MSNBC cable host Mika Brzezinski in crude, personal terms, Rep. Jamie Raskin, D-Md., the chief sponsor of the bill, sent out an email to his colleagues, urging them to get behind the measure, writing it was of “enduring importance to the security of our nation.”

“In case of emergency, break glass,” Raskin told Yahoo News in an interview. “If you look at the record of things that have happened since January, it is truly a bizarre litany of events and outbursts.” Asked if Trump’s latest tweets attacking Brzezinski and her co-host Joe Scarborough — which were roundly condemned by members of both parties as beneath the dignity of his office — strengthened the grounds for invoking the 25th Amendment, Raskin replied: “I assume every human being is allowed one or two errant and seemingly deranged tweets. The question is whether you have a sustained pattern of behavior that indicates something is seriously wrong.” After Trump’s Thursday morning tweets, four more Democrats signed on to Raskin’s bill, his office said Friday. (Brzezinski and Scarborough’s response to Trump’s tweets ran in today’s Washington Post under the headline, “The President is not well.” White House spokeswoman Sarah Huckabee Sanders defended Trump’s tweets Thursday, saying he “fights fire with fire.”)

[...] [...] Raskin’s bill so far has been quietly picking up support in the Democratic caucus. Among the co-sponsors who have signed are Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., the ranking member of the House Judiciary Committee (and the only member of Congress who was around when the 25th Amendment was enacted), and Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., the former chair of the Democratic National Committee.

But despite some talk of the 25th Amendment option in conservative circles — New York Times columnist Ross Douthat recently urged that it be considered and National Review contributing editor Andrew McCarthy tweeted about it Thursday — so far no Republican members of Congress have signed on to the idea. “It’s really a political decision,” said Rep. Steve Cohen, D-Tenn., who has also co-sponsored Raskin’s bill. While many of his GOP colleagues are, in the privacy of the House cloakroom, “shaking their heads” and “embarrassed” by the president, “they can’t say anything publicly” given the core support Trump has so far retained among their base, he said.

A group of Democrats in the House of Representatives have moved to bring the 25th Amendment to the US Constitution into play, allowing for the removal of US President Donald Trump from office for mental incapacity.

US Democrats Want to Remove Trump From White House for Mental Incapacity
https://sputniknews.com/politics/201707021055152424-democrats-seek-to-remove-trump/

Raskin's newly introduced bill calls for the creation of a nonpartisan "Oversight Commission on Presidential Capacity," which would consist of members appointed by congressional leaders, according to Yahoo News.

The oversight committee, tasked with determining Trump's mental fitness, would be comprised of four psychiatrists, four physicians, and three other members, potentially to include a former president, vice president, or former top government official, according to the Free Beacon.

Raskin claimed to have support from both sides of the political aisle on Capitol Hill, asserting that some unnamed Republicans have expressed tacit agreement with the move.

Based on the wording of the 25th Amendment, a sitting US president cannot legally be declared mentally unfit to serve without the agreement of the vice-president.

A key House committee on Thursday approved an amendment that could dramatically curb the president’s ability to authorize military force without congressional approval.

Key House committee approves curbing Trump’s war authorization powers
http://www.cbsnews.com/news/house-panel-approves-amendment-that-would-strip-trumps-war-authorization-powers/

The House Appropriations Committee voted to repeal the AUMF, or authorization of military force, which was set in motion after the Sept. 11th terrorist attacks. To become law, it would need to pass the full House, Senate and be signed by President Trump.

The Bush-era AUMF granted the president broad powers to retaliate against anyone who contributed to the Sept. 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, and that authorization has provided the foundation for U.S. military intervention abroad ever since. It hasn’t changed in more than 15 years.

The House panel on Thursday approved an amendment from Rep. Barbara Lee (D-Calif.) to sunset the AUMF as a part of the Department of Defense’s budget for next year. If that amendment stays in the bill, and is approved by the House, Senate and signed by the president, it will drastically scale back Mr. Trump’s ability — and future presidents’ ability — to carry out military intervention without Congress’ explicit OK. The committee’s voice vote approving the amendment was nearly unanimous.

Mr. Trump’s administration has used those broad powers to do things like strike a Syrian airbase in response to a deadly chemical weapons attack believed to be perpetrated by Syria’s president, Bashar al-Assad.

Lee’s amendment — something she has introduced every year — would sunset the AUMF 240 days after the appropriations bill is signed into law, should the amendment stay in the bill. Congress would need new authorization to replace the AUMF, something it hasn’t been able to pull off in the past.

The amendment is likely to face more of an uphill battle in future legislative battles, and backlash from the Trump administration, which is unlikely to welcome a move to curb the president’s war powers.

House Speaker Paul Ryan has not yet said whether House leadership wants to keep the amendment in the bill when it comes up for a vote on the House floor.

FORMER President Barack Obama has hit out at Donald Trump, criticising the “lack of American leadership” on the world stage following the Republican's withdrawal from the Paris climate agreement.

Obama hits out at President Trump and blasts ‘absence of American leadership’ in the world
http://www.express.co.uk/news/world/823697/President-Barack-Obama-Donald-Trump-Paris-Climate-Agreement-Jakarta-Indonesia

In a speech to a cheering crowd in Jakarta, Indonesia, the former leader of the free world touched on many subjects which could have applied to both the US and his audience’s home nation.

But in a direct challenge the President Trump’s decisions, Obama turned his ire to the Republican firebrand’s approach to the Paris climate agreement.

He said: “In Paris, we came together around the most ambitious agreement in history about climate change, an agreement that even with the temporary absence of American leadership, can still give our children a fighting chance.”

Last month President Trump committed to pulling out of the international agreement on reducing emissions to limit global warming, saying he “was elected to represent the citizens of Pittsburgh, not Paris”.

But Obama, who helped orchestrate the deal, told the audience in Jakarta the US was “technically not out yet”. He added: “First of all, I think it’s important that even though the current US administration has signaled it is going to pull out, technically it’s not out yet.

Barack Obama jetted off to Indonesia on Friday with his family for another luxury vacation. However, Rep. Trey Gowdy doesn’t think it’s a coincidence that Obama has chosen to head to a country that has no extradition agreement with the U.S. right as the investigation into former Attorney General Loretta Lynch is heating up.

Trey Gowdy UNLOADS On Obama After He Jets Off On Luxury Vacation
https://www.patriotbeacon.com/2017/07/trey-gowdy-unloads-obama-jets-off-luxury-vacation/

Mad World News reported that Obama chose to head to Indonesia right after the Senate Intelligence Committee opened an investigation into Lynch’s handling of the Hillary Clinton probe. Gowdy would now like to know when Obama plans to come back to the U.S., because he has some questions to ask him.

“Let me hazard a wild guess: that there may be something else on that server that they didn’t want law enforcement to see?” Gowdy said. “That is where you start. I don’t like speculating, but I have dealt in the past with victims who would not cooperate with investigations. Typically, the reason is, there is something else you do not want law enforcement to see.”

This comes right as Obama’s former National Security Advisor Susan Rice is preparing to testify before the House Intelligence Committee.

“It’s a little suspicious that Obama is jetting off right as his own adviser is testifying before an intelligence committee,” Conservative Tribune reported. “The allegations that the Obama administration, including Rice, was behind the unmasking of individuals during the 2016 election is potentially one of the biggest scandals of Obama’s time in office.”

Obama's legacy? Money budgeted and allocated to each State for economic, health and social services from the Federal Gov. were downsized and capped to help establish "Sanctuary Cities" in each State? Now the States are going bankrupt? One by one!

New Jersey state government shut down at midnight Friday night, after lawmakers failed to pass a nearly $35 billion budget and avert a state government shutdown.

New Jersey Government Shuts Down After Legislators Fail To Meet Budget Deadline
http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2017/06/30/new-jersey-budget/

Gov. Chris Christie called for a special session of the New Jersey State Legislature on Saturday at 11 a.m., and blamed Democratic State Assembly Speaker Vincent Prieto for failing to reach a deal.

“He has not asked, either formally or informally, for the opportunity to address that session. The Governor has no idea why the Speaker is denying him the right to give a speech that he hasn’t even asked to give,” the statement said. “The Governor has called the session not to give speeches but to try to work to convince the Speaker to reopen the government that the Speaker has closed tonight. The Governor will be here early tomorrow to continue to work for the people of New Jersey.”

Christie also declared a state of emergency and maintained that essential state government services would remain in place. State police, correctional facilities, key child welfare facilities, state hospitals and treatment facilities, NJ TRANSIT, and operations linked to health, safety and welfare will be maintained. The shutdown also will not affect the state Lottery, casinos and racetracks.

But Island Beach State Park announced late Friday night that it would be closed Saturday due to the New Jersey government shutting down.

Liberty State Park — which had been gearing up for a big Fourth of July celebration — will also be closed. So will all other state parks, recreation areas, forest, and historic sites.

Permitting offices for Air, Historic Preservation, Land Use, Site Remediation, Solid Waste, and Water Supply; Green Acres and Blue Acres offices; Office of Dispute Resolution; Office of Permit Coordination; most of the Division of Fish & Wildlife; NJ Geologic Survey; and Rebuild by Design projects will also be closed

New Jersey motor vehicle agencies and inspection stations will also be closed. The public will not be able to get copies of birth and marriage certificates, and no new certifications or renewals will be issued for EMTs, paramedics or Certified Nursing Assistants.

Travel and tourism welcome centers will be closed, as will some treasury operations.

First Maine, then Connecticut, and finally late on Friday, confirming the worst case outcome many had expected, Illinois entered its third straight fiscal year without a budget as Republican Governor Bruce Rauner and Democratic lawmakers failed to agree on how to compromise over the government’s chronic deficits, pushing it closer toward becoming the first junk-rated U.S. state.

"From Horrific To Catastrophic": Court Ruling Sends Illinois Into Financial Abyss
http://www.zerohedge.com/news/2017-07-01/horrific-catastrophic-court-ruling-send-illinois-financial-abyss

By the end of Friday - the last day of the fiscal year - Illinois legislators failed to enact a budget, and while negotiations continued amid some glimmers of hope and lawmakers planned to meet over the weekend, the failure marked a continuation of the historic impasse that’s left Illinois without a full-year budget since mid-2015, and which, recall, S&P warned one month ago will likely result in a humiliating and unprecedented downgrade of the 5th most populous US state to junk status.

Then came the begging.

According to Bloomberg, on Friday Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, a Democrat who controls much of the legislative agenda, pleaded with rating companies to "temporarily withhold judgment” as lawmakers negotiate. “Much work remains to be done,” the Democrat said on the floor of the House Friday, before the chamber adjourned for the day. “We’ll get the job done.”

Meanwhile, the state remains without a spending plan, its tax receipts and outlays mostly on "autopilot", leaving it with a record $15 billion of unpaid bills as it spent over $6 billion more than it brought in over the past year, and with $800 million in interest on the unpaid bills alone. The impasse has devastated social-service providers, shuttering services for the homeless, disabled and poor. The lack of state aid has wrecked havoc on universities, putting their accreditation at risk.

At the center of national debate, a question remains unanswered: Are sanctuary cities that protect illegal immigrants safer than non-sanctuary cities?

Crime drops in Phoenix after city drops sanctuary city status, former cops say
http://www.foxnews.com/politics/2017/06/30/crime-drops-in-phoenix-after-city-drops-sanctuary-city-status-former-cops-say.html

And at least one city, Phoenix, saw a drop in crime after it eliminated its sanctuary city status, according to former law enforcement officials.

Yet, some 200 cities nationwide adopted sanctuary policies and lawmakers propose to make California a sanctuary state. While the statute is opposed by the statewide county sheriff's association, Los Angeles Police Chief Charlie Beck supports the bill that would prohibit local police from cooperating with ICE requests for information on illegal immigrants in custody.

Beck and De Leon were joined by former U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder. They oppose two bills passed Thursday by the House. One measure – named Kate's law after a young woman who was killed by an illegal immigrant who had been deported five times – stiffens punishment for people who re-enter the US illegally. The other strips some federal dollars from "sanctuary" cities that refuse to cooperate with ICE.

In the eyes of Levi Bolton, executive director to the Arizona Police Association, that would be a mistake. In May 2008, Phoenix reversed itself, becoming a non-sanctuary state. Under the policy, police had full discretion to ask suspects about their immigration status and had the freedom to call ICE.

"We saw a decrease in crime," said Bolton. "It had a deterrent effect on folks because the risk of discovery went up exponentially when we actually enforced the law." Bolton served with Mark Spencer, who spent 25 years patrolling in Phoenix.

Its a difficult situation all the way around. Not living in the U.S., it is astounding how Trump dominates the conversation around me; basically saying Trump said this and did that today. If you caught the older video interview with the ex U.S. Army Colonel L. Wilkerson, he well points out where the true focus should be, yet sadly it's not, on purpose - nothing new for many reading SoTT.

Fwiw, what you ask for may be so in Russia, and of course it's possible in the U.S. under 'ideal' conditions, if that could ever be assured. And yet it is likely a tenfold problem for Trump just like it was for the Perkins fellow in the film 'A Very British Coup' whereby the whole apparatus of government can, if directed, work against you from the inside (Perkins had MI5, the media and even the CIA against him and Trump seems to have the same and more). Concerning staffing, how does one staff and be absolutely sure your not being played? Perkins, the character, had this problem and Trump does to. Also, how indeed does one possibly counteract the full magnitude of the MSN domestic and foreign press (despite Trump Tweets), and counteract every headline dished out, or the multitudes of opinion columns and commentary pieces that works against Trump - it's like an avalanche day after day? How do you control the apparatus of state, have influence within all the bureaucracy, or influence the narratives of people sitting around the kitchen table or drinking coffee with friends? How do you sway the college campuses and schools systems and the individuals and parents who are told to hate you - without the press, the insiders,I just don't know. It's like pushing a rope up a hill.

That film mentioned above was just reviewed in full, and although the Perkins character and Trump, the President, are very different, with perhaps some similarities of purpose, it left me thinking that in this day and age, in these times of how the whole political system is shaped, operated and controlled - and for what end, what they did to Perkins, the Prime Minister character, is what they are doing to Trump, and Trump is better positioned in some respects with his money and connections, yet what he faces is mesmerizing.

Nonetheless, it becomes sort of plain, osit, that if you are elected and enter a position of such power, such as prior presidents or Trump, you either cave in and do exactly as you are told, like Obama clearly did (or he was already predisposed to it, I think), or you don't. If you don't, you better have a good plan or you will be in a very difficult situation, such as it is.

angelburst29, I don't know what could possibly be up his sleeve, if anything, or if he is even completely sincere despite appearances and the games being played. If there was suddenly some magical disclosure of all the bad deeds done by others, like McCain et al - provable in a court of law and public opinion, that might help, yet not likely.

Anyway, if you have not seen it (someone had posted it on the Forum or on SoTT and I could not source it again) you might want to check out the British film as it has some interesting parallels and realities.

U.S. President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin are scheduled to have a “full-fledged sit-down” bilateral meeting Friday on the sidelines of the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany, Russian and White House officials confirmed.

Trump, Putin talk to be ‘fully fledged’ bilateral meeting in Germany
http://www.breitbart.com/news/trump-putin-talk-to-be-fully-fledged-bilateral-meeting-in-germany/

The two leaders were expected to meet while in Germany, but representatives confirmed Tuesday that instead of a brief side meeting, the two will have a full bilateral talk, Russia’s state-run news agency Tass reported.

“It is planned as a fully-fledged, ‘seated’ meeting,” Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Tuesday.

It will be the first official bilateral meeting between Trump and Putin, who have previously spoken on the phone.

“So far, there is no clarity as to how long it [the meeting] might take. I think is will be a rather detailed, in-depth discussion. We hope it will be that way,” Putin’s aide, Yuri Ushakov.

A White House official confirmed the date of the meeting to CBS News.

Among the topics expected to be discussed is the return of property U.S. officials effectively seized when it closed the Russian Embassy in Washington and other diplomatic offices in the United States at the end of December.

The Kremlin said Putin is expected to call for a “most rapid resolution” to the property dispute. A Putin spokesman also said Monday the Kremlin is losing patience in the matter.

The meeting is expected to be key in light of the ongoing diplomatic difficulties between Moscow and Washington over the Kremlin’s reputed interference in the U.S. presidential election last fall.

“It is necessary to break the current impasse in bilateral relations. This is equally important for us and for the Americans,” Ushakov said.

Top aides to President Trump are worried what Trump will say during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin when the two leaders meet at the upcoming G-20 summit.

Top aides worry about what Trump will say in Putin meeting: report
http://thehill.com/homenews/administration/340660-top-aides-worry-about-what-trump-will-say-in-putin-meeting-report

The New York Times reported Wednesday that top aides to Trump are worried the president is "unwittingly" allying himself with Putin and that the two leaders will bond over their distrust of the media. Experts say that would be disastrous for Trump's administration.

“You don’t want to come out of there saying, ‘We’re friends, and the enemy is the deep state and the media,’” former Ambassador to Russia Michael McFaul told the Times.

“If it were somebody else other than Trump, you could imagine a tough conversation about Ukraine and election meddling, but that’s probably too optimistic," he continued.

"Politics does constrain, I think, the parameters of the possible for any kind of major breakthrough.”

One former ambassador to Ukraine told the Times that a "cloud" of Russian collusion accusations hangs over the White House ahead of the meeting.

“There’s a fair amount of nervousness in the White House and at the State Department about this meeting and how they manage it because they see a lot of potential risks,” Steven Pifer said.

“There is this gray cloud for the president of the investigations about collusion, so any kind of a deal is going to get the micro-scrutiny of, ‘Is this a giveaway to the Russians?’”

But the Times reports that one person in the White House isn't worried at all: Trump himself. According to the report, Trump has told aides he isn't worried about the meeting and is more concerned about the optics of being scolded by German Chancellor Angela Merkel over his decision to exit the Paris climate agreement.

Regardless of what Trump says, the optics of the meeting are likely to speak volumes, according to a former Defense Department official.

“I expect an Olympian level of macho posturing between these two leaders, who both understand the power of symbolism,” Derek Chollet told the Times.

“Putin will be very prepared for this meeting. He’s someone who is a master at manipulation.”

Trump is scheduled to meet with Putin in Hamburg, Germany, at the annual G-20 summit on Friday. In a statement Wednesday, the Kremlin said it hoped to establish a "working dialogue" between the two leaders.

This is the first meeting, the first time the two presidents will get acquainted — this is the main thing about it," Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said Wednesday.

"The expectation is that a working dialogue will be established, which is vitally important for the entire world when it comes to increasing the efficiency of resolving a critical mass of conflicts."

The meeting will be the first official meeting between Trump and Putin and comes amid swirling accusations of Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Taking a page out of the Trump media playbook, Poland's President Andrzej Duda slammed as "fake news" reports that his wife snubbed President Trump for a handshake during Trump's visit to Poland on Thursday. In a tweet on Thursday evening, Duda confirmed that both he and his wife shook hands with the president, and urged his followers to "fight fake news" together.

"Contrary to some surprising reports my wife did shake hands with Mrs. and Mr. Trump @POTUS after a great visit. Let's FIGHT FAKE NEWS."

The US media had a field day after a video of the event showed President Trump initially shakes hands with Polish President Andrzej Duda. Then the US president appeared to put his hand out to shake first lady Agata Kornhauser-Duda's hand, but she walks past him to shake the hand of Melania Trump.

Afterward, the Polish first lady proceeded to shake President Trump's hand. The interaction occurred hours before Trump flew to the G20 summit in Hamburg, Germany this week. Video of the event that didn't show Trump's eventual handshake with the first lady went viral on Twitter, and was posted by several journalists.

This is a Russian video with English subtitles and about 11 minutes long. Wish it was longer, for it was very well organized and showed examples of the different media heads and Russian propaganda. It also explained the problems Trump has had with the media and wanting to bring Russian and U.S relations closer together.

Did Putin fear NATO would SHOOT HIS JET as he flew to G20? Records show his plane took 300 mile detour to avoid flying in NATO air space
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-4676170/Putin-plane-makes-detour-avoiding-Poland-Baltics-way-G20-flight-tracker.html

A plane carrying Russian President Vladimir Putin made a 300 mile detour to avoid flying over Poland and the Baltic States on his way to the G20 summit, it has emerged.

It has raised questions about whether Putin feared being shot down amid heightened tensions with NATO.

According to the FlightRadar24 website, the Russian government jet flying from Moscow to Hamburg on Thursday deviated from the direct route over Belarus and Poland.

Poland and the Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia have been particularly vocal in their criticism of Moscow since Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014.

The Ilyushin with the registration number RA-96022 flew over the Baltic Sea, crossing on its way territory of neutral Finland and Sweden before entering the airspace of Denmark and Germany, both NATO members.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov declined to comment on the reasons for the detour, saying only that the president's security during trips was paramount.

'The (safety) measures which are taken are expedient measures,' he told a conference call with reporters.

Russian television later showed Putin emerging from a plane with same registration in Hamburg as he arrived for the summit, where he had his first meeting with US President Donald Trump on Friday.

Putin has flown over eastern NATO states on a number of recent occasions. It was not clear why this time his jet took a longer route, which also avoided crossing the Baltic states - former Soviet republics which, like Poland, are members of NATO and the European Union.

A NATO F-16 fighter jet buzzed a plane carrying Russian Defence Minister Sergei Shoigu as it flew over the Baltic Sea on June 21, but was seen off by a Russian Sukhoi-27 military jet, Moscow said in an account partly disputed by NATO.

The region is a flashpoint for tensions between Russia and the Western allies, hosting U.S. and NATO troops, to Moscow's displeasure.

US-led war games were held there this year, rehearsing a scenario in which Russia might try to sever the states from the rest of the Western alliance.

In a speech in Warsaw on Thursday, Trump committed to NATO's guarantee that alliance members will defend each other.

Planes carrying Putin over the past 12 months always took direct routes when flying over EU countries, according to data on FlightRadar24. They did not fly over Ukraine, which has closed off its airspace to flights by Russian airlines.

Putin repeatedly flew over Poland during the period, including for his previous European visit in May, and passed over the Lithuanian capital of Vilnius last October.

Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told TASS on Friday he was unaware of an incident at a hotel in the German city of Hamburg where Russian President Vladimir Putin is staying during the G20 summit.

"We’ve heard about this for the first time," Peskov said when asked to comment on media reports that the hotel’s security guards were attacked.

The German newspaper Bild reported on its website that unknown men assaulted security guards at the hotel where Putin and his delegation are staying. According to the report, the attack was carried out against security at the Park Hyatt hotel.

During the alleged attack, Putin was staying in another area of the city in the Congress Center where the G20 summit is held.

There's an article that first appeared yesterday, featuring Pope Francis's opinion on G20, that has been streamlined, with parts omitted or heavily redacted in the last 24 hours, by various news agencies. While using "migrants and immigration" as a staging platform for his concerns, Pope Francis "claims" a very dangerous alliance is being formed between Trump and Putin? I thought, the Pope's first priority was towards fostering "Peace" between Nations? Yet, the Pope seems to be promoting - division - to keep the conflicts festering between World Powers? During the Presidential election, I often got the impression that Pope Francis was in "Hillary's Camp" and the promotion of a One World Government where the 1% ruled? Is he showing his true colors .... now? Pope Francis seems to hold a very negative view of both Russia and China and I take it - he's not too thrilled with Trump, as President, either?

Pope Francis: Trump’s G20 Alliance with Putin Is Very Dangerous For the Migrants

POPE Francis has hit out against the potential of a “very dangerous alliance” at the G20 summit among world powers including the United States and Russia.

The Pope fears US President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin’s “a distorted vision of the world”, claiming any formed alliance could harm the poor and migrants.

He lumped the pair in with other “dangerous alliances” of China and North Korea, and Vladimir Putin and Bashar al-Assad in the war in Syria.

He told the Italian daily la Republica’s founder Eugenio Scalfari: “ “The G20 worries me, it hits migrants in countries in half of the world and it hits them even more as time goes by.

The Pope stressed the greatest danger concerns immigration, with “the poor, the weak, the excluded and the marginalised” juxtaposed with “those who… fear the invasion of migrants”.

Yesterday, Mr Trump described his first meeting with Mr Putin at the G20 summit as “tremendous”.

The summit, a meeting with the leaders of the world’s top 20 economies, is hosted by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and held in Hamburg.

Mr. Trump told reporters: “President Putin and I have been discussing various things and I think it’s going very well.

“We’ve had some very, very good talks. We’re going to have a talk now and obviously that will continue.

“But we look forward to a lot of very positive things happening for Russia for the United States and everybody concerned.”

The meeting focussed heavily on a newly announced ceasefire deal for south west Syria, agreed by the US, Russia and Jordan.

On Friday, the Pope urged G20 leaders to work towards a “more inclusive and sustainable economic growth”.

He also highlighted the plight of some 30 million people trapped in conflict and famine, especially in Africa and Yemen.

Talks at the summit are set to be focussed on climate change, North Korea, trade and the European migrant crisis.

Mrs. Merkel is expected to lead discussions on how Europe will cope with the huge influx of migrants since 2015, and will host talks over trade and climate change.

Pope Francis, the first non-European pope in 1,300 years, has said Europe should adopt a federal structure as soon as possible “or it won’t count for anything in the world”.

In a message to the Chancellor on Friday, the Pope urged Mrs Merkel to think about the poor and refugees when she goes forward with policy-making.

He wrote: “In the minds and hearts of government leaders, and at every phase of the enactment of political measures, there is a need to give absolute priority to the poor, refugees, the suffering, evacuees and the excluded.”

The 79-year-old from Argentina urged Europe not to see migrants as criminals in May.

The G20 Summit is annual meeting of heads of state and finance from the leaders of the world's economy. While only 20 countries are members, they represent 85 percent of the world's GDP and two-thirds of it's population.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel is hosting this year’s G20 Summit in Hamburg, Germany from July 7-8. The summit has been met this year with small but significant groups of mostly anti-capitalist protesters, who among other things are protesting the meeting of U.S. President Donald Trump with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

Much has been said about the first-ever personal meeting between Presidents Putin and Trump at the G20 summit in Hamburg. Even though there were no pompous declarations after the encounter, political analysts explain why the results of the talks are a real breakthrough with regards to the Syrian conflict.

Why Putin-Trump Meeting at G20 is a Breakthrough in the Syrian Conflict

Sergei Balmasov, an expert at the Middle East Institute at the Russian International Affairs Council explained that although the idea of the setup of the de-escalation zones in Syria belongs to Russia, Turkey and Iran, the US has, in fact, become one of the participants in the project.

However the agreements between Russia and the US have a number of considerably influential opponents.

Those include the Persian Gulf monarchies, first of, who are the main sponsors of the radical opposition in Syria, the political analyst told the news channel RT . These agreements bring no benefits to them as they realistically guarantee the retention of power, and not mere survival, of President Assad. This puts an end to any attempts to oust him from power in the coming years.

Stanislav Tarasov, a political analyst and specialist in Middle East studies, however, thinks that the main opponent to the agreements between Russia and the US is Iran, which fears the federalization of Syria, Iraq and potential federalization of Turkey because of the Kurdish factor. Moreover, the US analysts had always planned to force their way into Iran on Kurdish shoulders, he said.

The setup of the de-escalation zone in the southwest of Syria is connected with the position of Israel, the analysts said. Israel, they said, does not want Hezbollah and Iranian troops on its borders, and the safe zone is adjacent to the Golan Heights.

Stanislav Tarasov suggested that a similar zone might be set up in the north of Syria, which will be initiated by Russia and Turkey. It will be something of a conundrum, when a NATO member state does not mind the presence of Russian contingent or Russian military police on its borders.

From these points of view, the agreements on Syria between Presidents Putin and Trump are a real breakthrough and could be regarded as the main achievement of their first personal encounter, the expert concluded.

The first meeting between Vladimir Putin and Donald Trump at the G20 summit in Hamburg evoked a wave of criticism from Western media, as a number of notable news outlets blasted the US President for his conduct during negotiations.

Political Knockout: Western Media Blasts Trump After Meeting With Putin
https://sputniknews.com/world/201707091055378304-trump-putin-meeting-criticism/

At least several prominent newspapers took a dim view of President Trump’s handling of this meeting, claiming that the Russian leader apparently managed to outplay and outsmart his US counterpart.

For example, Die Welt stated that it was clear to all professional observers that the meeting resulted in Trump’s capitulation.

In an apparent effort to underscore Trump’s relative inexperience in foreign affairs, the newspaper claims that the "political pro" Putin knocked out the newbie US President "by the book."

The article’s author also emphasized the fact that Putin paused for a moment before shaking Trump’s already extended hand.

The Guardian adds that while US politicians apparently felt relieved that Trump managed to avoid "a major gaffe" during the meeting, it was "hardly cause for celebration."

"It’s an indication of how rapidly our standards are falling when we’re reasonably pleased that President Trump has not made an obvious error," Thomas Countryman, former US acting undersecretary for arms control and international security, remarked.

Meanwhile the New York Times insists that the meeting with Putin was probably the best part of the summit for Trump, who apparently found himself increasingly ostracized by other delegates.

"The talks with Mr. Putin oddly turned into a bright spot for Mr. Trump on the first full day of the gathering, where the United States found itself increasingly ostracized by other Group of 20 members on major issues, including climate change, immigration and trade," the newspaper says.

The Los Angeles Times criticized the way Trump discussed the issue of Russia’s alleged meddling in the 2016 US presidential election, arguing that the US President should’ve been more assertive in his inquiries on the subject.

The news website Vox even took this issue up a notch by outright saying that "Putin got Trump to buy his fake news on election interference and to offer a weak endorsement of upcoming sanctions."

Interestingly enough, the article’s author insisted that "the entire US intelligence community believes the Kremlin mounted a sophisticated campaign" to help Trump win the election, even though this assessment was made only by four out of 17 US intelligence agencies.

Stating that the US leader did not even properly prepare for the meeting, unlike his Russian counterpart, Vox claimed that "Trump — the dealmaker — got outplayed by Putin."
