What are you listening to?

I think this song is beautiful, and it does make me shed a few tears. Weird lyrics so you've really got to hear it sung.

Snow Patrol - Finish Line _http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K7jdL5W4BWk

The earth is warm next to my ear
Insect noise is all that I hear
A magic trick makes the world disappear
The skies are dark, they're dark but they're clear

A distant motorcade and suddenly there's joy
The snow and ticker tape blurs all my senses numb
It's like the finish line where everything just ends
The crack of radios seems close enough to touch

Cold water, cleaning my wounds
A sad parade, with a single balloon
I'm done with this, I'm counting to ten
Bluest seas, running to them

I feel like I am watching everything from space
And in a minute I'll hear my name and I'll wake
I think the finish line's a good place we could start
Take a deep breath, take in all that you could want

As I was looking for the lyrics of a another song, I came across the band Blind Guardian which I've never heard of before and thought their lyrics were interesting. I thought I would share.

Otherland - Blind Guardian

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s39YdfwZ6E4

They rule the land
They´re in command
They hold the strings in hand

They are invisible
(out of sight
they´ve designed
a secret place
to play their games)

A world, they´re in control
Divine law (x2)

Be aware now,
Mind your steps,
We are uninvited guests,
They may find and catch us

Don´t forget
Do what I say,
and now connect,
Don´t even ask until we´re out of it
Everything´s at higher stake

Come,take a look,
We are in,
Take a breath but don´t forget,
Ain´t it real, ain´t it true,
An illusion nothing more

You´re a pawn in the game, a slave to the blind oblivion
You´re a pawn in the game, now cursed your name
You´re stronger than a king, you slave to the blind oblivion
You´re a pawn in the game, now cursed your name

But now you understand...

We get closer
There´s no better way
Our fate is on its way

Deep district is the place
You need to know
It´s overwhelming,
so let´s rest here for a while

Someone else is here,
Silently
Watch me, where I follow
Everything seems real
Perfect simulation

Come, take a look,
breathe it in,
Artificial wonderlands,
We are wandering around,
Things shall vanish,
They won´t last

I know you understand these words are true,
Nothing´s real, nothing more,
It´s bits of pieces we walk through

You´re a pawn in the game, a slave to the blind oblivion
You´re a pawn in the game, now cursed your name
You´re stronger than a king, you slave to the blind oblivion
You´re a pawn in the game, now cursed your name

Welcome to the Otherland....

-SOLO-

Wait, I can feel things aren´t alright,
Do not breathe, don´t look behind,
There´s someone else,
The observer

A trick of light,
A fade of line,
The entrance gone,
We can´t get out of it,
We are slightly losing ground

Quick, it is time,
We shall know,
We better leave and don´t come back,
Nowhere to run,
Nowhere to hide,
I feel like walking aimlessly

You´re a pawn in the game, a slave to the blind oblivion
You´re a pawn in the game, now cursed your name
You´re stronger than a king, you slave to the blind oblivion
You´re a pawn in the game, now cursed your name

You´ve crossed the line, you´ve reached the end (x2)

Travelers in Time - Blind Guardian

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IO-kBFLYWh8&feature=player_embedded

The Morning Sun of Dune
The Morning Sun of Dune
The holy war's
waiting for
The morning sun (3x)
The morning sun of Dune
there's no tomorrow
the apparation of this land and it's dream
makes me feel I've seen it before
I can taste there's life
everywhere you can find
in the desert of my life
I see it again and again
And again, again, again, again
dark tales has brought the Dijahd
like whispering echos in the wind
and I'm a million miles from home
Ref.:
Traveler in Time
knowing that there's no rhyme
The morning sun is near
first light of dawn is here
the morning sun is near again
The Fremen sing that
their kingdom will come
and I'm the leading one
battlefields on our crusade
filled with Sardokaurs
killing machines crying
in raising fear they're hiding
Where do we go now?
So where is the way?
When I'm a million miles from home
Ref.
(Solo)

The morning sun I feel
all pain and sorrow
the apparation of my words in these days
makes me feel I've told them before
all my plans will come true
I'll controll destiny
in the desert of my life
I've seen it again and again
By my dreams I must find a way
to stop the raging war
I've to choose now
I will leave
my body and seek
and time will stand still
when I've to leave
my body and find
a way back to the world I love
when I'm a million miles from home

Turn the Page - Blind Guardian

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Wb9fo6dsZoo

Come tell
We're here to praise your name

Blazing sun and the bitter death
Now the guardian cross the gate

Wake up!
There is a new dawning
Wake up!
The witches wait
For you remember the mirror
When she looked in
You were born

(Were) A boy in a middle of night
There's nobody else
There's nothing at all

Suns and dawn
There's a cry in the air
[The heart one dies
When you were ever there]

Turn the wheel again!

A new beginning
Another end
Cried out
The land needs blood
Inside the ring you're waiting
Give up yourself and your life

It's time up for you
Come turn the wheel
There's nothing to feel
Come turn the wheel
Come turn the page
Oh, come turn the page

[Solo 1]

We do not believe in lies
Do not believe in lies

Then someone came
Someone came
Your alone and strong
The end of world
Now everything should move
When the new day begins

God of wind and god of rain
Turn the wheel
You better beware
From now this day will sing for you
The life will bless the child

[Realize] him
Supervise him
We will be with you until the end
Come move our hearts
We know there is life beyond the death

Cried out
We cry for blood
Come right up here and join us
Come guide us now
Time is out

It's time up for you
Come turn the wheel
There's nothing to feel
Come turn the wheel
Come turn the page
Oh, come turn the page

[Solo 2]

A new beginning
Another end
The myth of life
Your heart in your hand
We cried out
The land needs blood
The change of season
Praise to the newborn king!

Na, na, na, nanananana!
Na, na, na, nanananana!
Na, na, na, nanananana!

It's time up for you
Come turn the wheel
There's nothing to feel
Come turn the wheel
Come turn the page
Oh, come turn the page

And the song that I was originally searching for:

Battlefield - Jordin Sparks

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qgAADlAUI8E

Don't try to explain your mind
I know what's happening here
One minute it's love and suddenly
It's like a battle-field
One word turns into a
Why is it the smallest things that tear us down
My world's nothing when you don't
I'm not here without a shield
Can't go back now

Both hands tied behind my back with nothing
Oh no
These times when we climb so fast to fall again
Why we gotta fall for it now

I never meant to start a war
You know I never wanna hurt you
Don't even know what we're fighting for

Why does love always feel like ...
a battlefield (battlefield)
a battlefield (battlefield)
a battlefield (battlefield)
(repeat)
Why does love always feel like

Can't swallow our pride,
Neither of us wanna raise that flag
If we can't surrender
then we both gonna lose what we had, oh no
Both hands tied behind my back with nothing
(nothing)
Oh no, these times when we climb so fast to fall again

I don't wanna fall for it now
I never meant to start a war
You know I never wanna hurt you
Don't even know what we're fighting for

Why does love always feel like ...
a battlefield (battlefield)
battlefield (battlefield)
battlefield (battlefield)
(repeat)
Why does love always feel like

You better go and get your armor
(get your armor)
Get your armor (get your armor)
I guess you better go and get your armor
(get your armor)
Get your armor (get your armor)
I guess you better go and get your

We could pretend that we are friends tonight
And in the morning we'll wake up and we'll be alright
Cause baby we don't have to fight
And I don't want this love to feel like

A battlefield (oh) a battlefield (oh) a battlefield,
Why does love always feel like a battlefield (oh)
a battlefield (oh) a battlefield

I guess you better go and get your armor
I never meant to start a war (start a war)
You know I never wanna hurt you
Don't even know what we're fighting for
(fighting, fighting for)

Why does love always feel like ...
a battlefield (battlefield)
a battlefield (battlefield)
a battlefield (battlefield)
(repeat)
Why does love always feel like

You better go and get your armor
(get your armor)
Get your armor (get your armor)
I guess you better go and get your armor
(get your armor)
Get your armor (get your armor)
I guess you better go and get your

Why does love always feel like
(whooaa ooow)
Why does love always feel like
(whooaa ooow)
A battlefield, a battlefield..

I never meant to start a war
Don't even know What we're fighting for
I never meant to start a war
Don't even know What we're fighting for
(fade out)

Rush

'Witch Hunt'

The night is black, without a moon.
The air is thick and still.
The vigilantes gather on
The lonely torchlit hill.

Features distorted in the flickering light,
Faces are twisted and grotesque.
Silent and stern in the sweltering night,
The mob moves like demons possesed.
Quiet in conscience, calm in their right,
Confident their ways are best.

The righteous rise
With burning eyes
Of hatred and ill-will.
Madmen fed on fear and lies
To beat and burn and kill.

They say there are strangers who threaten us,
Our immigrants and infidels.
They say there is strangeness to danger us
In our theatres and bookstore shelves,
That those who know whats best for us
Must rise and save us from ourselves.

Quick to judge,
Quick to anger,
Slow to understand
Ignorance and prejudice
And fear walk hand in hand.

"Papercut"

Why does it feel like night today?
Something in here's not right today.
Why am I so uptight today?
Paranoia's all I got left
I don't know what stressed me first
Or how the pressure was fed
But I know just what it feels like
To have a voice in the back of my head
Like a face that I hold inside
A face that awakes when I close my eyes
A face watches every time I lie
A face that laughs every time I fall
(And watches everything)

So I know that when it's time to sink or swim
That the face inside is hearing me
Right beneath my skin

It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin

I know I've got a face in me
Points out all my mistakes to me
You've got a face on the inside too and
Your paranoia's probably worse
I don't know what set me off first
But I know what I can't stand
Everybody acts like the fact of the matter is
I can't add up to what you can but

Everybody has a face that they hold inside
A face that awakes when I close my eyes
A face watches every time they lie
A face that laughs every time they fall
(And watches everything)

So you know that when it's time to sink or swim
That the face inside is watching you too
Right inside your skin

[x2]
It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin

The face inside is right beneath your skin [x3]

The sun goes down
I feel the light betray me
The sun goes down
I feel the light betray me

The sun
I feel the light betray me
The sun
I feel the light betray me

It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin

It's like I'm paranoid lookin' over my back
It's like a whirlwind inside of my head
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like I can't stop what I'm hearing within
It's like the face inside is right beneath my skin

I am listening to Steve Miller Band at the moment, they had some big ones in the 70s and 80s. I love "Fly Like An Eagle" and "The Joker". Yesterday I listened to Metallica, I like their older albums from the 80s, they re-invented heavy metal then.

Traffic in the Sky - Jack Johnson

link to song

There's traffic in the sky
and it doesn't seem to be getting much better
There's kids playing games on the pavement
Drawing waves on the pavement
mm hm
Shadows of the planes on the pavement
mm hm
It's enough to make me cry
But that don't seem like it could make it feel better
Maybe it's a dream and if I scream
it will burst at the seams and
this whole place will fall into pieces
and then they'd say...

Well how could we have known?
I'll tell them it's not so hard to tell
na na na
if you keep adding stones
soon the water will be lost in the well
mm hm

Puzzle pieces in the ground
but no one ever seems to be digging
Instead they're looking up towards the heavens
with their eyes on the heavens
mm hm
the shadows on the way to the heavens
mm hm
It's enough to make me cry
but that don't seem like it would make it feel better
The answers could be found
we could learn from digging down
but no one ever seems to be digging
instead they'll say...

Well how could we have known?
I'll tell them it's not so hard to tell
na na na
if you keep adding stones
soon the water will be lost in the well
mm hmmm

Words of wisdom all around
but no one ever seems to listen
They talk about their plans on the paper
Building up from the pavement
mm hm
there're shadows from the scrapers on the pavement
mm hm
It's enough to make me sigh
but that don't seem like it would make it feel better
The words are all around
but the words are only sounds
and no one ever seems to listen
Instead they'll say...

Well how could we have known?
I'll tell them it's really not so hard to tell
na na na
If you keep adding stones
soon the water will be lost in the well
lost in the well
mm mm mm

If You Could Read My Mind - Gordon Lightfoot

This song ran through my head a day or so ago while I had been doing some thinking about fragmentation and what it may mean. It's an older song that I remember from youth, yet interesting because in listening to it this time it sounded like the universe was talking to itself and its various forms of fragmentation and lesson plans.

Of course that is my subjective take on it, he actually wrote the song about his divorce...which is a sort of fragmenting I suppose, making it not surprising that I linked what I was thinking heavily on to something I thought of and then listened to. Kind of a neat experience though a little surprising that it seems to still 'fit':

_http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x27wjh_if-you-could-read-my-mind-gordon-li_music

If you could read my mind, love,
What a tale my thoughts could tell.
Just like an old time movie,
'Bout a ghost from a wishing well.
In a castle dark or a fortress strong,
With chains upon my feet.
You know that ghost is me.
And I will never be set free
As long as I'm a ghost that you can't see.

If I could read your mind, love,
What a tale your thoughts could tell.
Just like a paperback novel,
The kind the drugstores sell.
When you reached the part where the heartaches come,
The hero would be me.
But heroes often fail,
And you won't read that book again
Because the ending's just too hard to take.

I'd walk away like a movie star
Who gets burned in a three way script.
Enter number two:
A movie queen to play the scene
Of bringing all the good things out in me.
But for now, love, let's be real;
I never thought I could act this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it.
I don't know where we went wrong,
But the feeling's gone
And I just can't get it back.

If you could read my mind, love,
What a tale my thoughts could tell.
Just like an old time movie,
'Bout a ghost from a wishing well.
In a castle dark or a fortress strong.
With chains upon my feet.
But stories always end,
And if you read between the lines,
You'd know that I'm just tryin' to understand
The feelin's that you lack.
I never thought I could feel this way
And I've got to say that I just don't get it.
I don't know where we went wrong,
But the feelin's gone
And I just can't get it back.

Crazy - Seal
link to song

In a church,by the face,
He talks about the people going under.

Only child know...

A man decides after seventy years,
That what he goes there for, is to unlock the door.
While those around him criticize and sleep...
And through a fractal on a breaking wall,
I see you my friend, and touch your face again.
Miracles will happen as we trip.

But we're never gonna survive, unless...
We get a little crazy
No we're never gonna survive, unless...
We are a little...

Crazy...crazy...crazy...

...Crazy yellow people walking through my head.
One of them's got a gun, to shoot the other one.
And yet together they were friends at school
Ohh, get it, get it, get it, get it no no!

If all were there when we first took the pill,
Then maybe, then maybe, then maybe, then maybe...
Miracles will happen as we speak.

But we're never gonna survive unless...
We get a little crazy.
No we're never gonna survive unless...
We are a little...
Crazy...
No no, never survive, unless we get a little... bit...

Oh, a little bit...
Oh, a little bit...

Oh...
Oh...

Amanda decides to go along after seventeen years...

Oh darlin...
In a sky full of people, only some want to fly,
Isn't that crazy?
In a world full of people, only some want to fly,
Isn't that crazy?
Crazy...
In a heaven of people there's only some want to fly,
Ain't that crazy?
Oh babe... Oh darlin...
In a world full of people there's only some want to fly,
Isn't that crazy?
Isn't that crazy... Isn't that crazy... Isn't that crazy...

Ohh...
But we're never gonna survive unless, we get a little crazy.. crazy..
No we're never gonna to survive unless we are a little... crazy..
But we're never gonna survive unless, we get a little crazy.. crazy..
No we're never gonna to survive unless, we are a little.. crazy..
No no, never survive unless, we get a little bit...

And then you see things
The size
Of which you've never known before

They'll break it

Someday...

Only child know....

Them things
The size
Of which you've never known before

Someday...
Someway...
Someday...
Someway...
Someday...
Someway...
Someday...

This Could Be Heaven - Seal

link to song

We should be right here
Get through all this fear
One of these days

Cuz when it comes around
We should be right here
One of these days

This could be heaven
This could be heaven

Livin' for the part
Givin' from the heart
Now and forever

But if we let it wait too long
What we have is gone
Memory only

This could be heaven
Maybe we CAN start a life today
This could be heaven
Love instead of throwin' it all away
This could be heaven

Whoever thought we would get this far
Tryin' for all these years
The thought that we would fade away
Was more than I could bear
I would do anything if you would stay
If you'd stay

Say
We should be right here
Get through all this fear
One of these days

This could be heaven
Turnin' it on for human kind
With you by my side

Say, this could be heaven
Sure we could decide to run away
But we'd run away from all this here

Well, this could be heaven
This could be heaven
This could be heaven
Cuz I know you'd call
I know you'd call
This could be heaven (3x)
One of these days
One of these days

Clear Channel - _http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YlCky0XDP80

Well if you wanna be a clear channel
Well then you ought’a be a clear channel
Can’t block the way and use the name
Can’t say you’re new and play the same lame game

Words of light flashin’
Through the night crashin’ through
And that light changin’ wrong to right lies to true

Songs of light flashin’ through the night crystal blue
And that light changing wrong to right lies to true

I think it’s time to be a clear channel
Make up your mind to be a clear channel
Let go the fear that brings the greed
Let the abundance flow into real needs

A truly chilling song about a psychopath. The Rake's Song, The Decemberists, from The Hazards of Love (lyrics tofollow).

Here's the weird thing. I saw this live last night. Really dramatic and compelling. But the audience, as usual, seems to really respond to psychopathy. When at the climax, Colin Meloy sings, "But it never really bothers me," referring to the narrator killing his own children, people in the audience were pumping their fists. Just like Grateful Dead audiences cheering when, during "Me and My Uncle" (written by John Phillips, see David McGowan's Laurel Canyon series) when the narrator recounts killing his uncle whom he loved just to take his share of stolen gold, "I love my uncle, God rest his soul, taught me good, Lord, Taught me all I know, Taught me so well, I grabbed that gold, and I left his dead ass there by the side of the road," people really cheered. Weird. In Folsom Prison, the prisoners cheered when Johnny Cash sang "I shot a man in Reno, just to watch him die..." but they are prisoners.

The Rake's Song (Colin Meloy, The Decemberists)

I had entered into a marriage
In the summer of my twenty-first year
And the bells rang for our wedding
Only now do I remember it clear
Alright, alright, alright

No more a rake and no more a bachelor
I was wedded and it whetted my thirst
Until her womb started spilling out babies
Only then did I reckon my curse
Alright, alright, alright
Alright, alright, alright

First came Isaiah with his crinkled little fingers
Then came Charlotte and that wretched girl Dawn
Ugly Myfanwy died on delivery
Mercifully taking her mother along
Alright, alright, alright

What can one do when one is widower?
Shamefully saddled with three little pests
All that I wanted was the freedom of a new life
So my burden I began to divest
Alright, alright, alright
Alright, alright, alright

Charlotte, I buried after feeding her foxglove
Dawn was easy, she was drowned in the bath
Isaiah fought but was easily bested
Burned his body for incurring my wrath
Alright, alright, alright

And that's how I became your humble narrator
To be living so easy and free
Expect you think that I should be haunted
But it never really bothers me
Alright, alright, alright
Alright, alright, alright
