What are you listening to?

Hey baz, you mentioned that you played a lot of odd time signatures. I am a fan of those too.

Genesis played a lot of strange timings that Phil Collins seemed to excel in. Here is Dance on a Volcano drum cover.

cool stuff, yeah some pretty crazy changes going there!

Is that you playing Hello H2O? Nice work!! Those electronic kits have come along way!

if you like crazy drummers, you'll probably know Virgil Donati, some serious talent there :)

Hey baz

No that is just someone I happened on, on youtube. He has a Roland kit and I have a Yamaha kit. You have to admit, they have a pretty organic sound. Most people are amazed the first time that they hear them.

That Virgil Donati clip is pretty cool. To me that is a solo based on a half time shuffle. You can hear the basic beat around the 40 sec mark. He layers triplets with 16th notes, and 32nd notes. All with a lot of flash and dash. Using both hands and feet. Very technical player. Thanks for posting.

For sure, these days they even have a nice feel to them and you can do grabs, and of course having the pressure sensitive pads definitely makes them more organic sounding. I was talking to one of the drum techs for Silverchair quite a few years ago and he said that when Silverchair played live, their drummer had pressure sensitive triggers on his real drums, weird setup but I suppose it was much easier to mix :)

Yeah Donati has some pretty amazing skills!

Yeah thanks for the great videos posted here. Casper posted one here of Tom with Prince (also Jeff plus George's son) after Prince died doing George's While My Guitar Gently Weeps. Noticed Stevie Nicks was a guest on the Learning to Fly video Marina9 posted (my screen name Blue Lamp is a Nicks song). Tom did his now last live duet with Stevie earlier this year and Tom did a fun intro for the Heartbreakers (which included the Webb sisters who have been backing vocalists for Leonard Cohen).

Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom
When the jungle shadows fall
Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock
As it stands against the wall
Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops
When the summer shower is through
So a voice within me keeps repeating you, you, you

...... :flowers: to all of you

Sometimes I feel like throwing my hands up in the air
I know I can count on you
Sometimes I feel like saying "Lord I just don't care"
But you've got the love I need
To see me through
Sometimes it seems the going is just too rough
And things go wrong no matter what I do
Now and then it seems that life is just too much
But you've got the love I need
To see me through
When food is gone you are my daily meal, oh
When friends are gone I know my savior's love is real
Your love is real
'Cause you got the love
You got the love
You got the love
You got the love
You got the love
You got the love
Time after time I think "Oh Lord what's the use?"
Time after time I think it's just no good
'Cause sooner or later in life, the things you love you loose
But you…
