What are you listening to?

Back in early eighties there was an animation serie "Il était une fois l'homme", that I liked to watch. Even then, on some level, I felt the theme music to be dramatic. Later on I found out, that it was/is classical music - by Bach.

Lately that "Toccata & Fugue In D Minor" has been like an earworm for me, so I went to Youtube to see 'popularized' versions of it, like in form of electric guitar, but nah, they mostly sound like po(o)p with drum machines and such.

Perhaps this is closer, of how it was originally intented:

Another track from the One World album by John Martyn, called Small Hours. The whole album is magical. I roll a cig, make a black tea and just meditate to this track. great to listen to the way it was recorded, about 4am as the sun prepared to rise. I like to have all nighters like that sometimes, just to take stock of things as they are. RIP John Martyn, one of the greats.

FAUN - Federkleid (Offizielles Video)

Fun and lively song. English translation of song's lyric here:

plumage

Across the heath, in the early morning glow
Birds pass on by, where may they be tomorrow
I follow the sizzling of the wings into the somber moor
Age-old songs resound from the haze

Come and fly away with us
Let the wind carry you
Far away from this place
Come and fly as high as you can
Let us chase the skies
In our dance

Silken Haze, so chilly, brushing my skin
Further and further, where shall I find my yearning's goal
I close my eyes and grow a plumage
I feel the wind already and spread my wings to fly

Come and fly away with us
Let the wind carry you
Far away from this place
Come and fly as high as you can
Let us chase the skies
In our dance

The heavens in you, how can I know them, can I see them
In flight we dance like the stars, moving on their paths

Come and fly away with us
Let the wind carry you
Far away from this place
Come and fly as high as you can
Let us chase the skies
In our dance

M.I.K.E. vs York feat. Asheni - Across The Ocean (R.I.B. with Soty & Seven24 Remix)

It was all written in the book of life
We are the universe
A fraction of stars
One day you will understand
In the blink of an eye
It won't be long

I hang on every word you say
We are the night
All I need is to be one

I hang on every word you say
We are the night
All I need is to be one

Across the ocean
Into the silver sky
Across the ocean
Into the silver sky

The following song is a call for Spring coming from the pagan tradition. The band is from Ukraine where the winters are often long and harsh, hence the meaning behind such tradition. It truly feels magical to listen to, mirroring, I feel, the awe of watching mother Nature breathe new life into plants and the wildlife after the stillness of winter.

Here is one of my favorite songs:

And here Rick Beato explains what makes this song great and how there is practically nothing in popular music today that comes even remotely close to the arrangement and musical knowhow. What is produced in popular music nowadays is IMO in large parts a total disgrace.

Here Beato explains some reasons behind the incredible degradation of music in the last decades:
