What's the weather where you are?

This summer the heat records have been broken twice, since the beginning of weather records. Funnily, this spring had the least sun hours since 100 or 200 years (can't remember). All this has been announced in the newspapers. Currently we are having a drought which has become a topic for politics, and newspapers report that prices for milk will rise 10% very soon because the cows don't give as much when the grass is as dry.

Found this impressive vidclip of a spectacular thunderstorm passing alongside the Belgian coast at Knokke-Le-Zoute on August 5 2013 around 20.30-21.00 hours.

That's a great video. I have to wonder how many cosmic events (e.g. 2013 Chelyabinsk meteor) are actually camouflaged among storms like these worldwide. According to Wikipedia "Lightning occurs approximately 40–50 times a second worldwide, resulting in nearly 1.4 billion flashes per year." (_http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lightning).

As a side note in 2006 I was woken in the night in a major city by a one-off 'lightning strike' at about 2 o'clock in the morning. My friend who lived about 5 miles away across the city was woken too and also confirmed this the next day. Apart from a cloudy sky there was no rain, there was no other lightning, and no evidence of a 'storm'. In hindsight it makes one wonder.

Two days ago a second hailstorm went over our region (This time our house just got small hail though) but in some parts not far away from here even bigger hail came down. Just look at the following video:

http://www.wetteronline.de/wetter-videos?day=07&month=08&year=2013&token=mk&cat&sort=date

Quite and extraordinary year so far for our region and germany in general , weather extreme wise...

Yes and it probably is coming to Croatia tomorrow - 3 days before forecast did foretell - now they say it's gonna be some cold front surge with hailstorms an sprouts ... but no refreshment for  Dalmatia!

40 deg C. for 3 days in a row here in Italy... I think I'm even loosing the joy of sleeping at night. It's impossible!
The weather forecasts tell of a storm coming in for tomorrow. For the first time in my life I'm welcoming a storm, "Please, come in and save me!" :cheer:

Wow! Talk about "sheets of rain". That thing looked almost alive!

:jawdrop:

Woah!

This is crazy! And the worst is that I've seen a very similar thing last summer here. I even talked about it somewhere on the forum. I had referred to this as a 'wall of clouds'.

On the other hand, temperature is overall cool here in Québec and rainy. We've had thunderstorms yesterday early in the morning and more this morning pretty much at the same time. It started raining so suddenly and strongly that I had to close my window as it was too loud and I couldn't sleep.

Anyhow, still can't believe how cold this summer is as opposed to last summer which was very hot. Summer took a long time to set in here as well.

I am in Edmonton, Alberta Canada here.

I have been in this city since 1986 and what I have noticed is that both major seasons (winter and summer) have gotten more mild i.e. winter has gotten more warm and summer has gotten less hot.

Right now we are having a lot of overcast days where we used to have a lot of 28 celcius - 32 celcius days in summer. Although have had a few 32c or even 35c days.

In winter, where 15 or more years ago we used to have weeks where it would be around -32c, now it rarely drops down to that and hovers around -20c for the most part. Winter seems to like to draw out until even May sometimes and when I used to see a more dramatic entrance from Spring, now it is more gradual.

What this all means, I do not know.

I've uploaded some of the footage of the hailstorm and the damage it caused on our house:

Is that the new normal (extremes) or what?

Pashalis, I just viewed your video footage for the first time (catching up a bit here on topics not viewed for awhile) and am aghast at the damage done...so sorry that you received so much damage and hope that home insurance coverage is helping with getting all damage repaired/restored.

Thank you for sharing the video with us. I've bookmarked your YouTube home page (together with some others like Laura's and bngenoh's...thank you for this too!:-)...

Yesterday morn it was 55 F at the low here in mid-south Tenn. A life-long local said that he can't remember a temp this low in mid-August. To me, though, it was very refreshing! :)

Portland, OR

In the past couple weeks, we had warm/hot weather
(70-90F), sometimes with overcast. Yesterday was
partial overcast with a little sprinkle of rain (60-75).
Today will probably be the same and forecasts say
to expect 75-85F for 7 days.

Today evening we've had a hailstorm for about 30 minutes and it's rained very much. There has been some small damages due to inundations in houses, some roads and businesses. Not really impressive but while I was watching the rain I couldn't stop repeating in my mind: "sheets of rain". It was a little bit scary

When I arrived in Northern Alberta I felt it immediately (from breathing, how my skin and my hair felt) that it was one of the driest places I've ever been to. This summer, is like living in coastal Vancouver. Humidity is around 80% and it's been raining almost every day! I don't remember another summer like this here.

On our recent vacation to California and Ohio it was generally cold. Very abnormal for this time of year.

The view on our flight from Ca to Phoenix and on to Columbus was obscured by clouds, the entire way. Something we've never seen before in August.

In Ohio it was abnormally cold at night, into the 50'sF right before we left. For this area, August is normally the hottest time of year. I remember being a kid there and on many occasions(in August) having a hard time sleeping at night it was so hot.

We're back in Mexico now and it's hot........nothing abnormal. Less rain though.

Dear God, It's crazy around here in Croatia!

For the past week or so it's been constantly cloudy but with no rain and extremely stuffy. Then, today around 3 am, interestingly, I woke up a couple of seconds before, there happened the strongest thunderbolt I have ever heard. I was freaking scared.

This was so sudden and volatile it was like something exploded. Definitely the most intense thunder I have ever heard. I thought it was a comet when I woke up.

All of that was followed by copious amounts of really big droplet rain that hit the ground pretty hard. It hasn't stopped since and nor have the thunders stopped.

Getting kinda weird, sometimes it rains heavily while the sun shines throw the clouds, making it look cool. Sometimes is so cold and sometimes is just too hot, sometimes rains a lot and suddenly there's no clouds.
