Winter Storm Threatens East Coast? Batten Down the Hatches

I'm in southern Maryland and we've had steady rain for the past day. We actually had our power go out Monday at around 3 a.m. I think a transformer blew because I heard a loud sound just before. It came back on about 5 hours later early this morning. I didn't have to work today, and tomorrow it's closed too.

According to media here on other side of the Atlantic, sandy is responsible for five fatalities so far.

Her Status is reduced to a ‘tropical Storm’.

I'm concerned about people in NJ and West PA and anyone close to bodies of water. The water's receding now in NYC but it set up a new all-time record...

I was thinking that the aftermath of this is going to be difficult for everyone. :( Cannot imagine what it will be like trying to get back to something even remotely resembling "normal". If this is not a wakeup call, not sure what is!

Have not heard anyone yet talking about the necessity of boiling water, but might be a good idea to remember.

My brother sent me one with several movie monsters around the Statue of Liberty...its people's way of laughing through the storm. If it gets you through, I think its harmless.

He lives in PA, we still haven't heard from my Hubby's niece, she lives in Manhattan. We're going to try her email again today, he's not sure if she left the city before the storm to go to her Dad's in Wisconsin or not.

All is well here, we did not lose power last night and no flooding in the house at all - so we must have been in a good spot for this one.

Same here. That last minute landfall shift higher on the Jersey coast is making it worse for people to the North, but has kept
Southern Maryland from the high sustain winds for which I am grateful. Those scenes of NYC are shocking--I really thought it would not be so serious there :( as there is always so much hype and drama connected with that city.

We lost power for close to eight hours, but it came back on.
It always amazing me when it does that.

It`s still raining, but not a lot of wind damage that I can see.
