Yep, it's flooding here near Brighton Beach in New York. Never seen that before. Am in Brooklyn and have the Rockaway Barrier Islands which usually block too much water. Water from the Atlantic is coming down the street and is going in the door of the apartment building next to us. Cars are submerged and still have another hour and a half before high tide. Should be interesting.

Hang in there Joe, and don't go wading, for obvious reasons. Sharks coming inland with the surge is fairly common, and most of them aren't dangerous to people...but a few breeds are.

Hang in there, Joe and keep us updated (as well as everyone else)! :hug2:

Getting much much worse here. The Bay has crossed a half mile over the Belt Parkway and into the Gerrittsen water inlet. Parts of the Belt Parkway behind my building are under six feet or so of water. Never had this kind of flooding here.

Is there any way you can get pictures from your window (without going outside)?

 Everyone who is affected by this take care!! When this storm was off the coast of FL, we were having guestimated winds of about 20mph, on the other coast...tampa bay area. My thoughts are with the entire NE.

Wind is intensifiying. We now have 55+ km/h (34+ mph) gusts from north-east and it has been growing in intensity since afternoon. Atmospheric pressure is also on the drop (100.3 kPa last news and still going down). Sky is not too covered, about half-and-half with cloud base height being at about 1,555 m (5,100 ft). Temparature is warm, about 13°C (55°F) which is around 5°C (9°F) over average.

Warnings have been given for Québec province by Environment Canada. They say what we are currently experiencing are the first signs of Sandy's approach. We expect gusts up to 100 km/h (60 mph) and quite a bit of rain up to until Wednesday.

Will keep you updated. Take care of yourselves, my friends who are on "it's" path! I love you all! :hug2:

Peace.

Let me see if I can download some pictures. Have to transfer them first. The water is now up to our front door. And the Belt Parkway behind the building is now more of a river.

Not too bad in and around the Philadelphia area so far. There hasn't been much rain and it's pretty much stopped (at least in my area) but the winds will be picking up in a couple hours with wind gusts to about 70 mph and then gradually subsiding thru the night into tomorrow morning. There have been some local power outages but nothing major at this point.

Here's some images. Of course my neighbor didn't clear her balcony off and all her heavy planters and garbage blew through the slight retaining wall separating her area from mine. Guess she didn't hear a hurricane was coming. :P
