The above quote is from Wikipedia but I remember reading an article by Laura regarding the number nine which according to Laura had very negative connotations. Can't seem to find that article though.Wikipedia said:The number 9 is revered in Hinduism and considered a complete, perfected and divine number because it represents the end of a cycle in the decimal system, which originated from the Indian subcontinent as early as 3000 BC.
Britannica said:In contrast to 8, the number 9 often represents pain or sadness. The 16th-century Catholic theologian Peter Bungus pointed out that the Ninth Psalm predicts the coming of the Antichrist. In Islamic cosmology the universe is made from nine spheres—the traditional eight of Ptolemy, plus a ninth added by the Arab astronomer Thābit ibn Qurra about ad 900 to explain the precession of the equinoxes.
In Anglo-Saxon cultures 9 crops up frequently. The early inhabitants of Wales used nine steps to measure distance in legal contexts; for example, a dog that has bitten someone can be killed if it is nine steps away from its owner’s house, and nine people assaulting one constituted a genuine attack. In German law the ownership of land terminated after the ninth generation. Many folk sayings involve the number 9. A stitch in time saves nine. Cloud nine is the ultimate in happiness. A cat has nine lives. In Greek mythology the River Styx, across which souls were ferried to the underworld, is described as having nine twists.[/url]

there are 18 rays, 1+8=9
2 circles in each val, 36 total, 3+6=9
4 circles at each crest, 72 total, 7+2=9

interesting!

there's also the fact that every number above nine "adds down" to nine and never goes below it. 10, 1+0=1, 10-1=9 --- 11, 1+1=2, 11-2=9, and so on... kind of like it's the last place a number could go, ergo, "the number of sickness, endings, decay and destruction and death." fwiw...
The structure and triadic divisions within the zodiac are imo quite right but a great deal of detail has been lost. This absence of two levels of refinement partialy explain the difficulties of accurately predicting type evident in astrology today.
The embroidering of the system with imagination and invention sufficiently clouds what remains so that it has little value today.imo
The fundamental divisions it does retain 2/4/12 however are sufficient to draw direct analogies with our own functional divisions which like our consciousness/thoughts and feeling can only be proved as subjective facts.....though the mechanics of these divisions was, gloriously, and uniquely (in modern times) described by gurdjieff through P.D.Ouspenskys work.
The further divisions of the zodiac template of type and many other things besides also has counterparts in chinese astrology, from a cursory examination this much is clear
the further divisions are into 36...then into 72 parts. these lost divisions are retained however in jewish mysticism again....the kaballah, chinese astrology, and many myths like the osiris story, the beneficient and maleficient stars of chines astrology and the philosophical systems of India and relate to time and dimension music and many other things besides.
These 72 divisions are both a precise reflection imo of our repertoire of functional divisions and type and all of these were detailed quite exactly in the apocryphal judas, when christ supposedly shared this template with Judas as recompense for Judas's name and reputation being slurred and despised for all time.
gripping reading under the chapter "adamas and the luminaries" What attracts me to this path is the immense practical value of this template in reference to understanding type...esp my own type....and the functional repertoire of people in general.

Cannings Cross Farm, nr All Cannings, Wiltshire - Wheat
10th July 2009
At first glance this crop circle looks fine, intact.
It doesn't take much imagination, however, to see that the centre part would have looked like an open book (seen from above) with its pages fanned out 360 degrees.

Hello everyone,
The crop circle season is continuing barely unabated. As we reach mid July the weather here in the UK has taken a turn for the worse with cloud wind and rain taking hold for the next couple of days.
As a result of the weather, yesterday Steve took an early morning flight to try and get some moving film of several formations. The last time he flew he was only able to get still imagery before the weather closed in and the sun disappeared.
Returning to the Honey street circle (reported last time) and them moving on towards Silbury Hill, he spotted a new circle at Cannings Cross farm, near All Cannings.
The formation looked like a Butterfly-type design (a butterfly in standing crop, surrounded by a sun (in flattened crop).
Later in the day we heard that the farmer had partially cut the circle out. And, as sad as that was, we were secure in knowing that we had recorded the circle before the damage had been done.
However, it soon became apparent the this was not he case and in fact we had not flown the circle before the farmer had inflicted his damage.
It had not been readily apparent that there was any damage from the air. But after blowing up the imagery we could clearly see where the farmer has literally run rings around it with his machinery.
The original design looks like it might have been a three-dimensional design in the centre - now sadly gone.
All this said, it is slightly strange that even though the farmer had decided to spoil this design for everyone, the formation still appears attractive and even meaningful! That it now resembles a butterfly, symbolic of transformation - seems like a jest on behalf of the cosmic joker, on a farmer who sought to despoil.
