Belgrade: 13-year-old shoots dead eight classmates and a security guard

Any advice how to talk with 12y old kid in this situation? My daughter was on sport camp outside of country. Returning tomorrow, scared and nervous. They read all this in last couple of days and her friend died in school shooting... Im trying to calm her down but not sure what is the right approach. They going back to school on Monday and I need to speak with her over the weekend.

This situation as any other pathological situation; I tell my kids (10 and 13) that there are different people in this world. They are bad people and best thing is when you notice that a boy/girl is bad - just get away from those people. I also tell them that not all people are bad, of course, but I don’t lie to them.

This (very short) video from Peterson comes to my mind:

In this case, yes, it is a terrible tragedy that left children afraid to go to school. I would go with the above and that this kid was one of those 6% in the world and that it is an extremely low chanse of that kind of things happening.

Also suggest kids to enter some self-defense classes or martial art course so they feel empowered.

Good luck! :hug2:

Yes there was a huge tension lets not forget the owerall intorelance on street in last period, people are walking around like time bombs....
Only in Belgrade. Thats why I, more or less, dont live there anymore. I'm in a smaller town when people are tottaly different than Belgrade. You can go out on the street and talk with total stranger like you know each other for years.

I just overheard two neigbours on the road above my yard. Both in their sixties, and it was something like this: "did you heard that they will go from house to house and take guns from people? Why? We didnt kill anybody. What that got to do with us. I'm nou giving mine, I would rather go to prison". ("They" are always authorities and government).

I agree. It's important to explain this madness to your daughter in words that she understands/is able to cope with. Remain available for her if she wishes to talk to you and/or she could write down her thoughts or draw? Your daughter will need to process this. Perhaps keep her at home for a few days, if she is really upset? That said, she may need her peers as well.

I watched the following video a few days ago and think that it could be helpful for you to understand what can happen to your and your daughter's nervous system when dealing with these horrific events. Mel Robbins also gives a few suggestions as to how to calm down the nervous system in case you need it. Good-luck!

From the first session with the C's (16 July 1994):
Q: (L) How can we protect ourselves and our children?
A: Inform them. Don't hide the truth from children.
Q: (L) How does truth protect us?
A: Awareness protects. Ignorance endangers.
Q: (L) Why tell children such horrible things?
A: Need to know.
Q: I don't know how knowing this helps. This is awful. Why tell children such things?
A: Must know - ease pain with meditation.
If you notice that she receptive and seeking deeper answers (such as "why is this even happening?"), you could use this opportunity to give a contextual overview of the world we live in. For example, you could start telling her that there are different forces at play (some light, some dark, some in-between). These forces have different perceptions of the world and, as a result, some outcomes can be quite violent. From an individual point of view, things may seem terrible and bring forth a great amount of fear, but it is important not to neglect the bigger picture, which is about balance. Turmoil is part of the balancing process.

And then you follow up with some deep breathing exercises. 😉

Thank you all for usefull advices. Knowing all what we here knows, I did not even know where to start and what to filter, risking to overwhelm her with some things that maybe are not yet ready to be heard . She is aware of my views but I guess there was no need for her to "adapt" it. This is oportunity to put theory in practice, for both me and her.

I use Star Wars analogy 😅
It works! 🤷🏻‍♀️

I had weird dreams lately too, like killing people with knife . Aside from that my energy is so low and I'm fighting every day to stay focus and do something constructive but could be because of spring.
Yeah. I didn't sleep well one night prior to this horrible event to. I have very weird feelings of some dark energy influenced my thinking. It was not pleasant. I start immediately to focus my thoughts to Laura and repeat Prayer of the Soul in my mind. I couldn't speak the words loud because my wife was sleeping but it helped. I don't know if this is related to events wich followed because I live far away in Australia on the peaceful farm with the animals but...who knows.
Anyway it was really weird...

This article was posted on RTS and then deleted. There were actually several mass shootings in the 21st century in Serbia, but never two in a row, and never by a child.

Chronology of mass murders in Serbia in the 21st century

BELGRADE - In just two days, two mass murders took place in Belgrade, and in the past two decades, five mass murders have been recorded in Serbia.

Allegedly damaged family relations were the motive for Dragan Čedić to kill his ex-wife and six other people in Leskovac in 2002.

Everything happened in less than half an hour, and on that occasion Čedić wounded four more people. After the crime, the killer disappeared.

His lifeless body was found 40 days later in the atar of a Leskovac village.

Five years later, in July 2007, Jabukovac near Negotin was added to the map of mass crimes. Nikola Radosavljević killed nine and wounded two people with a hunting rifle. Among the victims was a fifteen-year-old child.

Radisavljević was arrested at the cemetery after the crime. An expert examination established that he had psychological problems, for which he was referred for treatment.

The murder of 13 residents of the village of Velika Ivanča near Mladenovac is the most massive crime recorded in Serbia. In April 2013, Ljubiša Bogdanavić killed 12 adults and a two-year-old child.

He killed people while they were sleeping, and some, as it was said at the time, opened the door for him without expecting to shoot at them. When he saw the police, Bogdanović shot himself. He died a few days later.

In May 2015, the day after the wedding, the groom's father, Rade Šefer, killed six people. First, he killed his wife's parents in the village of Orom near Kanjiža. Then he went to Martonoš and shot at people who were still sleeping. He killed his wife, daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law's mother and father.

In the end, Schaefer himself lost his life. The media reported at the time that he was killed by one of the guests whose wife Šefer wounded during the shooting.

In July 2016, another mass murder took place. Siniša Zlatić killed his wife and four other people in a cafe in Žitište. 21 people were wounded in the shooting. Zlatić was arrested and sentenced to 40 years in prison.

And yesterday there was a mass shooting in Texas.

Interesting - didn't take long for massive protests to begin, according to France24:

Makes me think there has been some sort of push in Serbia to remove weapons for some time, as if the recent shootings were the emotional trigger required for people to call for the banning of guns themselves, prior to any government decision.

Crowds in numbers not seen in the Balkan country for years solemnly marched through the centre of the capital Belgrade behind a banner reading "Serbia Against Violence".
Protesters and opposition supporters demanded a shutdown of TV stations and tabloids that they accuse of promoting violent and vulgar content.

Opposition parties and some rights groups accuse President Aleksandar Vucic and his ruling populist Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) of autocracy, oppressing media freedoms, violence against political opponents, corruption and ties with organised crime. Vucic and his allies deny the accusations.

Vucic said protesters on Monday were trying to force him to step down and destabilise the country. He said he was ready to test his party's popularity in a snap vote, but did not specify the date.
In response to the shootings, Serbia's police on Monday started a one-month amnesty for surrendering illegal weapons. It said over 1,500 were handed over on the first day.

Vucic announced police checks of registered gun owners.

Serbia has a deeply entrenched gun culture, and along with the rest of the Western Balkans is awash with military-grade weapons and ordnance in private hands after the wars of the 1990s that tore apart the former Yugoslavia.

Those are staged protest. There were real ones by the real oposition, and more massive, but controled news dont show it.

This is already boomeranged to the Vucic's and government face. They are so agressive in this: "you people bad, guns no no, children bad, we bad nation", generally insulting the inteligence, that even the most passive types are starting to be revolted. They have the opposite effect of what they wanted. Vucic thinks that he can control everything with the help of media and lies (BTW, Milosevic thought that too), but he cant. Things in Serbia (and far and wide south east Europe) are settled on the markets and streets, not on abstract TV space.

Vucic is on sort of probation power in the eyes of people, since the corona days. There were some pluses regarding NATO and Russia, but seems that he didnt understand that he doesnt have anything else besides that. In reality, the people are very fed up of him and his whole aparatus.

There are rumours already circulating that this was some inside job. Even on some TVs with national frequency. There are more and more inconsistency in the official story. And that feeling is enhanced by the exagerated and agressive media which insults the people inteligence.

Like clockwork, the West is proud to advertise its newest "victory"... from the same angle!

Interesting observations:
  • About the number of weapons, the numerology is not very appealing: 13500 = 1 + 3 + 5 + 0 + 0 = 9, same as the mark of the beast (666 = 6 + 6 + 6 = 18; 1 + 8 = 9). Numerology is discussed in the article Darkness of Tibet (Part 2).
  • 13-year-old boy, 13 thousand guns collected, 13 as in the Antichrist?
  • Multi-level signature? One for the wary, one for the unwary?
