A man in Kerala, too many pegs down, saw a road instead of railway tracks and drove over them. He drove his car for about 15 metres on the tracks before it came to a halt.
Kerala Police arrested 49-year-old Jayaprakashan from Ancharakandi in Kannur for driving his car on railway tracks. A video of the incident has also surfaced now.
The bizarre incident took place on July 18.
Police recorded his statement on July 19 and seized his car before letting him off on bail. He was charged under Section 185 of the Motor Vehicle Act, 1988, and Sections of the Railway Act.
"He was drunk. It seems like he mistook the tracks for a byroad and drove onto it," police said.
A railway gatekeeper and some locals spotted the car stuck on the tracks and informed police. They also saved the day, by pushing the vehicle away from the tracks to avert a potential railway disaster.
Police said the incident took place around 11.30 pm near the Thazhe Chovva railway gate within the city limits. Though Jayaprakash was released on bail, his car was seized. It will be produced in court.
