Bladder Cancer

Latest update... last week I had to go in for a blood test, and it showed that my creatinine levels were high. Apparently that means that my kidney function is lower then it should be. My Doctor scheduled me for an ultrasound, which I went and had yesterday. It did show that my urine is backing up in my kidneys. I only have one working kidney, the other one was damaged by the cancer tumor that I had in my bladder. The doctor made me what is called an Indiana Reservoir out of my large and small intestines that act like a bladder, I manually have to empty by putting a catheter through a hole in my stomach and let the urine drain out. Its not too bad to do. My doctor thinks that maybe it is getting too full, and the pressure is backing it up in to my kidneys. So for the next week, I am having to leave the catheter in so it drains constantly in to a leg bag, and next Tuesday I have my blood taken again. Hopefully my creatinine levels will be lower.
If they aren't lower, I will have to have further tests to determine if I have a blockage or what is going on. As far as I know, no cancer has returned, and this is just a bump in the road. I am keeping positive, I am sticking with eating right and taking care of myself. I did feel a little sorry for myself yesterday, but I am over that now and happy that I am still doing really well. I will keep updating this thread as things progress. I really like having the network to share this with. Thanks everyone :)

Hi Angela,

Thanks for the update. I know it can feel like a setback and it's perfectly natural to worry about it. You are doing everything you can but I am certain, regardless of the outcome, that you will do whatever needs to be done and meet things head on with courage and faith.

I guess the bumps in the road make the smooth parts all the more enjoyable. Good to hear there are no signs of cancer.

Keep the faith and know that you are well loved. I'll keep you in my prayers,
Gonzo

Thanks for the update, Angela. Hang in there, and when you get some more info, you can also look into some things to improve kidney function. Networking, as you know, will help you cope with whatever comes to light. :)

Thank you for your update, Angela. Sounds like you're already doing what needs to be done in order to normalize the levels. Try to stay positive and keep us posted! :)

Thanks everyone. It helps me a lot to know I have this kind of support through this forum. I appreciate all of you :) I will update next week when I get my results back from my next blood draw.

Hey Angela I just want to say that I'm with you too.
be strong and keep us informed

Hi Angela:

I found and read everything on this thread today. You really have a lot of heart and courage and even with all that you are going through, you find the to thank everyone who responded to you.

I'm very inspired by the way you've approached and traveled on this journey - how optimistic you are, how open you are to exploring all possibilities both physical and emotional.

I've learned a lot of really important medical information, but the impression that is the most powerful for me is that even though we've never met, I feel that, through your posts, I've gotten to know you and in the model you present of facing adversity with such grace, you've inspired me to strive for it myself.

All the best to you.

Hi Angela,
